Lots of footage & angles from bus terminal where #Magnotta travels from Paris to Berlin on Thursday, May 31.He is caught there June 4.

amy minsky ‏@amyminsky · 1m1 minute ago
As it's 4:30 p.m., Justice Cournoyer calls it a day and wishes the jury a good night. #Magnotta

I think that's what Leclair is counting on the jury feeling about watching these tapes.

MOO
you are probably right. i just hope the jury members see the psychopath behind this behaviour.

Will we hear something from LM himself too? or did he choose to let his lawyer speak for him?

He's certainly an attention seeker so I'm hoping he'll decide to testify. Should be interesting although we'll never get a chance to see it if he does unless we are in that courtroom. :(

So I wonder if LE looked at other video of LM in and around his building to see if he was constantly changing clothes and looks just because he likes to. Or if this was just a one time thing while he was disposing of evidence after having murdered someone in his apt. If he didn't usually do this, that would be another thing to show that he was completely cognizant of what he had done and that he had to hide evidence and deflect possible CCTV footage and witnesses. I'll bet even he didn't think the CCTV in that building was as good as it was. Most of the time we're asked to look at grainy footage where details can not be made out other than clothing, hair colour, hats etc.

At this link there are some of the surveillance videos, Jun Lin and LM walking into the building, LM entering after the murder (and checking his hair in the mirror, couldnt believe that when I read it, but its true... ugh) and also one of him throwing away something in the basement.
http://globalnews.ca/news/1600251/magnotta-brought-home-mystery-man-a-week-before-murder-court-hears/

He looks so calm, its almost creepy. He just killed someone in the most horrific way and still is so concerned about his hair. Unbelievable. This guy is so sick, I got goosebumps watching this :gaah:
He checks out his own 🤬🤬🤬 as he's walking away, too!

  • #426
I wonder what his defense is going to be?? I would expect a paranoid schizophrenic in the middle of a psychotic episode to look less calm - he doesn't look like he's being tormented by voices in his head telling him to kill, does he!
I seem to remember one case where a man pleaded not guilty to murdering his child because he was psychotic and thought that the government had replaced the child with a dummy, so in his mind it wasn't murder, and the court agreed. I wonder if LM will claim something like that? He might say that he thought he was on a reality TV show so none of it was real!

I just read up on the guy, Jeremiah Wright, who thought his kid was a dummy. He threatened to kill the child when he was just a baby, because he had disabilities and he wanted to stop his suffering. Finally when the boy was 8 years old he was tired of looking after him, so he cut his head off and left it in the road for the child's mother to see. He dismembered the body and left it in trash bags by the bins. He told police that when he cut up the boy he was full of foam, with a plastic skull. Even when medicated, he continued to hold this fixed delusion that the child was not real.
http://m.tri-parishtimes.com/mobile/news/lafourche/article_da7ee080-95c5-11e3-ae7e-0019bb2963f4.html

So even though LM clearly premeditated the murder, it's still possible that he could be found not guilty. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia years ago, so it will be interesting to hear what his doctors said his symptoms were when he was diagnosed, and since then. I know people are saying he must be a psychopath due to his demeanour, but one of the symptoms of schizophrenia is flattened affect (lack of emotion).

Also, according to wikipedia, in paranoid schizophrenia "Another frequent type of delusion is a delusion of grandeur, or the “fixed, false belief that one possesses superior qualities such as genius, fame, omnipotence, or wealth."[7] Common ones include, “the belief that you can fly, that you're famous, or that you have a relationship with a famous person"

I'm not convinced there is a chemical diagnosis for him....but I am also open to there could be, since some severely mentally ill ones have killed. But his actions really really seem to speak more towards Axis II behaviors...in my unprofessional minute opinion. NPD, Borderline, sociopathy, psychopathy....IMO he reeks of all this. I work with many who have schizo effective or schizophrenia and he seems way too self aware. Way too in touch with reality. I could be wrong and I don't claim to know it all but his behavior just does totally convince me...at least not yet. To be fair i have not worked very often with ones on his level of sickness....whatever it is...either. I have seen, though, in cases like these often people look for mental illness instead of wanting to accept that yes, some people are sane and truly evil.

I'll be back at the #Magnotta trial today. Hopefully we will be spared more tiresome surveillance footage and move on to next witness

suemontgomery @MontgomerySue · 51m 51 minutes ago

There's a delay in the start of #Magnotta trial. Could be 10 am

suemontgomery @MontgomerySue · 20m 20 minutes ago

#Magnotta's jury is here

suemontgomery @MontgomerySue · 17m 17 minutes ago

More surveillance footage. Please send caffeine #Magnotta

suemontgomery @MontgomerySue · 15m 15 minutes ago

It's 6:37 p.m. and #Magnotta is seen in footage. Not sure if it's Berlin or Paris

suemontgomery @MontgomerySue · 10m 10 minutes ago

Now we're looking at a bunch of buses in a bus depot. Obviously, #Magnotta got on one of them and headed to Berlin

suemontgomery @MontgomerySue · 6m 6 minutes ago

Mercifully, there are technical difficulties so we can't watch any more surveillance video #Magnotta

  • #433
To my knowledge, this is still Leclair cross examining Det Hamel? Obviously LE had no intention of playing all these surveillance videos. I think they just entered still pics from the videos as evidence?

#Magnotta jury about to be shown contents of killer's suitcase seized from Paris hotel room after arrest June 4, 2012

amy minsky ‏@amyminsky · 2m2 minutes ago
Leclair going through items found in #Magnotta's Paris hotel room, including a piece of paper with French and English written on both sides.

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 1m1 minute ago
Now going through items that were found in #Magnotta's suitcase seized in Europe

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 1m1 minute ago
27 May, 2012. A bill from the Paris hotel for 450 Euros #Magnotta

Michele Mandel ‏@MandelSun · 1m1 minute ago
Also #Magnotta was practising his French - paper found with conjugation of French verbs

Steven Chmielash ‏@s_chmielash · 2m2 minutes ago
Since the defence lawyer, Leclair, keeps moving around the room and at times its hard to hear him, he's just been mic'ed up #Magnotta

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 20s20 seconds ago
Next items are a hair brush and mascara. It's still Sgt-Det Claudette Hamlin being cross examined by Leclair #magnotta

Michele Mandel ‏@MandelSun · 2m2 minutes ago
All items are coming from #Magnotta's small, dark carry-on bag seized by French police

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 1m1 minute ago
Defence lawyer Luc Leclair rifling through the suitcase, pulling out items of clothing. We see striped tank top like 1 #Magnotta wore

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 3m3 minutes ago
Judge telling Leclair he can just file a list of things that were found in suitcase. No need to go through everything #Magnotta

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 3m3 minutes ago
Leclair agrees to file a list. We're now off to Internet cafe in Berlin and will see yet more surveillance footage #magnotta

  • #435
I'm starting to get the impression that Leclair is either in way over his head in this trial or he's purposely trying to look like a bumbling attorney who is in over his head. LOL

It's June 4, 2012 at 11:36 a.m. We see the inside of Internet cafe; man behind counter and woman at counter #magnotta

amy minsky ‏@amyminsky · 3m3 minutes ago
Tape begins at 11:36 a.m. Shows store counter and we can see a bit of the street outside through the front window, #Magnotta

amy minsky ‏@amyminsky · 3m3 minutes ago
#Magnotta is not at the Internet cafe yet, though, it seems.

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 28s29 seconds ago
People coming and going in Internet cafe but still no sign of #Magnotta

Michele Mandel ‏@MandelSun · 2m2 minutes ago
Yet we can't see #Magnotta. Judge suggests def lawyer fast forward tape. What a concept! But he prefers to play it through

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 2m2 minutes ago
Judge: Mr Leclair, it wouldn't be inappropriate for you to suggest a time and go directly to that time (on the video) #Magnotta

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 2m2 minutes ago
"I prefer to just play it through," Leclair replies. #Magnotta

amy minsky ‏@amyminsky · 1m1 minute ago
But alas, Mr. Leclair says he would rather go through entire tape. I'd say we're about 1/6 through. Started at 11:36, now 11:42 #Magnotta

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 1m1 minute ago
Like watching snow melt #Magnotta

  • #437
Paid by the hour? Bumbling attorney? Can't figure out why Leclair is doing this.

Michele Mandel ‏@MandelSun · 3m3 minutes ago
instead it seems def. lawyer determined to bore #Magnotta jury to death watching endless surv. video with no sign of his client

Steven Chmielash ‏@s_chmielash · 3m3 minutes ago
Judge suggested this because we're around 10 mins into footage and still haven't seen #Magnotta in the Cafe yet. Footage is long too.

suemontgomery ‏@MontgomerySue · 2m2 minutes ago
Jury not exactly on the edge of their seats. Waiting and watching #Magnotta

amy minsky ‏@amyminsky · 28s29 seconds ago
The tape freezes. We still haven't seen #Magnotta in the Internet cafe. Justice Cournoyer decides to take the morning break. #Magnotta

Michele Mandel ‏@MandelSun · 40s41 seconds ago
morning break at #Magnotta trial to deal with tech. difficulties. sigh.

That poor jury. Does Leclair not realize that they are taking time out of their regular lives to serve on this jury? It's not a job for them. They don't get paid by the hour. They don't want to be doing this for months. This can't be going over well with any of them. It's like he's setting up some mini murder mystery in that courtroom. He likely knows the answers to the questions that LE couldn't determine and he's fumbling around with every piece of evidence to do what? Enhance the drama? Waiting for his turn to start throwing out his "Perry Mason moments?".

We've seen enough drama with his client. :gaah:

We're breaking till 11:10 #Magnotta

Apparently not. :( If they can't get that tape fixed, then what? How long will this delay be? Remember, Leclair is just showing all this stuff to get it into evidence. He'll be dragging it all back out when it's his turn to bat. SMH
