I'm wondering why different news sources are referring to the victim as Jun Lin and others as Lin Jun. I myself have been referring to him as Lin Jun. Considering his father's name is Diran Lin, I guess I can assume I've been mistaken and that his name is Jun Lin?

With Chinese names, the surname goes before the first name. (I imagine there was some confusion in the media over this fact, which would explain the discrepancies.) So Jun Lin and Lin Jun are both correct, but if you're referring to him in English, Jun Lin makes more sense IMO.

With Chinese names, the surname goes before the first name. (I imagine there was some confusion in the media over this fact, which would explain the discrepancies.) So Jun Lin and Lin Jun are both correct, but if you're referring to him in English, Jun Lin makes more sense IMO.
