I'm having to use my phone as this site is so slow on laptop, so forgive me any typos!

I have just read that Boeing have lost five 777s in total, three were at airports and there was the one shot down over the ukraine. If that's true (read in latest DM report and can't link at the mo) then this piece HAS to be from MH370!!

Yup. Heard that on CNN too just now.

MH370: possible search breakthrough as debris found on Réunion Island – rolling updates

Could the debris have drifted that far west?
Oceanographers have created a remarkable current simulator showing how debris or plastics can drift across the ocean over months and years.
I’ve placed the rubber duck very roughly near the zone west of Perth where investigators believe the plane might have hit water. As you’ll see, it travels directly west towards Reunion. Hardly conclusive, but it does suggest that in theory the debris of MH370 could have drifted that far.

The only other possibility for a piece like this as far as I can see is Yemenia Flight 626. However that was 6 years ago and this doesn't look like something that has been in the water for that long.

Has to be MH370. All the Boeing sources are saying this is unique to the 777.

What I'm wondering is who will make the official announcement? Malaysia? Australia? France?

This discovery must be very distressing for the families while they face an anxious wait for confirmation.

"For the wife of an MH370 victim, news that what is thought to be debris from a Boeing 777 has washed up on an Indian Ocean beach is a double-edged sword.
If the two-metre long piece of wreckage found on the island of La Reunion was confirmed to be from the missing jet, it would likely extinguish hope Danica Weeks's missing husband, Paul, survived.

But the long mystery that has plagued Ms Weeks - who lives in Perth with the couple's two young children - could finally start to be solved. And their family could begin the grieving process.

'It's a double-edged sword really. On one side you still have minute hope they may be coming home which you hold onto with no evidence,' Ms Weeks said in an interview."

Malaysian Airlines and/or their government initially I would have thought since Australia didn't find this debris with their investigations. Maybe Australia will provide an follow up update with what it means for the search. I may be wrong.

That was an Airbus A310-324,
from the photos sources believe this piece is from a Boeing 777

Yes, I'm aware of that. It does appear so far to belong to a 777.

One of the experts from CNN mentioned that this part wouldn't be painted the way it's though. :dunno:

Statement from Malaysia Airlines re: discovery.

(CNN) -- Malaysia Airlines has released a statement on the discovery of debris that a source says appears to be part of a Boeing 777: "With regards to the reports of the discovery of an aircraft flaperon at Reunion Island, Malaysia Airlines is working with the relevant authorities to confirm the matter. At the moment, it would be too premature for the airline to speculate on the origin of the flaperon."

This breaking news on the same day Russia vetoed the prosecution of the suspected downing of MH17? OK back with tin foil hat. :)
