Weekly update - Dec 7 2016

Furgo Equator is returning to Fremantle for supplies.
Dong Hai Jiu 101 has completed its assignment and is also returning to Fremantle to dismantle the ROV before returning to Shanghai. Apparently they never found anything.
Since neither vehicle will be in the search area, any weather this week won't matter.

There is an explanation in the update which explains the different search vehicles and what their function entailed. These three search methods included the deep towing operations, the AUV and the ROV. According to this, it looks like the complete area has already been searched and the AUV and the ROV are just doing closer examinations of areas of possible interest.

Deep tow operations of the search area were completed in October 2016. Since that time AUV and ROV operations have been used to undertake detailed examination of sonar contacts and points of interest, and examine areas not able to be covered by deep tow operations.

MH370 families urge residents of African coast to join debris search.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-malaysia-airlines-mh-idUSKBN13U1SS

Relatives of MH370 passengers have found a new piece of debris on Riake Beach, Isle St Marie, which according to the map is on Nosy Boraha island, which is off the eastern coast of Madagasgar.
If I remember correctly, another piece was found earlier on that same island.

I just googled because I remembered setting my DVR. It's tomorrow night, my DVR is set to record it

Season 3, Episode 5 Did We Find Flight 370?
Airs in 1 days 12 hours 42 min Tuesday, Dec 13, 9:01pm SCI

Blaine Gibson was leading the group of relatives that found the debris on Riake Beach.
He has now found more debris himself, including a piece of possible cabin interior shown in a picture.

I'm glad Blaine has taken it upon himself to search. It really blows me away that nothing was found in the search area, yet here they may be finding pieces of the inside. Does this mean the plane is decomposing under the water?

It absolutely amazes me that Blaine Gibson has found more debris combing the shores of these islands than the searchers outfitted with millions of dollars of equipment have found.
At this rate, it would be cheaper for them to station people at the shorelines around-the-clock collecting debris than it would be for them to continue what they are doing.

I really feel for these families waiting for the wreckage to be located, when chances are, they are searching in the wrong place and they may never find it!

Why don't they use their high-tech machinery to work in reverse from where things are washing up? They may have better luck that way.

Sorry for the rant, I just get so frustrated knowing that a civilian is having more success finding stuff than the experts!

Oh thanks! I thought it was last week.
I went and set my DVR as soon as I read your message.

I could have sworn I only went a few days on the DVR to search. Just glad I didn't miss it

We all share your frustration.
I'm pretty sure they are putting pieces of an airplane into the water to see where they would end up. I still think that they also need to go back to the Flight 370 Tomnod images to review what was seen and where. I do not doubt that they did catch pieces of the plane that had sunk by the time they got there.

You might want to check again.
I didn't think I had it either but I did find it when I searched on the channel list on my cable company's website. I think it must have replaced another channel that I never looked at. I have a lot of channels that I don't look at.

Weekly update - Dec 14 2016

The Fugro Equater arrived in Fremantle Monday, loaded supplies again and departed the same day for the search area. This is the only ship remaining in the search.
They expect this to be the final trip into the search area and then their assignment will be completed.

Just finished watching the flight 370 science channel episode; very disappointed. Its about one satelite image from China after the plane went missing. They 1st thought it was part of a wing but now think it may have been a huge discarded fishing net that may have had large fish trapped in it. Its not really worth watching.

Shoes, handbags, wallets, hats and an all important brown slipper.

They're just some of the 20 items believed to have come from missing flight MH370 laid out on the kitchen table of Sheryl Keen's home in Perth, Western Australia.

Mrs Keen, 52, has been working with MH370 amateur investigator Blaine Gibson to find any clues that may lead the the discovery of the Malaysian Airlines flight that disappeared in March 2014.

Weekly update - Dec 21 2016

While search operations will continue uninterrupted over the Christmas/New Year period, there will be no MH370 Operational Search Update until Wednesday, 4 January 2017.

The Fugro Equator arrived in the search area on Monday and will continue using the AUV to search the assigned area. Heavy swells may affect the operation.

The ASTB has also released two new reports - their final report of the First Principles Review meeting in November and one from CSIRO on the supporting search and drift study. A lot of work has been put into producing these two reports.
