Have there been any incidents involving the B777 recently? Wondering what possible malfunction could have occurred that may have previously been identified.

As far as I know the only one that's crashed is the one in SF. Last I heard they were leaning towards equipment failure.

I believe that if a plane doesn't come into and out of the US they aren't required to meet FAA regulations and a lot of carriers take great liberty with the rules that do apply to them.

I agree Steely... I think they dropped like a rock.
I think if the pilots had been able to try an emergency landing, they also would have called it in. :twocents:

I agree with you. Zero communication from them. Whatever happened, it happened very fast.

Terrible :(

Signal of missing Malaysia Airlines plane has been detected at some 120 nautical miles southwest of Vietnam's southernmost Ca Mau province.

So that almost has to be water... and is WAY off track.
This map is the airport... and then the Ca Mau province.
So 120 nautical miles (138 regular miles) south west of there.

Looks like the Gulf to me... but directions and geography are not my strong point...

#BREAKING: China's state media says Vietnamese authorities have detected signals from the missing #Malaysia Airlines plane.

This was just added;

Vietnamese authorities now say the reports a signal had been detected were false. “We have been seeking but no signal from the plane yet,” Pham Hien, director of a Vietnam maritime search and rescue co-ordination centre in Vung Tau, told Reuters. “The information on local media about the signal near the Cape Ca Mau was inaccurate,” Pham said.

SFO was pilot error, he came in too low and hit the sea wall.

And we thought the information issues in Holly Bobo's case were bad! :banghead: :overreaction:

And I just read that the only two people killed in the SF crash were Chinese nationals. Sad.

This is probably wrong as well but it gives a time:

#MalaysiaAirlines plane “signal” found at 9.50am, location was over the sea, according to Vietnamese media http://bit.ly/1kDxDE6

Some are still reporting signals:

"@AJELive: [UPDATE] Vietnam detects signals from missing Malaysia Airlines plane, AP reports. More soon."

I stand corrected. I just double checked myself and I was wrong. :waitasec: I coulda sworn I'd heard that. :dunno:

This story is just crazy... no one knows what is true or not.. Media is just wildly reporting.
