I think this shows how differently other countries handle incidents like this. I guess someone could have taken a picture of the manifest in the airport, but that seems horrible to publish it with all the names so soon after the crash. And having relatives fly to the area. I certainly wouldn't want to be taken to the crash site.

I don't think I would want to go to the crash site either. Can't be sure how I would respond if it was my loved one though. I guess it's good if people have the option to go. I can only think it's for identification purposes but that hardly seems necessary with modern technology. Sure hope they have counsellors on hand. Then again, it could be another piece of misreporting amidst all the confusion.

I find it hard to believe there is anything to identify, even if they DID find the plane. :twocents:

My brain hurts... but I think I got this figured out now. :scared:

So it "eerily stops" when the speed and altitude stop. At 12:02pm EST.
It looks like they had JUST gotten to 35,000 feet... just finished their climb.

There is a 13 hour time difference between Eastern time and Beijing/Malaysia time.
That makes it 1:02am local time when the plane dropped off the radar.
But that doesn't fit either... it "went missing 2:40am local time."
Unless they waited an hour and 40 minutes to report it missing once it dropped off the radar.
(See below post, it looks like it disappeared after 40 minutes of flight, not 2 hours!)

So here is the GPS coordinates for the last known location:

The airport is Kuala Lumpur, south west of this spot.

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Ca+...05.15!2d9.1833333!1m3!2m2!1d102.5278!2d4.7073

That doesn't look like a populated area at all... (zoom in) maybe they ARE there. :twocents:

If it was populated I was going to suggest the pilot AIMED for the water.
But I'm not so sure they got that far or had that much control. :banghead:

That small body of water appears to be a man made lake.
There is SOME civilization in that area.

The other flight tracking website and where IT says the plane disappeared:

This makes a lot more sense with the FlightAware one too!
It had JUST reached cruising altitude... it had not been AT that altitude for more than a minute.

Shouldn't there have been some sort of mayday communication there was a problem? It reminds me of the Challenger disaster. No warning.

UPDATE [4:41]: Tempers flare. AFP reports that an elderly man, believed to be a family member of one of the passengers of flight MH370, punched a cameraman as he was trying to film events at the Beijing airport.

http://my.news.yahoo.com/mas-aircraft-goes-missing--says-airline-023820132.html

We are deploying our “Go Team” to Beijing which will depart Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 4.30pm with a team of caregivers and volunteers to assist the family members of the passengers.

Maybe that "Go Team" is why families are being asked to go to the airport? :waitasec:

It must have been quick, whatever it was. An explosion of some sort would be my guess.

Hubby is a A&P maintenance mechanic. His best educated guess is engine was starved of fuel, whether it was improperly filled, gauge was broken, or ice slush in the fuel (777 engines were to be modified by 2011 to fix this issue that occurred to British Airways Flight 38) praying for all.

I wondered about decompression when they hit 35,000 feet... :scared:

You can watch the progress of the flight here.
It takes a minute (possibly literally) to load so be patient.
If you hover over a plane it'll give you the flight number.
If you click ON the plane it'll give you it's altitude and everything at THAT point.

Our flight is the FIRST plane to go up and over the word Malaysia. (The ay part.)
Then it continues up to Kuala Terengganu with the blue dot (that's an AIRPORT!)

Then it goes out over the water and shortly after.... nothing.
That makes you sick... it just disappears. :tantrum:

I can't even imagine how frustrated these guys must have been!
Knowing where the plane dropped off radar and not being believed... :banghead:

@9VSKA My point is that SAR has been delayed due to incorrect information first 11 hours.

SERIOUSLY??? They haven't even FOUND it yet!! :banghead:

The former Malaysian MP Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin has angered people by making a joke in response to a tweet by broadcaster Piers Morgan about the flight’s disappearance.

Piers Morgan @piersmorgan

Incredible in the modern age that a large hi-tech passenger plane can just 'disappear'. Praying for a miracle for the 239 people on board.

YB DS Mohammad Nizar @mbnizar

@piersmorgan @bobkurus new bermuda triangle detected in vietnam waters, well equipped sophisticated devices are of no use!
