In 2013 passengers were able to board planes more than a billion times without having their #passports screened against INTERPOL's databases

That is crazy

What is suspicious to me is that they bought the tickets the day before the flight. jmo

A question just flashed through my mind but figure the odds that it will be original.
First I wondered if airplanes have cameras. Big duh! What good is that when a plane goes down along with all the crew and passengers and everything else on board.

Since there's this stolen passports situation and there's a need to know who used those passports, without pictures from the assigned seats, how will this be possible?
I don't suppose pictures from within the the boarded plane are sent anywhere prior to take off. Is it possible they are?

They'll have to match passports to the surveillance of people who boarded the plane. Please tell me this is possible, is it?

they have video of them at the airport so they know what they look like

"I can confirm that we have the visuals of these two people on CCTV," Malaysian Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said at a news conference late Sunday, adding that the footage was being examined. "We have intelligence agencies, both local and international, on board."

Are we sure they got on the plane?
Link in this thread said they are reviewing ccvid of them at check in. Will have to find it.... Hard on this little phone lol

So the question is really, why report a stolen passport when the thief can use it anyways?

With all the technology and where it is today, the thieves should have been caught by Airport Security.

For your own protection.
At least if somebody uses your passport authorites will know you are not responsible.

Oh maybe they'll match tickets by who bought them at the ticket counter - assuming that person used the tickets. ????
Cameras would capture ticket purchases? Wait, can't you buy tickets online? Of course you can.
You can also quick check your luggage at some airports from outside the terminal prior to standing in line at the processing counter.

How and when do they match checked luggage to passengers onboard? Obviously, the person who takes your luggage doesn't have to be the same person who processes your ticket or receives your boarding pass.

Hi Linda7NJ!:seeya:

I will utilize this blank post for some questions I have...

I wonder if they (the powers that be) really do have vid cam footage of the two "original" holders of the stolen passports...

and.... If they do... Have they identified them...

and if they cannot identify them with the vid cam footage.... Will they submit the pics to MSM for assistance by the public to identify these "imposters"...

Question for the aviation experts here: There has been mention of the plane possibly turning around.... first of all what would lead them to think that? That it was not located where it should have been? Secondly, under what circumstances would an airplane turn around without communicating with ATC? I thought they had to have everything affirmed and approved... Thanks!!

No. Not sure who boarded the plane.
But they know how many passports boarded. They'll have to figure out who boarded under each passport number. How will they do that?

(sorry, I haven't read the 400 posts posted since last night!)

If they were being forced by terrorists maybe?
I read that military radar data appears to indicate they turned around but I'm not sure how that works, I'll see if I can find this info

ETA
Malaysia's air force chief Rodzali Daud told a press conference that it appeared to have gone off-route. "We are trying to make sense of this … The military radar indicated that the aircraft may have made a turn back and in some parts, this was corroborated by civilian radar," he said.

The chief executive of Malaysia Airlines, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, said the plane had not informed the airline and air traffic control authorities of its change of course, as it was supposed to do in such circumstances

I would think if they were being forced by terrorists, they would have sounded some distress signal. Whatever happened ,happened by surprise,IMO.

They bought them at the same online site, on the same day and for the same price.

I guess I am missing that part. Where on the link does it talk about that?

Also, on CNN they had a retired pilot from Phoenix discussing the debris field. He said if it broke up in the air it would be a very widespread field otherwise it would be quite concentrated if it were mainly intact when hitting the water. That leads me to believe it did break up at a very high altitude.

I agree, but if they did actually turn around without a distress signal or without informing of the decision it seems to indicate either they were forced or the passengers themselves did it? Unless maybe all communications were lost for some reason? I have no idea

Radar showed a little hook indicating a turnaround (per husband).

Are the facts that the plane was 45 minutes into flight and had two hours left?
(because yesterday I read the plane had travelled two hours already)

or 2 days before, or day and a half..

The passengers, using the names Luigi Maraldi and Christian Kozel, bought consecutive tickets on 6 March from China Southern, which had a codeshare agreement for the flight, paying in Thai baht. They were booked together to Beijing, where they would have had a stopover of just over 10 hours before travelling onwards to Amsterdam. "Maraldi" was then booked to fly to Copenhagen while "Kozel" was booked on a flight to Frankfurt.

That seems hinky to me.
I can only think of reason why someone would check their bags, check in for a flight, yet not board. Do we know for sure that those passenger's bags were actually removed? The airline could just be covering their butts...

BBM - All we know is what is being reported...so I agree with you - we could only hope this will be verified and followed up on!
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26502843
"Five passengers booked on the flight did not board, he added. Their luggage was consequently removed. Malaysia's civil aviation chief, Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur....."

I hope I can post this clearly. Yesterday when the first video came out from lifve flight, it looked to me like they began a turn right before they went down. It even looked like the plane was sideways when it disappeared. I thought then that they appeared to be off course. I haven't posted those thoughts because the video is no longer available. Did anyone else see that? jmo
