BREAKING: Australia PM says 2 objects seen in water near Perth may be connected to flight #MH370. http://on.mash.to/OyUUJP

Yes, but remember the satellite that they are using are probably the top secret AUS/US one. They won't show the images to Malaysia (from what was said yesterday) so we have no idea what the image they have is like. It could be incredibly clear. Who knows?

I trust the satellite imagery Australia uses is FAR superior to Malaysia, and guarantee they wouldn't be sharing.

;)

Amazing what we can do when we narrow things down. By "we", I mean as a whole, non-neanderthal, Democracy mankind. Mostly, the FBI and the NTSB and the US Navy. *snark*

Wow, if this is really true in that gargantuan ocean... someone is really good at what they do.

The use of the terms "objects have been identified" tends to make me believe they can clearly see these are aircraft parts, not just "things".

"have been identified by satellites".....Orion plane and some other plane are en route to area...and other planes going too......

The company’s satellites circle the Earth from the North to the South Pole at a height of between 400 and 700 kilometres, with each orbit taking just 90 minutes.

Although DigitalGlobe makes their money from large contracts from governments and commercial clients, they say they are more than happy to provide the imagery for searches like this for free - just like the volunteers who scan the pictures are providing their time for free

They don't normally have pressers in an hour do they?
I know they normally have them in 5-6 hours... but not in an hour...
So is this a surprise press conference?

Is it an Australian press conference by the prime minister or a Malaysian one? If anyone finds out information about press conferences in Australia or Malaysia please post the time for everyone.

Many thanks for all your updates.

UPDATE THERE WILL BE AN AUSTRALIAN PRESS CONFERENCE SOON ACCORDING TO CNN.

I think they have been sitting on this since yesterday at least.

I think they have to be pretty darn sure at least. There is no way Tony would say anything himself without being certain. He pizzed people off enough already lately.

“The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has received information based on satellite information of objects possibly related to the search,” Abbott said, adding that he had informed Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“Following specialist analysis of this satellite imagery, two possible objects related to the search have been identified.” But he warned against drawing any premature conclusions.

“We must keep in mind the task of locating these objects will be extremely difficult and it may turn out that they are not related to the search for flight MH370,” he said.

:floorlaugh: Me too. When I heard them break news, I thought about putting a pot of coffee on.

It's going to be a long night, kids. We need pictures! :scared:

I thought about coffee, too. I have a feeling it's going to be another all-nighter...

I would imagine the objects would have to be of fair size for satellite imagery?

  • #657
So it will be him to make the annoucement -- this is history in the making (maybe) this date and time will be in the history books in the chapter right after 9-11

  • #658
So this is still based on only satellite images? Could be another similar China snafu?

If these images are from the spy satellites from AUS/US, the images are probably a lot more detailed than what we saw in the China images.

No that was Richard Quest reading and quoting directly from Aussie PM statement to the parliament.
