If you're the praying type, please say a prayer for the families. They were just discussing on CNN that many family members are suicidal. Many have lost their only heir. They already have mental health experts in the hotel there to help the families, and fear it will get worse. :( Send them some good vibes, thoughts, prayers, please.

Bear in mind that they have said on SkyNews that since being spotted and the ships sent to check, the debris could have drifted another 1000NM. So if it is the plane, it will have crashed more than 7 days ago.... imagine how far that debris has moved in that time. Then it becomes much more plausible.

That is an american plane.

oops I thought it was an oz crew and their orion.....

the good news is that they definitey have the ship technology to scan the area immediately and pick up the ping from the black box

I can't help thinking of the Titanic...I have read most of the books...:( searching for debris and then later for passengers.

They diverted another ship on Monday... so they must have known about this for a while.

It's under the water... we have the equipment, (the P8) I don't know if they do?
Maybe Aussie radar DID hit it as it flew by... and that is why they are searching there.

No, on Monday this is the area they were asked to concentrate on, that's when the search began & it's a vast search area. The navy ship being sent to the area is going to take 4 days to get there.

Reporter at hotel said some parents whose only children were on flight were the ones distressed to the point of contemplating suicide if this is the plane...

That is so incredibly sad, and as another poster said, they have the one child rule in China. Plus, I imagine some of these parents are too old to conceive again. This just gets more and more tragic :(

Malaysia says they still have not seen the images...that they were waiting for word from US or other confirmation...due to the China event.

Sky is saying lots of pings -- that could be the ping from the recorders they ping! At least we could find out speeds and altitude

John Young, emergency response division general manager at AMSA, says the objects, one believed to be about 24 metres across, are some 2300km southwest of Perth and will be difficult to locate.

In AMSA'S experience there was usually debris floating in that area, but on this occasion the size, and the fact that there were a number, made it worth looking at, he said.
