None of the debris found thus far has connection to missing plane, but hopeful that something with connection will be found: #JACC #MH370

@STForeignDesk Personal opinion is that surface search possibilities will be exhausted soon: #JACC chief #MH370

Signals come from man-made device consistent with locator on black box: #JACC chief #MH370

Watching CNN and the airline pilot expert, he made a good observation that Angus seemed much more relaxed in this press conference. He sensed that meant confidence that they had indeed found the final resting place.

Angus Houston, who heads the agency coordinating the eight-nation hunt, revealed the details at a press conference this morning.

He said the first detection was held for five minutes and 32 seconds and the second for seven minutes.

ACM Houston said it was still impossible to tell if the signals were definitely linked to MH370.

"What we have got is a great lead," he said.

"I believe we are searching in the right area but we need to visually identify aircraft wreckage before we can be sure.

Wow, that graphic showing the location of pinger detections is compelling.

  • #732
Did this change again - I thought it was like 8:11

Those are possible pings from the black box. The 8:11 one was the satellite ping from the plane before it went down on March 8.

Terrific !

humm that makes me curious. I wonder if an aircraft sinking that deep would be going down real slow kind like floating? What ya think?

Titanic?

This is creating a URGE for chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lots of it!

ANd...Aust is really handling this beautifully they answer questions
Here is what a press conferance in America is like (and it all revolves around money)
Can you tell us x
This is a fluid situation
Do you think that x happened
I would not want to speculate
We heard that x
We are unable to verify that
It was said that x happened
We are looking into that
DO you think X is responsible
I am unable to comment
What was the sequence of events
This is a fluid situation we cannot determine that at this point in time, as I have stated this is under investigation
Would you say
We are looking into that

Thank you for coming (then they walk out)
This happens after the media breathlessly says we are waiting a newconfernace endlessly...........

Very difficult, very challenging search; silt may complicate search - it may be tens of metres thick: #JACC

I am flying in August over land and I'm still nervous.
I will definitely have to take something before that flight.
Normally I am okay but this time I'm flying alone with my kids... which freaks me out totally.
I have been watching constant plane crash videos which I'm sure isn't helping either.

Jon Ostrower ‏@jonostrower 23m

Comments by Air Marshal Houston certainly imply the search for #MH370 may have an end in sight.

The search effort is also being boosted by a sonar buoy search, with a modified RAAF P3 aircraft to coordinate with Ocean Shield in the same area.

But he warned there was a lot of silt, “that could complicate the search”.

He said it was important for Ocean Shield to collect as much data as possible ahead of deploying ‘Blue Fin 21’.

“The reason we want to do that is there’s no second chances.

The cabin air pressure safety valve is a combination pressure relief, vacuum relief, and dump valve. The pressure relief valve prevents cabin pressure from exceeding a predetermined differential pressure above ambient pressure.
The dump valve is actuated by the cockpit control switch. When this switch is positioned to "ram," a solenoid valve opens, causing the valve to dump cabin air to atmosphere.

The degree of pressurization and, therefore, the operating altitude of the aircraft are limited by several critical design factors. Primarily the fuselage is designed to withstand a particular maximum cabin differential pressure.

Yeah, I know. I always watch the road extra carefully on the way to the airport. That would be just my luck. I'm flying with Virgin Australia and have had good experiences with them. It's only a 50 minute flight too. I think I might go to the doc though, to get something to take the edge off.
