Last night forty members of the Dutch military police arrived in Ukraine. But it remains unclear whether they will be able to do their work. According to the Dutch Team Forensic Detection this may take days, but that is contradicted by the Crisis Center in The Hague.
The Dutch team of military police and forensic experts can start the work in Ukraine at the earliest on Thursday, the head of National Team Forensic Detection said tonight at a press conference in Ukraine. According to Jan Tuinder, the leader of the investigations, the Ukrainian Parliament will first have to vote on the mission and that will not happen untill Thursday.
The militairy police will assist the investigators with the search and collection of the remains and belongings left behind by the victims of the air disaster. A smaller team of investigators is already active in disaster area and has permission to enter the area. But they could not to work today because there were fights in the region. Tomorrow that team will make another effort.
However, the Crisis Center in the Hague says in a comment that the Ukrainian Parliament only decides about the expansion of the number of unarmed agents from other countries. The military police who are now in Ukraine, can start their work on the crash site, as soon as the security situation permits this. No vote by the Ukrainian Parliament is required.
