Man Loses Son After Mistakenly Giving Him Alcoholic Lemonade

Wow...you know I'm not a morning person, when I took "loses" to mean that the son died. I'm glad he's alive at least.

Its named Mike's Hard Lemonade. Can we say "Hello?" :bang:

Well say hello to me too then, because when I first encountered it I didn't have any idea it was an alcoholic beverage, either.

And I certainly do not feel that not knowing about every alcoholic drink available out there means I must be living under a rock or not in the real world. In the words of Simon: 'Sorry'.

I think I could make the same mistake. I drink Diet Coke, tea, or water most of the time. I do not use alcoholic beverages and could not tell you one from the other. Often at ball games, the vendors in the stands carry a variety of items as do the vendors that you go to. If I saw lemonade, I would assume it is just lemonade. I don't think you can expect even a person who drinks to be familiar with every product out there. I think it was just a mistake, and he didn't intentionally do it. It was way too harsh to take his child away for any amount of time.

We went to our home opener and my oldest dd paid $5 for a lousy hot dog. So paying $7 for a lemonade at a ballpark doesn't seem unrealistic to me (although I wouldn't buy it because of the price!). I highly doubt the guy selling the Lemonade was shouting out "MIKES HARD LEMONADE". Maybe he was, but the price alone isn't going to give away an alcoholic drink at a baseball park.

What exactly does "hard" mean when it's in a drink?! I mean, is there "Hard Fruit Punch" too? Seriously! I've never heard of that before seeing that lemonade in the grocery store. :blushing:

I think the dad made a honest mistake. He did not know that there was a lemonade that was sold that had alcohol in it. I didn't either and I do not live under a rock. I just don't drink a lot and I don't know all of the alcoholic drinks they sell at the grocery store. I don't think I am that abnormal. I also did not realize that the word "hard" was code for alcohol. I really think that the company making this should have to put that it contains alcohol in BIG letters on the bottle since they are taking a popular kids drink and putting alcohol in it.

I can see this happening in a home too if this was in the fridge. A kid pulling a "lemonade" out of the fridge and not knowing that it was alcoholic until they tasted it. Not something that I would want in my home with children and teens in the fridge all the time when they come over to my house.

Yes, there is Hard Fruit Punch - you have SOFT drinks, which are generally sodas, and HARD drinks which are generally liquor.

They definitely are shading the areas between them - starting with wine coolers back in the day. Now it's a free for all to market to younger kids.

Mikes is YUMMY to me, but the kid probably didn't drink much of it. It doesn't taste like homemade lemonade and he probably didn't like it much.

And it's GOOD!

Yes it is!! But I can see how someone not familiar with the product might not know it's alcoholic. It looks just like lemonade. BUT, it is sold with the other alcohol at the games. And it does say HARD on the bottle. But I've been in a rush and grabbed the wrong things at times too. Not alcohol for my daughters though. There are days I need to drink alcohol to tolerate my daughters!!! :)

I had no idea either. Who would put liquor in lemonade anyway!?!?!

'Alcopops' they're called in Europe. specifically designed to attract kids, IMO. :furious:

Seriously ridiculous prices! :furious:
Yes it is, but sports and rodeo pull in millions of people here in the USA who pay those kind of prices daily without a thought.:bang:

It should be law ALCOHOLIC in BIG letters outside every container with alcohol. i wouldn't mind if they put, 'Alcohol can kill' on there too. just like they have to issue a warning on packets of cigarettes. :furious:

I would not have noticed the "hard" either.

I think this whole situation is completely crazy. I can honestly see where the hard lemonade could be confused for regular lemonade geez. To take the kid away from his home for 2 days too is outragous:eek: . Don't they have anyone with common sense running that deptartment? I also don't think the dad lives under a rock because he didn't even know the drink existed. There are so many alcoholic beverages on the market it is impossible to know each and every one of them. I would be making such a stink over this they would wish they had never met me.

I guess it is time for massive advertising by `Mikes` to educate people that Mike`s is not for kids. I thought they already did that, but I guess it is time yet again as the summer is going to be here soon.

Another situation where CPS should be crucified and vilified for the incompetent morons that they are.

Why does it happen, from county to county, state to state? Why are the people working at these places so F*****G INCOMPETENT?

Hopefully during the two days he spent in their care, he was not placed in an abusive foster home, or lost like the little girl in Florida.

Idiots.

I love Jones soda. At the food store in my town they have them in the same case as beer. That is the only pop in the case. I ask why they said it is because it is own by a beer company. So I see how a mistake could be made.
