This says 3 dead

Supposedly, had an expired private investigator's license in his vehicle and concealed carry permit.

4 people, including NYPD officer, killed in Midtown Manhattan shooting, official says
From CNN's John Miller
Four people, including a New York Police Department officer, were killed in today’s shooting in Midtown Manhattan, a law enforcement official told CNN.

The shooter, tentatively identified as a 27-year-old from Las Vegas, is also dead from what police believe is a self-inflicted injury

(If my updating on the numbers is getting annoying please let me know)

No, it's not annoying! I am appreciating the updates.

I agree - it's very jarring to see the photo of him carrying the weapon walking in midtown. That is not a typical scene at all!!
Right. This doesn’t happen. Not sauntering through the lobby of a Park Ave. illustrious building with a rifle.

My son-in-law works security at Trump Tower. Obviously that is different now with Secret Service on site, but before Trump was ever the president, anyone with a gun would be brought down instantly.

I do understand he killed a policeman who must have been part of the crew keeping the building secure.

What a tragedy.

Mine too, born and raised and still here.

I just returned home this afternoon from caring for my parents in Florida and hadn’t heard about this at all.

My mom used to work right around there.

How horrible. Not at all the typical murder scenario in NYC. Somewhat like Luigi Mangione.

Usually you have to show I.D. or an employee pass to get access past the lobby, which IMO makes this worse than Luigi, who was on the sidewalk.

Heartbroken for the murdered police victim and all others.

Same for me (born, raised, still here). My friend used to work for a firm kitty-corner from 345 and through his employer he got to take yoga and Pilates at 345. He says 345 had turnstiles that you needed a key card to pass through as well as security personnel. I just can't believe someone was strolling with that gun in Midtown.

Yes, it's shocking that he's walking so openly with that gun. The photo is sickening.

He apparently drove from Vegas. Sure wish he heeded "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." (Not trying to be funny!)

Also hard to believe the long drive wasn't a cooling off period, when he came to his senses before putting this plan in action.

Is the car his or a rental? Looked very high end to me. JMO

I know we have a lot to learn, but with what we know at this point I am puzzled by who his target might have been. I can't imagine he drove all this way to kill police officers. I wonder if his intended victim was not there?

Good question, but you would be lucky to get the same place you are from as your rental license plate.

With 4 civilians dead there is a chance he found his target(s)

345 has a reception desk plus multiple rows of card-activated turnstiles and then predominantly card-activated elevators. The turnstiles are low and jumpable (you have to understand this crowd. This isn’t fare jumpers) but he must’ve found a non-card elevator bank to get to 33, Blackstone. Surprising. I imagine he had a vendetta, MOO.

NBC says he may have been targeting the NFL

I always take the NYPost with a grain of salt, but they are allowed here and they do get things right far more often than wrong.

They are saying a total of 11 casualties with 5 deaths and 6 serious injuries, and they are identifying the shooter as Shane Tamura, 27, with pictures of various IDs of his,

No, I don't think the officer was his target, but the officer was someone he shot to gain access to the upper floors. The officer was off-duty and working as building security in the lobby. imo

If there were specific targets, seems they were on the upper floor, imo.

Speculation only. I have no idea what his evil plan was and if he achieved it.

Same, neighbor.

John Miller and the other very experienced police intelligence types are speculating on CNN. They believe, as of now, that the gunman expected to die there.

He made no attempt to hide his long gun, a gun which is very atypical in NYC, and even more so in that part of midtown.

The gunman had a background in football. We don’t know yet if his target was someone in NFL headquarters, maybe over a career grievance. (This is my most likely guess). Or someone from Blackstone if it was a financial grievance??? Maybe some former romantic partner who worked there?

I’m purely speculating as well, but I put a lot of trust in John Miller and his peers.

I agree it is unlikely that someone would drive from Vegas to here to kill a random police officer, but we’ve all seen and read and discussed many crimes that seem divorced from reality.

Totally believe this will be a perceived injustice retaliation.

I don’t believe it to be Blackstone. Waiting to hear for sure. My kid worked in that building for a few years. Some local stations are reporting that at least one of the deceased is an employee on 33. This is terrible.

I do believe he will have targeted the NFL.
