For those unfamiliar, this is the building where these murders took place. USA Today is the source of the photograph.

It’s difficult to overstate how rare this is. Access beyond the entrance is so rigorously controlled.

345 Park is only a few blocks from Rockefeller Center, where many out-of-towners have visited. Of course there is crime in NYC, but not with a visible long gun,and not in a seemingly highly secure midtown office building.

I'm curious when he arrived in NYC. Did he check out the building's lobby in advance to make a plan how to enter?

I don’t know how he ended up on the 33rd floor. Did he make his way into an elevator where someone already had pushed a button, or did he choose it as his target?

Commissioner Tisch said a black BMW pulled up on Park Avenue and a man stepped out carrying an M4 rifle and strode toward the building. He immediately shot the officer, sprayed the lobby with gunfire and went to the elevator, she said.

A woman came out of the elevator, and the gunman let her walk past him, the commissioner said. Then he went up to the 33rd floor, Rudin Management’s office, and shot another man before shooting himself.
