Essentially, as long as you take out the one off-duty police officer, all of the security they have at these building entrances are as useless as the Swamp Castle guards ("Excuse me, you're not allowed to enter the room..."). They all have security guards, doormen... Oh, but you have to use a key card to get through the turnstile. (I bet he didn't even stop to get photographed for a guest pass.) If this were a government building, he'd likely be DOA, or at the very least stuck in the lobby with no way of getting upstairs... Obvious double-standard. If you walk past the the police station in the middle of Times Square, you'll see several cops standing outside with guns that look like the one this a-hole (who sounds like another Luigi) was carrying. The employes' only hope was the old duck-and-cover. I used to carry pepper spray when I worked in NY (it would've been too much of a pain to get a permit in 2 states), but apparently nobody even had that much.

Once you badge in, you’re good. Shooter eliminated that step by killing security. He sprayed the lobby and went to an elevator bank. He got off on the first floor that opened, killed an employee and killed himself. This could have been far worse. I’d like to know the criteria for revoking a concealed carry permit due to known mental health issues.

Oh and NFL employees at 345 Park can WFH today or take the day if they need to. Does corporate understand how these people feel going back into that building right now?

Mayor Eric Adams said on Good Day New York that the shooter had intended to go to the N.F.L. offices on the lower floors of 345 Park Avenue but “appeared to have gone to the wrong floor.”

“There are two different elevator banks,” Adams said. “Some banks don’t go to every floor. He appeared to have gone to the wrong bank, and he ended up on the floor of Rudin Management.”

Mayor Eric Adams said on MSNBC said that the building had “so many safeguards,” including a way to stop the elevator from moving. But he said that the security guard who was capable of operating it could not do so becauase he was killed at the security desk.

just the other day i was reading about ronald rudin, the las vegas real estate magnate who was murdered by his wife. is there any connection between ronald rudin, the real estate magnate in las vegas, and rudin properties in new york?

(it sounds like the person at rudin properties wasn’t the intended victim at all, so i suppose i wonder if two people connected to the same family/firm both got killed in very different situations, without any further connection between the two cases)

I just spoke with a high-ranking source in the NFL:An NFL employee in the league’s finance department was struck in the back by a bullet during Monday night’s shooting.
There is a belief that the bullet may have ricocheted before hitting him. Remarkably, the man, who had recently welcomed a new baby, was on the phone with other NFL employees at the time, warning them to stay safe and evacuate the building.
He continued to make calls even while he was taken to the hospital by ambulance and Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a memo to league employees that their colleague is in stable condition.The shooter entered the building and proceeded to the elevator bank leading to the 33rd floor. The NFL’s league offices are located on the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth floors. Roger Goodell’s office is on the sixth floor.

Not to make light of this AT ALL, but he didn't even bother to do recon to learn basic high-rise elevator service.

Again, not making fun of this in the slightest. Perhaps his blunder saved some people, I don't know. I'm appalled at this cross-country trek with the mission to kill and I'm very angry it happened in my city. Don't bring that here.

Agree. And FWIW, Terry Long attempted suicide back in 1991 by drinking rat poison after testing positive for steroids. He eventually was found upon his death to have had CTE, but he had longstanding mental health issues that likely preceded CTE. I would bet ST did, as well.

That’s a good question. But even if his CCW permit had been revoked, it wouldn’t have prevented last night’s mass murder spree. ST jumped out of his BMW openly carrying an M4 rifle.

I don’t know how he ended up on the 33rd floor. Did he make his way into an elevator where someone already had pushed a button, or did he choose it as his target?

It was said at the presser that the elevator door opened and a woman exited and he let her pass by as he entered the elevator.
