Yet as of now investigators have found no medical records or anything thus far with such a diagnosis for him.

Mental health issues have been mentioned. My understanding is CTE can only be diagnosed post mortem.

I am no fan of the Mayor, but I was touched how he opened last night's presser with comments about Officer Islam. The Mayor stood up for him being an immigrant who came to our city and provided service. Rest in peace, Officer. And sincere condolences to his family. I heard on a local radio station (WNYC) that the city's Bangladeshi community as well as the NYPD community are comforting the family.

I recently watched a documentary on Aaron Hernandez ( professional football player) and learned about the post-mortem "definitive diagnosis". The documentary included two more football players. Although, in Hernandez case, drugs and other stuff, may have played a roll, I wonder what caused what first?
It made me think that, contact sports athletes should be somehow "medically monitored" during and after their career.

There was a doctor on Brian Leher's show this morning who mentioned that an autopsy would be needed for a diagnosis, though there have been improvements in finding indications of CTE before that point. So not sure ST would actually have a "diagnosis" of CTE.

One of the four victims who was shot and killed by a gunman inside a Midtown Manhattan office building on Monday night has been identified by her employer, Blackstone. Wesley LePatner worked at the global investment firm for more than a decade.

"Words cannot express the devastation we feel. Wesley was a beloved member of the Blackstone family and will be sorely missed. She was brilliant, passionate, warm, generous, and deeply respected within our firm and beyond. She embodied the best of Blackstone. Our prayers are with her husband, children and family," Blackstone said in a statement.

An initial investigation into the shooting said that a woman, now identified as LePatner, was hiding behind a pillar when she was shot and killed by the 27-year-old gunman, Shane Tamura of Las Vegas, as he walked through the lobby of 345 Park Ave.

LePatner was the Senior Managing Director of Real Estate in New York at Blackstone, according to the company website. She was also the Global Head of Core+ Real Estate and the Chief Executive Officer of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust.

She started working for Blackstone in 2014 after previously working at Goldman Sachs in the Real Estate Investment Group. LePatner was a Yale University alum, having received a BA in history from the university in 2003,according to her company profile page.

Yes, agreed.

I wonder if it’s like my mom’s Alzheimer’s, which also can’t be proven until a brain autopsy, but the symptoms are pronounced in those who suffer.

On the other hand, if LE has not yet found any kind of treatment for him, it seems at this point that he was aware he had mental health problems. That he chose to believe it was due to football may be entirely an inaccurate self-diagnosis.

In any event obviously this was an atrocity. I’m sure more solid information will be forthcoming.

I’m still reeling that he was able to own a gun, have a concealed carry permit, and work as a private investigator.

It’s true that here in NYC there are plenty of guns but they are mostly illegal. I mean NYC proper, because on Long Island and upstate, gun laws are more lax.

Just my speculation.

The film "Concussion" I mentioned earlier
which I watched on TV in my country some time ago
was a REAL eye opener.

I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Contact sports (banging heads) cause micro injuries in the brain.
I'm talking about repeated micro injuries cumulating during the sports career of a player.

In some countries, kids practising soccer (football) are not allowed to head a ball.

He killed the cop and a security guard.

I had figured there must have been some 911 calls by pedestrians who saw him walking with a long gun, but now I realize that if he drove up to the entrance, he might not have been spotted in time.

There’s really no available street parking there, which obviously was of no concern to him if he were ticketed or towed.

He was wearing a bulletproof vest according to the link I posted earlier, and he shot himself in the head, so it definitely appears that his plan was to kill his perceived enemies and then himself, as he did.

He double parked outside the building, walked across that plaza, entered the lobby and killed security. Probably happened in 60 seconds or so.

Mangione hid his identity and planned to escape, and had a reasonable expectation of doing so (for a while).

This guy is your prototypical mass murder. He had no such expectation.

Both brazen, but this was crazy.

That's the movie I mentioned in my post. It was about the book. I did not find it to be particularly well done. It left out so much.
