This is exactly what I was thinking and about to share here. I live in NYC, if I saw someone with a giant weapon I would assume they were a cosplayer or street performer especially in that general area.

With the recent uptick in societal anger, I’m inclined to assume the worst if I were to see a long gun being carried openly in a public place that isn’t a gun club or hunting area, etc. If I ever see it in a schoolyard or mall parking lot, and if I’m in my car, I plan to point my car right at said person and floor the gas pedal. If I’m wrong, I will pay the legal price, but I’m at an age where I’m willing to accept that risk.

Aaron Hernandez had violent tendencies in his adolescence, when he first joined the gangs. That was before he had any CTE damage.

Hernandez was born evil IMNSHO, and football was the only reason he wasn't behind bars.

His father's death when he was a child certainly didn't help matters, either.

I think that's the thing - the difference between seeing someone in a suburban parking lot or playground with a gun is very different than seeing someone a few blocks from Times Square, when there are tens of thousands of people around and police on literally every street.

I've lived in the midwest and would have the same reaction if I saw someone with a gun there, but it's just different in NYC - you see absurd or theatrical things on a daily basis and it feels much safer to me here walking around than I did in the midwest purely due to the huge number of people around at all times.

There have only been ten mass shootings in NYC - the most populated city in the US - in the last ~30 years, most starting with interpersonal disputes and not your standard grocery store/school spree killer. But as we can see nowhere is immune to mass shootings these days.

Brief summary: He withdrew from the school where he played football. He has had gambling issues and was suicidal. After he got his gun permit, he reported his mental-health issues, but they were not grounds for revoking his license. He has had some trouble with the law. The note he left behind included an apology to the person who owned a part of the gun used in the crime.

He played in high-school before becoming an NFL player. Add to that, the constant beatings he endured from his father. Physical abuse can also cause CTE.
Anyways, I'm not defending him, nor anyone here. Just stating that, since CTE can only be diagnosed post-mortem, contact sports athletes should be medically monitored.

He had at least one version of ApoE4, and elsewhere, I read that he had two ApoE4, inherited from two grandparents. So it is a combination of Alzheimer's traits plus chronic brain trauma.

He was mentally ill. I will not rely on his self diagnosis of CTE. He drove straight across the country to 345 Park. If it had taken him one hour less, the lobby would have been packed with people exiting. 33 only had a couple of people who had not yet left for the day. I don’t know what would have stopped him, other than him not being able to possess a gun. I’ll wait to hear if he exhibited behavior before this that should have made his circle aware.

Shane Tamura trying to blame the NFL is a little baffling. He did not come remotely close to making it to the NFL level. There is not any evidence as far as I have seen that he even played in college at any level. The only evidence we have is that he played in highschool.

Now who knows how seriously the highschool program he went to took head injuries but overall highschool programs are taking head injuries very seriously these days.

If he had a history of mental illness I'd be more concerned about rather he was being properly medicated for whatever problem he had.

Yes. Trying to blame the NFL and CTE sounds like a nice way of getting himself some additional attention. However Shane never played past highschool. This is more of a case of people being properly medicated for mental illness than it is an issue from playing highschool football.

I thought he played in the Canadian Football league? I read that here, but may it wasn't accurate.

I have not seen any evidence at all that he played past highschool. Generally CFL players are still stars from college. There is no evidence that he ever played in college.

I wonder why he did not play in college. Sounds like he was good enough. Didn't have to be a top-tier program.

Only about 2 to 3 percent of highschool players ever play in college.

If it was beyond his control, he may have a lot of anger built up that his life is not what he thought it should be...Did he have one too many concussions and could not play the end of the season and so he just spiraled and possibly acted out and things just went bad from there?? There is a story here. Does he have mental health issues because of CTE and/or repeated concussions or does he have mental health issues that were rooted in neglect and/or abuse. No family has spoken out. Was he close to his family?

His high school coach says the only injury he remembers ST having was an ankle injury, fwiw.

He graduated from and played football for Granada Hills highschool. It's becoming quite common for highschool kids to transfer around. Most of the time to play on a specific team. He did graduate from highschool so him leaving his first school isn't that alarming. He likely just did what lots of kids are doing these days.

Ok the link I looked at said he did graduate. In anycase after the fall semester would have been after football season was done. All that really indicates is that he was there to play football. Not to do homework.
