Found William Ellis on NamUs, who went missing from Baltimore in 1971. Would match with "Ellis written" inside of the pocket, and looks similar to the UP.

I'm not sure, I agree that he looks similar, but NamUs says that William Ellis has a tattoo of an eagle on his arm and no tattoos are mentioned on the UID's NamUs page. Not saying we should rule him out based on that but it's something to consider.

Definitely, I was just surprised to see he wasn't excluded and think they should at least make sure the UD is not William due to the circumstances the matching name.

Could Ellis refer to Perry Ellis the designer? I guess the markings wouldnt be so discrete then. But it was the 70s, so IDK.

Thats a pretty fashion conscious outfit, though.

I read online that Perry Ellis didn't start his men's collection until 1980. So I would assume the Ellis name on this overcoat refers to this man's name or someone else who once owned the coat if it was secondhand. He doesn't sound obviously homeless or at least not for long, but it is usually homeless people that are found in vacant buildings. I couldn't get the postmortem photo to work. It says his cause of death is unknown, perhaps it was even natural at his age.

I wonder if they were able to run toxicology on him to see if he died of a drug overdose or something. Drug addicts are sometimes found dead in vacant buildings or possibly his death occured because he was homeless or a combination of that and natural given he was older. Sometimes homicide victims are dumped in vacant buildings to cover up murders, as well as homeless people seeking shelter there.
