MD - Cockeysville teen charged in murders of parents, two brothers *Guilty*

This boy allegedly decided that killing his family was the way to solve his situation. Hopefully, we can all agree that murder is the wrong way to resolve a problem.

(Sorry, Jeanna, I did not realize I was off topic!)

May I just dip a tentative toe in here and suggest that there are many different reasons that people oppose the death penalty. First, DNA has proven that many people who were on death row were wrongly convicted. Second, the lynch mob mentality which erupts is frankly terrifying. The Atlanta news websites were filled with people ready to string up Gary Hilton right away, but if he is dead, then other families who desperately seek answers are denied justice. Finally, this boy allegedly decided that killing his family was the way to solve his situation. Hopefully, we can all agree that murder is the wrong way to resolve a problem. So, how can you logically conclude that killing him is the way to solve anything? I mean no disrespect, but it comes across as blind vengence just itching to kill. I am glad we have some sort of civilized system of justice, faulty as it is at times.

There's a thread in the Parking Lot if you want to debate the death penalty. Thanks.

What are we trying to solve? I guess I just believe in good ol' fashioned punishment. Too late to solve anything....they're already dead! Keeping him in prison for life solves no more than the death penalty does.
But I'd be satisfied with life without parole. At 15, that's a very long time. He'd learn to appreciate just what his family did do for him! No driving around in your fancy new car your mean ol' daddy bought for ya!

We're not going to debate the death penalty on this thread. This thread is for this case. The death penalty debate is going on in the Parking Lot!~!!!

Thanks everyone for understanding!!!!!

OOPs, sorry, I didn't even realize that was what I was doing. Oops!

Come join us in the Parking Lot, Truly! :) I think it was a great idea to put the DP debate in one thread away from the stories - else, about every story would turn into a DP debate!

I'm kinda new here. I didn't even know there is a Parking Lot. LOL!
I love to debate, but I doubt that I'd change any minds.

Yeah, you and me both.

And thanks for the invite, southcitymom, but I've recently had my heart broken by a murderer who attacked a girl out of the clear blue sky in a parking lot, so I believe I'll pass. But thanks. :blowkiss:

I never spanked any of my kids!! Its unnecessary. IMO

I'll admit that I spanked mine and I haven't seen any repercussions due to those spankings. They didn't get it often but once in a while I felt it was necessary when they were younger. When they got older they lost privileges, etc. When I was raising kids spanking...with love...was the way everyone corrected their kids. Boy, even now, I've been around some kids that could use a little of that wood shed therapy. My 8 year old granddaughter is high on the list of spoiled rotten brats. No one likes to be around her and she doesn't have any friends because she is so rude. I've heard her say some things and act some ways to where if she was my daughter we would have gone to the bedroom and I would have bent her over the bed and given her a few good sound swats. It's her mom and stepdad's fault but she really is a first class brat. She is never corrected over anything.

In my opinion all spanking does is teach a kid that when you don't know what else to do, hit someone. That never worked for me as a child (I was spanked quite frequently as I seem to be rather . . . stubborn)!!!!! LOL I've always just felt that there were better ways to teach my children what the right thing is. When kids are small, its very easy to teach them right from wrong and once they're older, hitting them is just ridiculous. IMO

I think that my husband's method (learned from his father) is about the best. He used discussion followed by a spanking. He never spanked his children out of anger. What he has done with them since they were little was to give them one warning. If the warning went unheeded, he would take them to their rooms or to the car (if out of the house) and discuss their behavior and why it was inappropriate, making them repeat back to him why it was wrong (either inappropriate, such as a tantrum in the store or dangerous, such as riding bike in the street). Then, he would follow it up with a little spanking to seal the deal.

He said that he actually hated his father's talk much more than he did the spanking and often wished that his father would just be quiet and get to the spanking.

My husband is very well balanced and polite. His children are actually very good kids and very polite, to boot. So, I personally think that this was the right method. It was all done out of love (never anger); and the kids knew it.

" Nicholas Browning told police that he was playing video games at a friend's house late Feb. 1 -- a Friday -- and into the next morning when he decided to walk the nearly three miles back to his parent's large Colonial-style home, a source familiar with the investigation has said."

Wouldn't you think his friend would find it odd he was going to walk 3 miles back to his house? That's far. Do they mean 3 miles each way or there and back? Still, that's very far. I wonder if he was on track at all.

SCM, i am also guessing they mean suicide watch. I wonder if he was acting suicidal. Or if it is a case as such, it is normal procedure.
I also find it interesting that in their detention center, or jail they have a section for inmates up to age 23. I guess it varies by state. Our local county has a section for minors up to 18, once they turn 19, they're in general pop.
I wonder if he'll go to protective custody, as he is from an upper middle class well to do family. That might not sit well with other inmates.

Well, you should definitely stop by. I do think that opinions sometimes get changed on the DP thread. Regardless of that, I enjoy the civil and thought-provoking arguments there. It makes me think constantly about my "position" and try to answer honestly some tough questions. It has been very good for me, whether my opinion has formally changed or not.
