I am watching CNN now and they are showing the video of the arrest. Now that I can see really good on big TV and the angle they are showing, when they are standing him up, his right leg is bent up really weird at the bike tire.

So, the video that shows the cops and the guy and the two bicycles is NOT the location where they initially 'caught' him. It was nearby and they dragged him to that spot. - CNN

Talking head on cnn makes the point that the van stopped to put leg shackles on Mr Gray. And that the most common reason to put leg shackles on in that situation is because the prisoner is kicking the vehicle. That if he could not move his legs, he wouldn't be able to kick the vehicle. Good point.

(But I do have to point out that he asked for an inhaler just before he was put into the van. The back of a van, no contact with the driver, no means of comunicating. If he was struggling to breathe, that could have been why he was kicking, in order to get the drivers attention.)

Earlier on cnn a police official admitted that Mr Gray was in the van without a seatbelt.

I can see getting him in there quickly and getting him out of the neighborhood. But when they stopped to put shackles on him, was he put into a seatbelt at that time?

I just saw that also on CNN, I was shocked, didn't realize that.

One thing is for sure, he was able body to run 2 blocks before being stopped/apprehended, after that and at the point of the video that I have seen I don't see what could have happened to him as far as his breathing goes. I saw were his legs were in between the front tire of the bike that could have caused him to have difficulty walking but as far as what his cause of death being spinal/throat? I think that may have happened in the van. jmo idk

If you run a couple blocks and have asthma, more then likely you will have trouble breathing. I would, and always have my inhaler on me at all times. I'm going to guess that with the pain, having trouble breathing, he was panicking, and that makes your breathing worse and worse.

Stopping the van to put leg shackles on Mr Gray could have been a ploy on the part of LE - knowing full well at that point he was in bad shape. Stopping the van and taking him out could have been a way to show anyone looking that he was 'acting irate' as LE put it, and they needed to do something. That footage would be more telling imo.

I am clueless as to what happens to a person that suffers from asthma, I mean physically do sufferers have seizures or convulse? TIA

Depending on severity, yes. Also, asthma can cause a sort of claustrophobic, suffocating sensation, causing you to panic and act in a way that might appear "out of control" if they did not know you were fighting to breathe.

My hope is that they will be able to remember their loved ones are in that crowd, that they will want to continue the protests as long as necessary, and that they will "police" themselves to prevent violence.

Not likely maybe, but I can hope.

I don't call this peaceful:

I would not get anywhere near there. We saw what they did to people in Ferguson.

I understand that sometimes, a suspect will try to fake out cops by pretending to be injured... but we should pretty much always, and safely, give the benefit of the doubt and provide medical assistance. They should have called an ambulance when he couldn't walk and was begging for his inhaler. :/

Agreed. Even if LE is calling total BS on suspicious fakery, they need to call for med backup if for no other reason, to cover their azzes.

Yeah it might be eye-rolling most of the time, but beats having charges brought against you for leaving a severely injured man without medical attention.

Yes. Exactly. I also suffer from migraines, and if I even get the slightest suggestion of an aura (say from looking at bright light, or just getting overheated) I will begin to panic in anticipation of a full-blown migraine, making it worse, and VOILA! Full blown soul-sucking migraine!

Asthmatics often do the same; experience a slight breathing problem and then the fear of that problem worsening can actually cause a severe attack to happen.

O/T but why am I constantly assaulted by that nasty picture of a cheerleader in white booty shorts with a blood or poop stain on them? Really? Are we serious?

How does that belong here? That is really inappropriate.

I did reach out to cnn anchors...because I hv something to say. Even today, still they keep saying Something Happened Inside of That Van. But no one knows what. Because of this....I started to think on a dinner conversation I had w a cop in a neighboring state to MD. This cop, at dinner told a story of how much he loved to get said prisoners into the back seat unbuckled, and then go to top, speeds and then slam on the breaks so that the guy would face plant into the wire cage. He laughed when he told the story. We were disgusted. And after days of we don't know what happened......I hv to get this out on an open forum....I need reporters n IA and cops to be ASKED....did you enjoy doin this too? It could hv easily caused crush injuries as well as severed spinal cord and or broken neck, so .....help me get the word out. This isn't something the general public would ever suspect let alone IA....but other cops? They know those who enjoy this type of Sado masochistic behavior.

The video at your link doesn't seem to work, AND it doesn't appear to be a MSM piece, AND in the description it says:

Protesters, feeling disrespected by Baltimore's Western District Police, try to knock down a barrier in front of the station.

Citizens have been marching and protesting for days in response of the murder of Freddie Gray, an unarmed black man who was killed while in Police Custody.

I guess I fail to 'get' what is funny about the death of Freddie Gray. Other than that the video played for about 5 seconds and then went dark, never to play again. CNN was covering it earlier, and I didn't see anything that looked like the 5 seconds I saw of this video.

It plays fine for me--not sure why your computer won't play it.

What was Mr Gray arrested for? I keep reading he was arrested without incident, however I cannot find what the charges were.

A person can be picked up and detained for questioning, right? But is that considered an arrest? To be stopped, placed in a police transport vehicle, wouldn't there need to be some reason?

Regardless, this man was yelling out in pain. I can understand if the police wanted to move away from the scene due to tension, however medics should have been called within minutes. Wouldn't police be required to provide first aid or call medics anytime a person is expressing distress? That should be a given whether a person is in police custody or not.

We don't know what those officers were thinking, but for the record, I don't believe LE knew Mr Gray was in that grave of a condition.

Sad situation.

Police spokesmen have been saying when he ran that gave them probable cause to stop him. When they frisked him they found a spring loaded knife that could be operated with one hand which is illegal in Baltimore. At that point they placed him under arrest.
