I'm curious as to how many white people have died in the custody of LE in Baltimore. I don't think that this is just AA being harmed or killed by police. Maybe the police, white as well as black, could be roughing up people they arrest whatever race.

My husband lost a brother after he was arrested for DUI. He was arrested and put into the paddy wagon and taken to jail. Next morning he was discovered dead on his bunk with severe head trauma to the back of his head. Police decided it was due to a fall from his bunk. Ruled accidental, case closed. I did not know my husband at the time but met him shortly after this happened. Curious person that I am, I started asking questions. I was having a hard time with the "falling out of his bunk" theory put forth by LE. The trauma was on the back of his head and he also suffered multiple contusions all over his body. And, how do you just fall out of your bunk and land on the back of your head? Also, how did he get back into the bunk after such a horrendous fall? There was a man in the next cell who "saw nothing, heard nothing". This man later told my husband that LE had beaten his brother to death but that he would never agree to testify because he was told the same thing would happen to him.

Prosecutor refused to investigate the case and it remains closed.

This happened in the 70's. My would-have-been brother-in-law was a white man and the officers were also white.

Of course. However, there were no outstanding warrants for Mr. Gray. In fact CNN covers his criminal history quite concisely, even noting he was due to appear in court on April 24th. Which means, there was absolutely no reason to arrest him once they learned the so-called knife, that one of them allegedly saw, was determined to be nothing more than a legal pocket knife. Moreover, considering they lied about the pocket knife, I cannot help but to wonder if they also lied about why he ran.

The point about why he ran is a good one. Overall picture is that FG had some type of issues as a result of previous lead poisoning. Had been in special ed. Was not an especially big person. Wouldn't these issues have made him a target of bullies when he was younger? Would he still have been a target of bullies?

More Than 4,800 Arrest-Related Deaths Reported from 2003 to 2009

Of reported persons who died during the process of arrest, 95 percent were male. About 42 percent were white, 32 percent were black/African American and 20 percent were Hispanic or Latino. More than half (55 percent) were between ages 25 and 44, and juveniles (persons under age 18) were about three percent of all arrest-related deaths.

autopsy report says was the result of being repeatedly slammed around in the back of a police van driven recklessly, a practice commonly known as a “rough ride.” The news of his death sparked days of protests, some of which turned violent on Monday evening.

Wonder if that is really what the autopsy says.

So it ought to be interesting when they prosecute a black officer for conducting the 'rough ride' which killed the victim. Will this affect the accusation that this was a racist action?

This was probably posted but I missed it so others likely did too.

A while back there was a debate on here regarding what the mayor meant when she said "give them space".

Now there are supposedly multiple sources that claim the mayor ordered the police to stand down during the Monday night riots and said "Let them loot, it's only property".

http://video.foxnews.com/v/42071639...-mayor-tries-to-duck-fox-news/?#sp=show-clips

Seems there should be some sort of civil litigation that could be pursued against the mayor by the citizens that had their businesses looted and burned, suffered assaults and had their lives put in danger.

Have any of those arsonists/looters been arrested and charged for the BBM?

If the black officer gets convicted and the white officers do not...

In the Eric Garner case the black sergeant watched the whole thing go down and didn't say a word, that didn't stop the cries of racism.

Then why did the others get arrested they weren't driving the van

Did she say anything about the GPS info from the van?

Also, did anyone else hear (sorry no link) one of the talking heads remark that seatbelt regulation only went into effect a few days before FGs arrest?

I wondered about that too. This is the officer 'in charge' when he was fatally injured, AFAIK.

I may be incorrect, but it SEEMS like he was the officer that was the one that is charged with the DELIBERATE actions as opposed to the others' charges. And it SEEMS as if he was the one officer that did not cooperate and come in for questioning and was the officer that did not divulge the 'secret' stop.

It might be a problem in some of the public's mind IF the black officer receives the stiffest penalties,imo/

They got arrested for arresting the victim. Seems stupid to me that they are put in jail for arresting a long time criminal for running away from them. I bet the morale on the BPD is at an all time low right now.

The locals are out in the streets dancing and celebrating right now. I wonder if they will be so thrilled when the arrests in their neighborhoods drop way off and the local gangs gain more control?

Anyone know what the benchmark of education and/or training is for Police Officers? I know here in Canada to even be considered 2 years Law and Security from Community College. From there at least a B.A. from a University. The more education you have it pushes you up on the very long list. Generally speaking it's usually 6 years of Education. Once you are accepted you must complete I believe it's around 9 months at Police College at your own cost. Police (and fire) are very well paid here. Both Police and Fire are heavily applied to as well.
