She knew it was a legal arrest, but she wanted to arrest all 6 of them to make a big statement and calm the rioters. AND she wants some leverage to try and make some deals, imo. If she can have some wiggle room to let some off in exchange for damning info against the others she is in good shape. So she trumped up charges against a couple to take down the rest, imo.

Happens everyday by prosecutors. It sucks, but thats how the justice system works.

Wow. Talk about classic cya. Sounds like disbarred DA Mike Nifong after the video aired documenting one of the "rapists" picking up takeout , stopping at an ATM, and checking into his dorm at the time of the mythical attack.

IMO in some of these high profile cases, the facts seem to be secondary to the "larger message," and there's more than a few who seem to be OK with that.

Or was that 40 minute ride reserved for one person?

It was a Sunday morning, so they probably get a longer ride than usual since there isn't as much going on.

Think about it. They need those vans out there as much as possible as transportation for foot and bike patrol cops arrests.

Mosby was in an enormous hurry to charge these officers. I'm not so sure she knew the actual description of the baltimore law. The big question is how have the courts ruled on spring assist knives before? I will be shocked if the court rules they are legal!!

Everyday prosecutors use charges that they otherwise wouldn't to get people to talk. Yes. Some don't like it this time because it happens to be a cop. And we dont know how innocent they are. We dont even know why they went after him.
I think Mosby has a smoking gun.

Yep. Not sure why people think officers should get different treatment. A man in their care is dead. It isn't like the knife is the only issue in this case.

The Baltimore SA has that information, nobody here does.

No. I assume most prisoners end the trip alive. Ofc. Goodson, according to Mosby, failed to buckle FG in on 5 separate occasions, so I assume he went back and checked on him at least 4 times + noted his condition when he came aboard. Somehow in the 40 min. FG went from quasi-normal to quasi-dead, and the only person following his condition throughout was Ofc. Goodson, who apparently didn't notice anything noteworthy enough to call EMTs.

I'm not too concerned about the seat belt part. I don't like that they don't do it, but there is some wiggle room if they just got the rule a few days before.

I'm keeping an open mind on this until I hear more.

What you missed is that the Baltimore SA office started investigating this case long before the files were officially turned over to the office.

I'm not at all concerned about the seat belt rule when it comes to police vans. There's no glass on the sides and a solid partition divides the right compartment from the left ... leaving the arrestee effectively boxed in and unable to fly throw a glass window like an untethered perp might in a police cruiser crash.

Did you see the design of that van? How is police officer supposed to climb in there and get the seat bealt on uncooperative detainee is beyond my understanding. Even if detainee is fully cooperative there is very little space in there.

I'm not sure Mosby knew Baltimore had stricter knife rules than MD, because she looks foolish now to all but those who don't care about the law. I think she was unaware of the Baltimore statute, because she's never personally tried a case in her life iirc.

Maybe that's why police officer file that motion asking to release the knife.

And a lot of people who are upset with her on this board, forget she ran on a platform that included fighting police corruption and misbehavior. This is what the voters wanted. She is walking the walk not just talking the talk and I for one am glad for it.

I'm just glad that she is supporting the constitution. We need more politicians who are willing to tell cops to stop violating people's constitutional rights. If some cops want to quit because of that (I doubt they will), then good riddance. Cops are sworn to uphold the constitution. If they are not willing to do that, then they should not be cops.
