He has previously fractured his right leg and several of his right ribs. Miles's nickname is Bobby.

[h=3]Details of Disappearance[/h] Miles was employed at Carlton Massey Ford Inc. on Route 13 in Pocomoke City, Maryland. He departed from the premises at approximately 2:00 p.m. on March 30, 1985. Miles told his co-workers that he planned to travel to Pocomoke, Maryland and would return to the business shortly. He was driving the dealership's 1985 Ford Escort at the time; it had the Maryland license plate number D47532 or D46400.

Miles has never been heard from again and the vehicle he was driving has never been recovered. Authorities do not believe that Miles left of his own accord, as there was no evidence of domestic problems at the time of his disappearance. Foul play is suspected in his case.

Some agencies may classify Miles's case as involuntary missing. Pocomoke, Maryland may be listed as the location of his disappearance. Carlton Massey Ford Inc. is now located on Ocean Highway in Pocomoke City.

Does anyone in MD know what became of Carlton Massey Ford, Inc. It appears that the Massey estate was sold off at some point.

Is anyone able to check local newspapers online? I wonder if any searches had been done at all.

I have the impression that he had some shady business and that a colleague or company boss was also involved... in the end it is always advisable to eliminate the person since he can speak up if there is a disagreement... perhaps drugs or deception. someone's wife or an affair with someone at the company...
either way
rest in peace

"He was driving the dealership's 1985 Ford Escort at the time; it had the Maryland license plate number D47532 or D46400."

So why is there confusion over the license plate?

Surely the dealership, which is his place of work, would know which car he took to drive into town?

There should be no confusion about license plates.....unless they were purposely trying to cloud things?

It no longer exists. I am not entirely sure what happened, but Carlton Massey Sr died in 2003 and then the current dealership that exists in the same location, Hertrich, I think opened around 2008. His wife Bea Massey died at the end of 2019 and his son Carlton Massey Jr (Teddy) died in 2022.

Maybe it's one of those removable dealer plates for test driving vehicles and they had lost one somehow so they were missing two when they went to check which one he'd taken?

That’s what I’m thinking too. Where I live, the river is very similar. Cleanup crews still pull cars out of it that have been down there for 50 years or more. They run the VIN, and if it comes back stolen, it goes to State Police. If not, it goes to the scrapyard as salvage.
Makes me wonder whether anyone ever used sonar on the Pocomoke. My guess is his car could be sitting not far off the deepest boat unofficial access points.
I also wonder whether if the Ford had electric windows. If it was a cooler time of year, the windows were probably up. If he parked, leaned the seat back, and the brake let go, the car could have rolled in, floated briefly, then sunk. In that situation, he may not have been able to get out in time.

"The Pocomoke River in Maryland and Delaware is a remarkably deep, narrow river, with depths typically ranging from 7 to 45 feet. Often cited as the deepest river for its width in the world, it features steep banks and reaches maximum depths of around 30 to 45 feet, particularly downstream, while maintaining a narrow width."
