Baltimore Police Update, Recorded on 2/21/1980 Baltimorepolice on USTREAM. Local News
First part of presser
Anthony G., police spokesperson:
Search planned for this weekend. Not going to give out too many details. Media will be covering the event. For the integrity of the investigation, BPD will not be releasing details about
where.
Then there's a long bit about a scam, unrelated to PB.
Then AG came back and continued.
AG- I want to give some limited information about a very very large search that we are planning for this weekend. In conjunction with the search we are going to be doing a canvassing effort. This is all in relation to the PB investigation. We have been in contact with our law enforcement partners across the state, even the FBI. And we are going to be searching a wooded area in metro B'more this coming Saturday. Details have been provided to your news directors for planning purposes. We are asking news agencies not to publicize the location of this site, for protection of the integrity of the investigation. In addition to that we are looking for public assistance. We would like members of the public who would like to help out. We are looking to form a very large canvassing effort in the area of Reisterstown Plaza where PB was last seen by friends and relatives.
IN the last two months we have only gotten 5 tips. 5 tips have come into our hot line. All the tips that have come in, which is in the area of about 180 to 200 tips, all have been investigated, they have all been determined to be unfounded. We are putting tremendous resources behind this effort. We are going to have roughly 200 members of the community canvassing, going door to door, putting flyers on cars trying to generate as much intelligence as possible so that we can properly investigate the case.
In addition to that, we will have this search effort in this wooded area. It will be led by B'ore city homicide, the FBI, our partners in…All the surrounding counties have been involved, state police, department of natural resources police…it will be a very extensive effort. Your news directors have been provided with the information, but we are asking, please, for the integrity of the investigation, that you not publicize it
Reporter Question: Does this area have significance?
AG- It does have some significance. I can’t go into too much specifics, but through our investigation we identified this as an area of interest. It was associated with one of the POI’s that we talked to, one of the 30 individuals who last saw PB.. This location was identified as a location we needed to search. We have searched this area once before, and the winter got in the way and the frozen ground and snow limited our ability to search further. Now we are going to be doing a mass search.
RQ- Is the hot line still running?
AG- The hot line is very much still alive… excuse me, it is very much up and running. 855 223 0023 Dedicated solely to PB. Over the last two months we have only gotten five tips.
RQ- Do you still have the same number of people also working this case? Before you said at some point it would be difficult to maintain that same level….
AG--That squad, that homicide squad that started this case is still working this case. Our resources expand and contract based on intelligence and the needs of the investigation. They are in daily communication still with PB's mom and dad and family members and friends. We are really pleading…we know there are people out there that know more than they have possibly shared with police. We are asking those individuals, if you know any information about this case, please come forward. Again, your news directors will be provided the specific details and the media staging area later today, and we are asking-- pleading --that you not publicize that.
RQ- You are going to have 200 volunteers, citizens who are going out…how did you guys gather up those people to be volunteers?
AG--They are volunteers. They are members of local universities, they are members of local church groups, We are asking Anyone interested in volunteering, contact the BPD public affairs office 410 396 2012 also access social networking—facebook, twitter, email. However you can get in contact with us. We are looking to compile additional volunteers As many apartments, houses, and cars in the area. Anyone who lives in that area that may have some information, we need some help.
Thanks.
