Urban search and rescue teams, the civil air patrol and two dozen dogs joined cityy homicide detectives in the search for Phylicia Barnes. Police from several counties, FBI agents, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and volunteers gathered off Ilchester Road to search ravines and other rugged areas of this sprawling 16,000-acre park.
"We're not going to, literally, leave a single stone unturned," Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld III told reporters this morning. Officers were using a variety of all-terrain vehicles and were concentrating efforts along roadways, streams and hiking trails.
Illchester Road snakes between Route 103 near Ellicott City and areas just south of Catonsville and twists through budding suburban developments on old farmland. Search teams could be seen from the road, concentrating along streams, trails and abandoned buildings from an old mill complex.

Bealefeld also would not be more specific about what led police to the park. But he said such a gigantic undertaking would not have been assembled without "actionable intelligence." He said, "We have considered every conceivable tip that has come in."

I actually went there today with my family to go hiking in an area that is popularly known as "hell house". It's been torn down for a year or so but this is where the mobile units are set up at. You can research the area if you google Hell House Ellicott City. Also Thistle Mill Ellicott City. It's an abandoned paper mill at the bottom of Hell House (aka St Marys College). Lots of ravines and abandoned mill workers houses in the area. Hell house is/was known to be a place for people to go at night and get chased away by the old caretaker that used to live up there the guarded the old redeptorist college while it was abandoned. I have been up there numerous times over the last several years and it can be very creepy up there. I know so much about this place if you have a any questions feel free to post them. I can try to answer them. I have done a bit of research on the area over the last few years too. Hope this helps give some insight to the area for those who are not from this area.

I am assuming yes, but has it mentioned if they are using dogs, and which kinds, if so?

And if you want to google earth the area--the actual address for st Marys college (hell house) is 4446 Bonnie Branch Rd Ellicott city md. Not too sure if it will return the actual location or the general area but on google earth it's a huge pile of bricks since the college was bulldozed over

I saw truck and vans marked K9. Dont know if they have cadaver dogs or not. I'm sure they do after all the stuff I saw they had just from driving past. I was kinda shocked. Didn't know they would be in that area. I have never seen such a search this massive in this area like this before. Only on TV in searches like for Caylee or Haleigh. They HAVE to know something.

From the articles I posted above,
Urban search and rescue teams, the civil air patrol and two dozen dogs joined city homicide detectives in the search for Phylicia Barnes

So they have dogs, just doesn't say what kind....

Presser at 6 am, B'more time.
Baltimore Police Department 04/09/11 06:04AM, Baltimore Police Department 04/09/11 06:04AM Baltimorepolice on USTREAM. Local News

LE thanks the church that has hosted the LE search.
We have enlisted the help of hundreds of community volunteers, and hundreds of LE and public safety people from across the state.
Here's what we know. We know that On Dec. 28,2010, young PB went missing from NW B'more. She was 16 yrs old. The BPD reacted swiftly and engaged in a vigorous investigation and search for PB. We have not relented from that effort since that very first moment that we were alerted to her disappearance. We have teamed up very quickly with other state, local, and Federal LE agencies to bring to bear ever bit of investigative wherewithal to find PB and develop information that could help us conclude this case. We enlisted the help of The center for missing children. Our team has spent thousands of man-hours trying to determine what has happened to young PB. We have conducted over 30 interviews, we have searched homes, vehicles, and many
(video is cut off here. I am trying to find another source).
ETA I can't find another source. Hopefully later it will be corrected.
There is supposed to be another presser at 1:30 B'more time.

Video with interview with FBI agent (not involved in PB's case). He was quoted in a prior article, and I found the video for those who want to see it. No new information, so I did not transcribe.

FB PeasintheirPod
posts that the police say they will shut down search early, after finding nothing.
Time: 90 min, about 70 minutes left at this time.

Latest search is at Howard County side of the park.

PB's purse missing doesn't necessarily mean she removed the purse. If someone took her out of the apartment impaired in any way they could have taken her purse. As well as make it appear she left willingly and expected to return shortly.

jmo

Cubby when they mention the items that she took with her (which I am still trying to figure out how they know) they said that she took these items the purse, coat, her new slippers, phone, and others, but left the emergency card. This to me is a sign that she was going out to get something to eat (most likely a drive-thru) and returning shortly. I don't think that MJ and the POI's gathered these items up just to make it look like she was not forced out. I really believe that she went willingly thinking that she would return shortly.

Question, where do you think PB kept the emergency credit card????

This search reminds me of the one(s) for Paige Johnson, in that huge park where they feel she might have been left. It is apparently hundreds, if not thousands of acres and they can only cover so much at a time. :(

PLEASE READ

Police have just called off the first extensive search for missing teen Phylicia Barnes since early in the year after more than five hours’ effort by area law enforcement agencies and volunteers turned up no results.

After questioning the former boyfriend of the 16-year-old’s half-sister for more than six hours Friday, Baltimore City detectives and the FBI were joined by cops from three adjoining counties and the Maryland State Police to search for the young woman from North Carolina who vanished without a trace in Baltimore Dec. 28.

Yes, it appears to be the abandoned paper mill that's being searched in those photos from WBAL. Here's a map to the mill:

ilchester, md - Google Maps

I also found some links online where folks have gone in and photographed the abandoned mill recently. Looks like a very creepy location.

Calling off the search so quickly may be significant in itself?

Did the article mention MJ by name as being questioned?

It is my firm belief that his picture should be posted everywhere! I think that it should be posted all over Baltimore, the news and newspapers because seeing his face could help people recall what happened to Phylicia! It may help immensely in this case!
