Why hasn't there been any arrests? What is the status on this case?

:praying:

I hope there is an arrest soon. Very soon. Like, yesterday.

With her body being in water for so long... :(... I don't know how they can say definitively that she was raped or not raped, kwim? Seems like it would be impossible to tell. :twocents:

I don't believe she was raped. Phylicia was killed in anger, struck and likely strangled. Carried out of the house by MJ along with his moving stuff. Brought along on his 'fishing' trip and put in the river. Seems theres just not enough evidence to put him in prison.

There's a number of articles today about "Phylicia's Law" in MD,
but this one has details about the family testifying.

http://www.delmarvanow.com/article/...043/Advocates-testify-Maryland-Phylicia-s-Law-

Deena Barnes, Phylicia’s older half-sister, testified Wednesday that when she reported that her 16-year-old sister was missing, the officer laughed and told her the teen would return on her own.

“If he had not done that and taken it seriously, maybe my sister would still be here today,” Deena Barnes said. “I’m very angry because she’s gone and something could have been done if someone had taken it seriously from the beginning.”

Several members of Barnes’ family told the committee about their frustrations with the Baltimore police department’s initial response. Her father, Russell, said they realized they needed to take matters in their own hands and began calling around for help. In the weeks and months after the teen’s disappearance they built a large network of people who were searching and spreading the word about Phylicia’s case.

I still keep hope that an arrest will be made in this case. Hopefully soon. :( Beautiful Phylicia deserves justice!

A law is great and all, but it won't bring her back to the family that loves and misses her.

This is sad, imo. From a person who kept the company she kept. Provided her 16 yr old minor sister with alcohol and drugs, iirc.

Imo, Phylicia was already deceased by the time her sister reported her missing. There are no poi's as far as we know who were unknown to the Barnes family.

Personally I do not think LE botched this case and that is what DB seems to be implying here. IMO, this is a matter of having a rock solid case which allows no room for the defense to provide reasonable doubt by pointing fingers at any of the other known people to have had access to the apartment during the time of Phylicia's visit. And thanks to DB and Co that list is quite a few.

Russell isn't going to be doing anything that hasn't been done before. A LOT of how to's exist already, Project Jason, is a good example. In fact, I don't recall any evidence of the Barnes family reaching out to any number of the reputable 501c3 NFP's out there which assist the families of the missing. My only recollection is a brief appearance by Russell on NG and the Pea's interviews. DB declined the opportunity to appear on NG. My apologies, but I don't believe the Barnes are the best representation out there for these types of changes.

Still praying for an arrest/arrests in this case. I'm willing to be patient if it ensures conviction(s).

Cubby,
I am not sure if they were going by information given to them from a medical examiner or what. A couple of them were talking to me casually. Last week, a recently retired detective told me that an arrest was coming very soon on Phylicia's case. I asked him when but he just kept saying very soon. Hopefully they are not just saying this to get me off their backs.

I have a friend in the Harford County prosecutor's office that told me they know who did it, they are trying to gather more evidence/get people to talk before bringing charges.

After more than a year has passed, LE isn't going to find any more material evidence in the case. That means they are trying to get witnesses to cooperate and agree to testify, i.e. working on plea deals, IMO. My guess is DB and MJ's new GF are close to breaking. There has likely been a lot of intimidation and fear of self-incrimination holding them back.

We keep hearing that an arrest is imminent, but there still hasn't been even one and I'm sure that more than one arrest is forthcoming. Hoping it really is soon this time.

Article said case has been turned over to MD State police and continues to "baffle" detectives and they have run down all leads, including ridiculous ones...

Does not sound like an arrest is imminent to me...JMO

The full exerpt:

In the interview, Nicholson called the Barnes case "frustrating in that we've run out every lead, no matter how ridiculous or impossible it might seem." His biggest fear, he said at the time, is that "it's not going to be a happy ending."

BBM.

Kind of hard to take a portion of a statement made by LE prior to Phylicia's body being found and apply it to whether an arrest is imminent today.

I'm still confident LE knows exactly who did this and are still gathering enough evidence to ensure a conviction. I'm happy to be patient to wait until prosecutors feel their case is strong enough for a conviction. No point in makin arrests sooner.

Hopefully they won't murder some other girl in the meantime...
