Nobody deserves to be violated, attacked and murdered. He had no right to do this to Rachel or anyone. Rachel had every right to be on the trails that day and should have been left alone.
Cant wait until the evil a-hole coward is put away, never to kill anyone ever again. moo

His cousin, Jose Hernandez, testified through a Spanish interpreter to the courtroom.

Hernandez, of Temple Hills, says his cousin Victor lived with him for about five months before leaving abruptly in May 2024.

Authorities say that Jose produced home surveillance video of Victor wearing a flat brim hat, likely the same one he wore in the photos below that were released by the sheriff's department following his arrest:

The prosecution asked Jose if he had any contact with his cousin after he left, Jose testified that he did not, but said that Victor had "wrote him once" to ask for his cousin to buy him a ticket to Texas.

Jose testified that he declined to buy Victor that ticket.

Harford County Sheriff's Detective Michael Wilsynski said on June 13, 2024, he spoke with Martinez-Hernandez's aunt and cousins, who live in Temple Hills, Maryland, in Prince George's County.

He told the jury he handed over Martinez-Hernandez's Facebook information, where he went by the name Fernando Ismael, his phone number, and clothing he left behind before leaving the area.

Testimony revealed that Martinez-Hernandez worked at Popeyes and Barrett’s On The Pike in Bel Air. From both restaurants, the trail is about 1 mile away.

The former general manager of the Popeyes, Ana Trejo, said Martinez-Hernandez applied using the name Roberto Campos.

[...]

“We ended up finding him,” Delmont said, “sitting at the bar.”

Delmont testified that Martinez-Hernandez repeatedly told her that his name was Juan Carlos.

The pictures of Rachel’s stop at Target are sad to view. Within a short time she would be fighting for her life in a vicious, violent, attack. Horrifying to contemplate.

Former roommate Marcos Campos-Guevara testified he knew Martinez-Hernandez from El Salvador and helped him move into his cousin's place where he lived as well. They later moved to a house "near the park" believed to be Plumtree Park, which is less than a mile from the Ma and Pa trail.

“We haven’t heard anything about a vehicle, so his ability to walk to the Ma and Pa trail certainly establishes his ability to go there and ultimately commit this crime," Rice explained.

Campos-Guevara testified the defendant moved out suddenly around August, leaving only a written note after he failed to pay rent or any bills.

MORIN MURDER TRIAL DAY 8: The lead Harford County detective, Phil Golden, has retaken the witness stand. A video of him questioning Victor Martinez-Hernandez is playing in the courtroom. The suspect is wearing a striped prison jumpsuit and the interview is being done through a Spanish interpreter.

The suspect initially denied ever being in Maryland or knowing Rachel Morin. Golden pushes... questioning if there's any way he was in the state and didn't realize it. The suspect doubles down.

Golden then reveals a picture Martinez-Hernandez took with his cousin, Tania Hernandez, around Christmas time. Yesterday, his cousin testified that the suspect stayed with her and her husband at their home in Alexandria, VA. At first, the suspect denies knowing anything about the photo. It's only after further questioning that he admits it is a picture of him.

Throughout the interview, Golden repeatedly askes how/why Martinez-Hernandez's DNA was found at the crime scene. At one point, he even stresses, "No two people have the same DNA." The only explanation the suspect can provide is suggesting someone else might have planted it. "He didn’t know how it got there and if someone wanted to do him harm that they could have taken his DNA and put it somewhere," recalled Goldmen.

We still have no idea what DNA was found where. In an attempt to debunk the suspect's explanation without revealing this information yet, the state asks Golden, "Was the type of DNA something that could have been transported?""I guess it’s possible," Golden responds."Was it a physical object that could have been dropped?" asks the state. "No," he replies.

The lead investigator, Harford County Detective Phil Golden, has retaken the witness stand for direct examination.

Golden testified that he asked Martinez-Hernandez if he knew the name Rachel Morin.Martinez-Hernandez, he said, responded that he did not.

When detectives confronted Martinez-Hernandez with a selfie that he took with his cousin, Tania Hernandez, he said he did not know anything about it, Golden testified.Martinez-Hernandez, he said, also denied leaving property in Maryland.

Martinez-Hernandez eventually admitted that he was in the photo, Golden testified.

Next, Golden confronted Martinez-Hernandez with the DNA evidence.Martinez-Hernandez suggested that someone wishing him harm could've planted it.

Later, Golden said, he went to a home on East 15th Street where Martinez-Hernandez was living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

On June 20, 2024, Golden testified, he returned to Oklahoma to bring Martinez-Hernandez back to Maryland.

Law enforcement obtained a search and seizure warrant to collect a DNA sample from Martinez-Hernandez, Golden testified.

The audio from the interrogation video is muffled in the overflow room I'm live tweeting from. These might not be verbatim, but here is a list of additional questions I could hear Golden asking the suspect through his interpreter:

"So, at no time has he ever harmed a female?""He’s never murdered anyone?""And there’s no way his DNA could have been at the crime scene?"

The suspect says no to all of them.

"I haven’t done nothing wrong," says Martinez-Hernandez.

The detective then brings up the suspect's cousin, Jose Hernandez. Yesterday, his cousin testified that they lived together at his home in Temple Hills for about five months, until Martinez-Hernandez abruptly left in May of 2024.

The suspect claims that he had not contacted his cousin and never been to his home.

The suspect did confirm his address investigators tracked down in Oklahoma. I did a story on this info when we obtained the search warrant of his home last June:

Snippet from that report: "Following his arrest at a bar just down the street, Tulsa Police searched the residence intending to find knives and other deadly weapons. Instead, investigators found a laptop, sketchbook, and a driver’s registration from El Salvador, his alleged home country. They also found bus tickets and a metro card, seemingly from his many travels in the last year."

The defense notes that multiple people were living in that home in Tulsa. Seemingly, calling into question if the items obtained from a backpack truly belonged to the suspect. A hard sell considering an ID with his name on it was found.

The defense also emphasizes that the suspect appears "calm" and "not nervous" during the interrogation. Which, Golden agrees with.

The state then asks Golden to clarify if there were times the suspect appeared "more nervous" than others. "Yes, when we discussed DNA and when we discussed his relatives and if he was ever in Maryland," said Golden.

Golden says the nervous body language he observed was swaying, arm crossing, and drawing into himself.

A search warrant was ultimately obtained to swab the suspect's cheek for DNA, Golden testified.

Next witness -- Tiffany Keener, a forensic scientist with Maryland State Police. Keener says she received and tested DNA in "stages" and issued six separate reports on her findings.
