I’ve returned to Harford County Circuit Court, where the trial of Victor Martinez-Hernandez, 24, is set to resume. He’s charged with first-degree murder and related offenses in the killing of Rachel Morin, 37, on Aug. 5, 2023, on the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail in Bel Air.
The lead investigator, Harford County Detective Phil Golden, has retaken the witness stand for direct examination.
Golden testified that he asked Martinez-Hernandez if he knew the name Rachel Morin.Martinez-Hernandez, he said, responded that he did not.
When detectives confronted Martinez-Hernandez with a selfie that he took with his cousin, Tania Hernandez, he said he did not know anything about it, Golden testified.Martinez-Hernandez, he said, also denied leaving property in Maryland.
Martinez-Hernandez eventually admitted that he was in the photo, Golden testified.
Next, Golden confronted Martinez-Hernandez with the DNA evidence.Martinez-Hernandez suggested that someone wishing him harm could've planted it.
Later, Golden said, he went to a home on East 15th Street where Martinez-Hernandez was living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On June 20, 2024, Golden testified, he returned to Oklahoma to bring Martinez-Hernandez back to Maryland.
Law enforcement obtained a search and seizure warrant to collect a DNA sample from Martinez-Hernandez, Golden testified.
