I agree.

I posted a link on the page before this one. It's an article by his ex-wife. He was molesting his own daughter and social services did nothing. They said since their was no physical proof of molestation it would be hard to prove.

She was posting in hopes that there was other victims out there that would step up. Victims old enough that a court/police would take notice, so she could get protection for her own daughter.

The system as well as the caretakers let dear Sarah down. imo

Thanks for that link to the 2008 posting by his ex-wife. What's truly disturbing is the number of posts (at that time) from people who knew him / his family and were aware of his ongoing offenses and couldn't get the judicial system to act appropriately to protect the community. Yes there are cases where a natural parent kills or sexually abuses their child, but so many more it seems where the 'step" dad or boyfriend does

I think a LOT of these perverts target these desperate needy greedy women simply cause they do have kids....easy for them to pick them off and indulge their sick ways

this particular guy is soooo sick....so violent....his ex wife's blog...his record...wtf was he even doing out?? what about a 3 strikes you are out law?? do they have that in MD? If not...why not?

what about monitoring these creeps??? If they are found dating a woman with kids, violate their parole?? Aren't they supposed to have NO contact with minors??

What a horrible tragedy. I was following the search efforts all yesterday until I went to my neighbor's for Christmas dinner. When I got home, my prayers were half-answered -- Sarah was found, but deceased.

I echo Tricia's comments and the comments of all Sleuthers who are just outraged by these monsters who walk among us and by the women who fail to protect the children in their care. I am so upset, I can't say much more than "God bless this little girl and her sister who watched that monster lead her away to her death." As for Sarah's Aunt -- I hope all the children in her care are taken away. And for the predator who hurt and killed Sarah -- I hope justice for him is swift, painful and deadly -- he deserves no less.

Oftentimes, moms stand by feeling helpless cause they would lose their home, husband, and therefore, all monies to live on if they called and reported the slug.

I'm wondering if Sarah was targeted and why he went to the home rather than grabbing Sarah while walking home from school or from the places she plays at.

It's no secret tht child offenders have antennae for the most vulnerable single moms and the most vulnerable children - wonder why Sarah?

Is there anything that can happen to a child where the mother is not to blame? TIA

I don't know what it will take to keep these creeps in a cell. My father is a predator, designated as such, and he gets out next year. My sister threatened to castrate him if she hears of him touching a child...he said, "Go ahead, what will you do about my mouth and fingers?" This is how they think...this conversation was reported to the board, who could have extended his sentence, instead he still gets out in a year. The only upside is that when he molests again, my family is prepared to hand the victim's family everything they need to sue the monsters that let out the monster.

I guess that's what needs to be done...lots and lots of civil litigation until someone starts policing the people that hold the keys.

Are there any foundations set up that help a victims family prove and get compensation after the state wrongfully and willfully lets these creatures into society?
Aim for the pocketbook, it's the only way to win.

My wife works with this "woman"...let me tell you about her...

I met her - she's got a couple kids from a couple guys, no two from the same donor. I first met her a couple years ago, with her husband and kids. My daughter watched their kids a couple of times (at OUR house).

About two months ago his picture was in the paper, describing how he had been picked up as a sex offender violating parole by being around kids.

His wife - my wife's coworker - knew he was a sex offender. She knew this because she met him while he was in prison for statutory rape. He was the boyfriend of her best friend, and she was so captivated by this convicted child rapist that she stole him away from her friend and married him when he got out. She moved him in with her children from her previous relationships and had another child with him. Well, the oldest daughter had a friend spend the night, you can guess the rest:

Each state has some sort of agency, Child Protection Services, etc., we can visit Internet forums to learn deficiencies of such state run agency. In past few months, I have been checking them out and am outraged at the complaints posted. Maryland is REALLY high with complaints. We cannot rely on these agencies to protect our children. The judicial system has failed also.
We have a serious problem here.
There is a lot of federal and state allocated money designated to the care of children, it is obvious this system needs to be revamped and carefully looked into, continued handouts do not deter.
We trust these agencies to assist in the protection of our children, they have failed us miserably... where is the accountability?
In Sarah's case, how can you hand over this many kids to a single woman and not follow-up on the care? Whatever, reassign and close out the file! Pathetic!:furious:

Hi....I agree there are horrible stories of "natural parents"...and cases where "perfect looking" families in nice suburbs hide horrors

however....we would be putting our heads in the sand if we overlooked the fact that in recent years there is a veritable outburst of these sort of crimes, we are seeing (I think) clever predators who use the internet, dating services, and maybe dating clubs etc to find these vulnerable women

search thru the ads..."must love kids"....check out the myspaces....moms who post pics of themselves partying along with pics of their kids

it has made it too easy

again...if a women with several small kids, a lousy job, no money, average looks is suddenly woo'ed by some guy...I say "he is just NOT that into YOU...he may be into your kids"

1st offense with actual sex with a child.....50 years in prison, lifetime tracking

she was dead, murdered all the while...our state agency gave "custody" to her "grandmother"..who was not even related to her, a drug abusing lesbian with a violent relationship with her lover...unreal

the "Rilya's Law" you might see is named after little Rilya...social workers fudged their reports for several years, claiming to visit her while they were ? shopping, napping, drinking, who knows what?? watching soap operas and eating bon bons??

Our DCF was on the carpet..heads rolled....new rules and new leadership..and under the "new" leadership we have more of these insane case...and now it turns out that only a fraction of reported abuse cases even make it past the hotline operators due to "budget cuts"

yet our DCF and courts, that called Shannon Dedrick living in a messy trailer with 2 irresponsible/mentally ill people who smoked cigs and pot around her only at "intermediate risk"...

these same DCF visited other families that turned into tragedies

now they are wasting money and time "making a case plan" for the bio parents of Shannon...?? wth?? I am posting info on Florida because that is what I have "researched" more and follow...but it is just as bad if not worse in many other states

I don't think it's fair to judge the Aunt at this time. I don't really trust half the things the media says but from what I'm understanding thus far, the Aunt found out he was a RSO, but still at this point remember, he's only raped an older child, and he was 22 at that time? (I'll have to pull that link up again) and he has never murdered anyone. So from what I gathered she leaves him because of this. I'm also going to assume she knows something at this point. He allegedly comes back and steals the little girl and murders her because... he is mad at the aunt?

If this crime was her fault in any way, I think she would have had to not leave him when she knew he was an RSO and think he was capable of repeating the things he did. Does she know what he did exactly or was it his BS story she heard? I've heard many RSO's make up stories to sound like an accidental crime like (when I was 19 and I was dating a 17 year old and we were happy, her parent's turned us in).. That's way different then (I saw a young women on the street who looked pretty so I raped her). People can be naive. It is allowed. It's sad that being naive can kill a young child, but I don't think it's something to punish someone about. Because honestly everyone in this entire world is probably naive about something or other. And how many sex offenders are really going to say "im guilty" to someone they are with. I think they would rather twist the story any which way they can and claim they are innocent. I would blame her if she was neglectful and/or abusive. Things of her own fault, but I haven't heard barely enough to even know her name.

And so far this doesn't sound like a rape, it sounds like a cold blooded murder.

I would rather sympathize with the Aunt until I know facts about the case. The Aunt lost this beautiful child before we did. She has to suffer from her poor choices that I believe that most anyone could have made the same.

I also hear so much emphasis that if they are an RSO, check their background, etc.. but really there are many predators who aren't registered. Who have never even been caught. It doesn't matter if it's a boyfriend, a friend, a husband, a wife, a girlfriend, an acquaintance ... any of these categories are capable of having a murderer, a rapist, an abuser in them. It's not always just a quick background check or a rso check to see if they are safe people. We just have to stay aware and watch and learn the people who are around us. If they show any abusive signs, or red flags, then it's time to really rethink your situation with them.

I know that someday in my life, I could make a mistake that could cause serious harm to myself or my child. I'm not going to blame others for making a mistake. I'm going to do everything I can do to not make my own mistakes and just pray that others will do the same.

Sadly I have experience with Fl DCF, about 10 yrs ago my niece was taken from my druggie sister. She was fostered out to people who just wanted a check. You would not believe the fight and money my parents and my husband and I had to go through to get custody of her.The only thing that really helped us was the fact that my parents were, at the time,part-time residents of Fl. We lived in Ga at the time.
No one tried to notify ANY of her family,just threw her into the first place they could. It was not until WE started looking for her that we discovered all of this had gone on. My niece is now a happy and healthy almost 12 year old who blended right in. She was one of the lucky few IMHO

eyesforcrime, let me add my two cents worth. You are right in thinking that our judicial system needs to be better, I agree with that, but in all things the buck stops with us. Her aunt, who was her guardian should have been wise enough to protect her and any child in her custody. If I dated someone I knew had raped and killed and then a month later they take my child and rape and kill her, I was the one who had the power to prevent that regardless of what the state had decreed as punishement previously. I just think the Aunt had the power to protect this child and she unwisely put her foolish needs ahead of the safety of the child. Her aunt is an idiot, should idots be held accountable for bad decisions that results in a death of an innocent. I think they should, afterall if you break the law, it doesn't matter that you did not know the law existed. A certain level of critical thinking should be required before anyone has the responsibility of a child. I am sick of these woman , some form of punishment should be exacted for stupidity.

I've seen a common thread among these cases, over and over. The SO having access to the child. There was another case just last month in Baltimore where a boy was raped and murdered by a sex offender who had just been released a month or so ago. (Jason Matthison). Year before that, another case where a young boy was being allowed to hang out with a sex offender, who murdered him. (Irwin Harris). Believe the mother in that case was charged with neglect at least.

No one ever thinks these things will happen, but the truth is they do. There are cases where it appears it could have been prevented by an ounce of prevention, such as this one. Samantha Runnion was 5 and legally was not allowed to be outside by herself with another child, not to mention behind a garage where no one could see her, but she was. Adam Walsh was left alone in a store aisle. Haleigh disappeared when left in the hands of an immature 17 year old who wasn't even home. Even yesterday, there was a 5-year-old outside by herself with a 7 and 9 year old and was snatched.

Others were safe in their homes and snatched. Polly Klass, Elizabeth Smart, Danielle Van Dam, etc. Which shows if a sex offender wants a child, they will get it.

Personally, I think there needs to be some programs brought forth that go into lower-income areas and teach women about sex offenders. Quite often, it is lonely single parents who are involved in these stories.

Another thing you'll find in these cases are a half dozen people who know about the situation and don't say a word. Any one at any time could have notified the Sheriff's office that she was dating a sex offender, but appears not one person did. I posted last night about cyberly-knowing that a 28 yo man was sleeping with a 14 yo, and no one thought it was a problem. That young girl is now 27 and has 7 kids by 4 different men. And has a 12 year old daughter, which frankly, scares me that she might think it's okay for her daughter to be dating 20 year olds right now.

Seems to me that we have no idea how to fix the system - and as I read all the comments on what to do, one thought comes to mind:

Those who think the aunt should be charged with neglect resulting in homicide, or have the children taken away, would be better off writing a letter to that effect to the defense attorney who will be representing this monster. I would also include formal letters to the judge so sentences can be doled out appropriately. For those who think both should be punished, write to each the prosecuter, judge and defense attorney and DCFS.

For those who want full responsibility to go to the predator - write the judge and prosecuting attorney. Until we can change the system, that's the best I can suggest...not much I know. mho

The above was suggested because I find it personally offensive to call women 'pea brains', 'selfish' and all the other pejorative terminology used thus far. I also find it offensive for others to tell single moms what they should be thinking, how they should act, and if they don't listen, threaten them with sterilization.

How did we ever get to the point where blaming and fixing mom takes precedence over making the predator responsible. Is everything that happens to a child moms fault??? just my opinions

Right now, the ONLY way we can protect our children is to lock up high risk sex offenders for life. That's it. There is no other solution.

Rights. What about the rights of children to live in a safe society.

I'm not talking about the guy who takes a leak in public or the guy who has sex when he is 18 with a 16 year old. I am talking about the guys like Adnoid's wife's co-worker and the pervert in this case.

I do believe drugs are a part of the problem but do we chance it and let a guy out of prison because he did these atrocious acts while high on drugs? I don't think so. We can't chance it.
