Well at least her family now has some closure.

It hasn't been confirmed to be Anneliese yet. They will do an autopsy in Augusta and hopefully there will be answers.

So sad! It's so close to where she went missing I can't believe they wouldn't have stumbled across that area with all the searches they did back during the time she went missing. If it is Anneliese which is likely I am hopeful the family will get a little bit of closure.

Family, police wait for confirmation on identity of remains found in Falmouth

While the identity of the human remains found Sunday in Falmouth is not likely to be established for several weeks, family members of a missing Richmond woman released a statement Tuesday indicating they believe that Anneliese Heinig has been found.

There is a good map of the search area but I can't pinpoint where they found the body.
This has gotta be tough on her kids.

I could be mistaken, but I thought I read somewhere that the remains were found between mile marker 9.5 and 10 on 295 northbound. I took a drive in both directions yesterday and recorded videos. The files are too large to upload to WS, so here are the YouTube links for anyone who would like a lay of the land. The footage is a little rough as I was driving by myself and recording.

News Release
FALMOUTH, Maine – The Falmouth Police Department, in collaboration with its state and local partners at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Maine State Police, Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Warden Service, and Richmond Police Department, have recovered and positively identified the skeletal remains of 37-year-old Anneliese Heinig, who was reported missing from Richmond, Maine on Thanksgiving Day 2019.
A portion of Heinig’s remains were located by a kayaker in a tidal area along the Presumpscot River near Interstate 295 on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Falmouth Police and Crime Scene Investigators from the Maine State Police recovered additional remains late that afternoon before the tidal flow forced the search to be suspended. Investigators returned on Monday, September 13, 2021 with cadaver dogs and evidence technicians to continue searching and processing this area. Police were able to locate further evidence and human remains that helped lead to the positive identification.
Heinig was reported missing 22 months ago after her vehicle was found abandoned on I-295 in Falmouth. Heinig was last seen walking away from her parked SUV in the morning hours of November 26, 2019. Multiple searches of the Presumpscot River were conducted in the days following Heinig’s disappearance, including the utilization of various dive teams,
sonar, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), and K9 resources. Investigators do not consider Heinig’s death suspicious."
