Lots of people working outside in the cold to try to find this child...at least one adult knows where she is, IMO...

--i've seen it referenced in a few posts that the father JD has lawyered-up-----does anyone have a link to that info?

--Search For Missing Waterville Toddler LIVE Wire--

State police, warden service, fire and rescue and others maintain presence at 29 Violette Avenue, the home of Ayla Reynolds where she was reported missing on Saturday.

While still focusing on areas close to Violette Avenue (Messalonskee Stream), the search area has clearly expanded today.

I believe the WS member who first posted the information about the father lawyering up came back and recanted. Apparently she misunderstood a statement on one of the HLN shows last night.

snippets from : http://www.wmtw.com/news/30037097/detail.html#ixzz1h5cUwtIs

Earlier in the morning, wardens searched Dumpsters outside a fitness/nightclub and hotel.
...

I know LE has to look at all possibilities ... including searching through dumpsters ...

BUT ... this tells me LE does NOT believe Ayla just wandered off ...

JMO ... but I believe that LE knows what happened to this poor little baby ... and it is not looking good ...:furious:

MOO ...

They go where the tips lead them. If they got tips of a sighting of a live Ayla, they would check that as well.

I thought maybe we could tag this on a map or something. Not that I know how to do that.

Here's Pensfan's post explaining the "father lawyering up":

Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - ME ME - Ayla Reynolds, 20 mnths, Waterville, 17 December 2011

JVM's show posted the transcript within the last hour, so I read through it and it doesn't specifically state that the dad has actually chosen an attorney. She stated that the attorney for the dad is welcome on her show. I apologize. Please accept my apology.

ETA: I see PJD is more quick on the draw than I am!!!

Let me see if I have this straight: Ayla's mother went into rehab and left Ayla with her sister and mother. DHS them caught wind of that, and removed Ayla from them and placed her with her father. And then, disappeared? There has been no word that there were still regular welfare checks or even an open case. This is a bit odd to me, and way outside the norm.

Then there is the issue of the other child...where was he? id she place him with someone else?

My experience with CPS is that if a custodial parent has to make a choice as to who to leave the child with for any reason, even if CPS does investigate, they will only take the child if the situation were bad enough to warrant a removal under any circumstances. Otherwise, if the child is safe, happy, and cared for, they will often consider that placement an extension of the custodial parent's home, since the parent made that choice. If there is another bio parent in the picture telling CPS that they want their child, that can change the outcome, but CPS will not go hunt down a parent, just to take a kid out of another situation. Usually, they will remove if necessary, then try to locate a family placement, but in my experience, they don't look very hard.

So, what I'm getting from this is that when she went to rehab, she sent her kids to two different places. Ayla's placement wasn't good enough for CPS, but the baby's was. I've seen a million times where parents know that CPS is going to knock on their door any time, so they pick the friend with the most money and the cleanest house, and they sign over guardianship. technically, CPS has no recourse. The child is taken care of, while still in the custody of the parent, but not in their care. So, yes, I think there did have to be something wrong with the aunt and grandmother's care.

The only other option is that DHS spoke to her after she entered rehab, and said, We don't want to take this to court, and start that cycle, but we don't like the arrangement, we would prefer if she was with her father. That is the only way I can see both parts of this story being true. And it doesn't explain what happened in regars to the baby.

Were the grandmother and aunt actually in the house that entire night? It seems like that house is too small that everyone in the house wouldn't have been aware of what
everyone else was doing.

Last night on WS, the mom said that Ayla's dad decided to take Ayla while mom was in rehab. If there isn't a custody agreement, I think he can do that without a lot of fuss. Right?

ETA: She said the dad had no interest in Ayla until now, IIRC.

I cannot hep but wander if there is a Casey effect with all these cases, that is, since Casey got off we have had at least 2 high profile missing baby cases in just 6 months whereas I cannot remember before that when I heard of a baby going missing in the night. What are the chances, 2 babies same story in just a few months!

Did the Casey case educate people on reasonable doubt (the wrong way unfortunately as Pinellas 12 applied the wrong standard) so that people think that they can hide a baby somewhere and there will always be reasonable doubt? The Casey case tells people that even if you hide a dead baby there is still reasonable doubt because it "could have been" an accident, even if the mother goes out partying, etc. bc lying and hiding a body is not enough to show murder. People hide bodies when there are accidents too, it is believed.

Even in this case and Lisa's case, suppose God forbid, they find the children harmed, the perpetuators could still try to get off w the Casey defense. Hopefully they would get a good jury but if they got people like Casey's how would they ever show it was not an accident (especially if there is not a preserved body) since apparently some juries think hiding a body is not enough to show murder

And if they never find the child they WILL get off!

That would completely depend on the custodial laws of ME. I'm not that good with each states custody laws. In MI, no custody arrangement means that the mother has sole custody from the moment of birth until the father goes to court to get visitation. In MI, unless the mother has given him permission, he isn't going anywhere with the child.

I find it hard to believe that he had no interest in her until now, because it is not as easy as just driving up and picking up your kids for a couple months. He had to have some kind of interest. I'm not bashing the mother, I think she's just trying to make herself look better in all this. She probably feels guilty herself, even if she had nothing to do with this.
