CASCO, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating the discovery of human remains in Casco over the weekend.

According to a release from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit — South, the skeletal remains were found near a home at 196 Poland Springs Road Saturday afternoon.

Police said a family member was cleaning out the home of their late father— Douglas Scott, 82, who died earlier this year—when the remains were found in an outbuilding on the property.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was not a case of foul play, but a person who was homeless or vulnerable in other ways taking refuge/shelter in the outbuilding. I'm sure we'll know more when they release more information, but I've seen comments from people on other websites jumping to conclusions...

Family searching for sister find skeletal remains in Casco home

One of his sons filed an "affidavit of diligent search," a document used in probate cases stating his sister, Denise Scott Ramsey's "whereabouts are unknown."

The documents list her last known address as 196 Poland Spring Rd. in Casco. That is where police say family members were cleaning out Scott Sr.'s house Saturday when they made the gruesome discovery of human remains found in a shed.

The court filings also revealed the family had published a notice in the newspaper giving their sister ample time to respond before the estate process could move forward. The ad refers to Denise "R" as a "missing person."

Could the skeletal remains be Denise Scott Ramsey herself....?

Hmmmm. And now I'm wondering if the Dad (the 82 year old who died) knew she was there....

How could she have lived there without him knowing..?!

And yet the brother thought she was a missing person....??

I wonder if she was being held against her will in the outbuilding by her father?!

Well, this is an interesting case. I shall be following.

Skeletal remains discovered in a Maine shed could hold key to solving mystery involving missing woman - The Boston Globe

The recent discovery of skeletal remains inside a shed in Casco, Maine, could be the break that solves the mystery of a woman’s disappearance.

“We can’t confirm Denise Scott Ramsey was last seen at the house… just that we are aware that there is a missing person’s report and we are working with the family regarding that information,” Moss said in an e-mail to the Globe.

Maine State Police said the chief medical examiner’s office began a post-mortem examination on the remains on May 9, and the investigation will continue as they work to identify the remains.

“At this point we are waiting on additional testing and DNA exams from the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office to come back and that could take several weeks or even longer,” Moss said.

Wow. Denise has two FB profiles. She mentions she has four grandchildren as well.

What could have gone on there?

Interestingly, it looks like she's only been missing a little over a year based on when her facebook posts end. I suppose if the conditions are right, a body could be skeletal in that time.

Forensic anthropologist helps police investigate bones found in Casco shed

Maine State Police detectives continue to investigate the recent discovery of skeletal remains in Casco, a process that includes a forensic anthropologist who could help uncover clues about the person’s identity and cause and manner of death.

It could be weeks before investigators have more information to release, according to Shannon Moss, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Detectives are interviewing Scott’s family members and others who might have information related to the case. Detectives are also waiting on the results of DNA tests, she said.

Not victim blaming but what if the remains were placed there by Denise and that's why she's missing.
I guess it's as likely as anything else at this point.

Daughter of missing Maine woman still waiting for answers after body found in Casco

"This is taking so long,” McNaughton said. “And I'm getting so very little answers."

Fifty-three-year-old Denise Scott had been living with her elderly father in Casco.
"They did not have a good relationship," McNaughton said.
Danielle McNaughton says she's frustrated because she's still waiting on DNA testing to confirm it's her mother.

"The medical examiner hasn't told me anything,” McNaughton said. “They don't really have anything."

There has not been a positive ID or a cause of death.

"It's very clear that it's my mom because she's the only one missing,” McNaughton said. “She would not just abandon me or my kids. She never would."

Well, it's worrying that they didn't have a good relationship and makes me even more suspicious of him.....
