Measles: To Disneyland and Beyond

Safety peer reviewed research? Doesn't work that way. What we would be talking about is more like meta-analysis of multiple studies looking at multiple factors known and suspected. There are studies that have established for instance the rate of disease in immunized vs non-immunized populations. As specific concerns have arisen--such as the purported autism link, there have been studies examining the rates of autism in immunized vs non-immunized populations. And then there is a balancing act. Are the stats regarding overall risk higher in populations that experience the disease, or populations that experience the immunization. No--I have not attempted to replicate the work of the CDC and others in this matter--I scarcely consider myself qualified. But apparently many who have chosen not to vaccinate do consider themselves more highly qualified than the CDC (not to mention other groups both nationally and internationally).

You mean like the one Thorsen made up and is the source for several reviews since then?

I think one adult who doesn't work at KinderCare exposed all those babies. What an incredibly irresponsible thing to do. They should be prosecuted.

For what?
What about people who pass the flu around?
What about the common cold?
Why only the measles?

New Mexico schools organizing unvaccinated kids:

"New Mexico schools are telling parents to get their kids vaccinated against measles by next week, or take them home.

Students in Santa Fe have until February 17 to provide proof of immunization or an exemption on medical or religious grounds if they want to remain in the public schools. In Albuquerque, the deadline is February 20.

“Students who don’t meet this deadline won’t be allowed to return to school until proof is provided,” the Albuquerque school system said in a statement posted on its website. Letters were sent home with students whose shot records are out-of-date."

Criminal exposure of a potentially deadly virus. It happened during the AIDS epidemic and it could happen again.

Yep and more states will be doing the same thing, imo.

Everything is potentially deadly - you're going down a very slippery slope with this idea, tell me more how you decide who should be charged.

Hiandmighty, the problem with stories like that is that the only people they move are like minded individuals. The anti-vaxxers have made their viewpoints perfectly clear: the vulnerable and the young are not their responsibility, not their problem, and basically it sucks to be you.

BBM. Which is precisely why the "measles parties" are not just about fun and fevers, but demonstrate appallingly reckless behavior. It's the whole "reckless IDGAF about anyone else" part of this that will spur prosecution, and new laws IMO. Education clearly isn't working, so that's one of the next steps, IMO.

As I said before, another potential strategy, besides excluding the unvaccinated from daycares and public schools, is to take measures to severely limit the travel possibilities of people who "choose" not to vaccinate. Make proof of vaccination a legal requirement for all types of driver licenses, passports, and purchase of plane tickets, leaving exemptions for valid medical deferments.

Somehow, we have to get the attention of these reckless people and persuade them to change their behavior. It isn't, and shouldn't be, a lawful "choice" to intentionally spread diseases that can permanently harm or kill other people.

So lifelong booster shots to continue with vaccinations that are supposed to provide immunity?

You give me the impression you have done no actual research and are just repeating misinformation. Where did you ever get the idea that any single does of MMR provides lifelong immunity?

Most vaccines do require at least one additional booster. And that includes Tetanus, which you said you were considering.

I don't decide just as I didn't decide during other epidemics but I think it is a marvelous idea.

I agree with the traveling part whether by train or airline or ship. Vaccination records should be required to purchase a ticket.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I get my hair colored every few weeks. It takes a hell of a lot longer to do than getting one booster shot every ten years, it's a lot more expensive, and I'll probably find out it's lots more "toxic."
