UPDATED: Bombshell Revelation In Casey Case A Bust
Posted: 3:51 pm EDT April 7, 2010
Updated: 6:24 pm EDT April 7, 2010
<snipped>
Of the more than 800 pages of letters and documents released, page eight and nine hold the most explosive statements that are sure to be looked at very closely by both prosecutors and Casey's defense. They’re not buried in the pages and pages of Casey's own letters, but instead statements made by Casey's pen pal, Robyn Adams, to investigators that could be the most explosive part of the new information. “The best part of this witness testimony and the most damning is apparently confided to her by Casey Anthony,” WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said.

Sheaffer says prosecutors will say the letters show Casey confided in Adams and her statements are believable, but it may not be the bombshell that will make the case. The defense will attack Adams on the stand. “As a convicted felon, she will have credibility problems right out of the gate,” Sheaffer said.

Still, prosecutors will likely take the chance and put Adams on the stand, as long as they believe she's telling the truth.

“I would be very surprised if they did not polygraph Ms. Adams,” Sheaffer said.

JUDGE SAYS DEFENSE CAN'T HAVE TAPED INTERVIEW
Orange County Judge Stan Strickland ruled Wednesday that Casey's defense team cannot have a taped interview of a volunteer who searched for Caylee.

Casey's lawyers had asked the judge for access to an illegally-made recording by Joe Jordan, a volunteer with Texas EquuSearch. Jordan secretly taped a conversation with his lawyer, but later turned it over to detectives.

The judge ruled the defense can use a statement from Jordan, but said the tape is off limits.

Casey Anthony's Handwriting Reveals Immaturity
Handwriting Analyst Examines Jailhouse Letters

POSTED: 4:07 pm EDT April 7, 2010
UPDATED: 4:29 pm EDT April 7, 2010
<snipped>
Sally Elliott, a forensic expert, was interviewed by phone and pointed out that Anthony's letters are all the same height.

"That's mundane writing. It's all in the middle zone. She doesn't have very much in the upper or the lower," Elliott said.

Elliott said as a person matures, their letter heights begin to vary, and some pen strokes clearly reach upward. That indicates maturity, as well as the development of morals and character.

But Elliott said Anthony's handwriting indicates an immature personality and someone who's ego-centric.

"Her main problem is immaturity. Just like any child, she's thinking of herself and doing what she wants to do," Elliott said. "(If) she wants to do something, she's going to do it. She's willful."

A handwriting analyst says Casey Anthony's pen strokes reveal immaturity.

Inmate: Anthony 'Scared' When Caylee Was Found
Attorney Says Anthony's Actions Amount To Nonverbal Confession

POSTED: 1:52 pm EDT April 7, 2010
UPDATED: 5:18 pm EDT April 7, 2010
<snipped>
Adams told a detective with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement her opinion of Anthony changed in light of two episodes.

Adams said Anthony giggled and seemed to know right away that a report about a bag of bones being found at Blanchard Park wouldn't be connected to Caylee's disappearance. But within a day or so of remains being found on Suburban Drive, Anthony told Adams the remains of a child were found with a baby blanket inside a black garbage bag. The statement was made before Caylee was positively identified. Adams said it was the only time she saw Anthony depressed and very scared.

"Clearly, the lynch pin in this is the details about the blanket and the black bag -- the elements law enforcement didn't release right away," Orlando attorney Richard Hornsby said.

Hornsby said Anthony's biggest mistake in her friendship with Adams was letting those details slip and showing such an extreme reaction to the discovery before the remains were identified.

"Her nonverbal actions are basically the admission to the fact that she knew that was where Caylee's body was," Hornsby said.

Hornsby said those actions corroborate a jail video made of Anthony watching news coverage on Dec. 11, 2008, when she was apparently overcome with anxiety at the discovery. The video has never been made public.

UPDATED: Casey’s Pen Pal Could Get Reduced Sentence
Posted: 5:12 pm EDT April 7, 2010
Updated: 6:24 pm EDT April 7, 2010
<snipped>
Casey Anthony's letters are the biggest development yet in the case against her. The inmate she wrote to, Robyn Adams, still has seven years to serve in a federal prison for a drug and weapons conviction. Instead of flushing Casey's letters as she promised, Adams mailed them to a friend for safekeeping on the chance they could clear Casey's name or convict her, or even help out Adams herself.

The letters could be Adams' ticket out of prison. Maybe not right away, but her attorney could use the letters and cooperation with prosecutors in Casey Anthony's case to try to get time off her sentence.

In Adams' letters, she reveals details about a seemingly depressed Casey, who was losing it behind bars and “crying all the time.” In one letter written more than a year ago, Adams even predicted Casey "will break down and talk." But, to this day, Casey hasn't.

Even though Adams and Casey agreed to flush the letters down the toilet, Adams seems to have kept them for a reason, saying in one letter "they might hold some value in the future."

But did she blow her chance to use them? WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer doesn’t think so. “Just handing over letters and saying, ‘I’m handing them over, I want something in return,’ at this juncture, just doesn't fly in the federal system,” Sheaffer said.

“Since this substantial assistance is in the prosecution of a murder case, I would expect a substantial reduction in Adam's sentence by federal court,” Sheaffer said.

Casey Anthony: What will inmate’s comments about Casey Anthony mean to murder case?
posted by halboedeker on April, 7 2010 5:35 PM
<snipped>
Casey Anthony’s reactions to another jail inmate amount to “a nonverbal confession,” a legal analyst for WESH-Channel 2 said this afternoon.

“Clearly the linchpin in this is the details about the blanket … the elements that law enforcement didn’t release right away,” Orlando attorney Richard Hornsby, an analyst for WESH.

Casey’s reaction to the remains are telling, Hornsby told WESH’s Bob Kealing. “Her nonverbal actions are basically the admission to the fact that she knew that’s where Casey’s body was,” Hornsby said.

WKMG-Channel 6’s Mike DeForest explained how corrections officer Silvia Hernandez allowed the two women to talk through a slit in Anthony’s cell door, against jail rules, and once even let Anthony cut Adams’ hair. Hernandez has been put on paid leave while the jail conducts an investigation.

DeForest highlighted a passage in Anthony’s letters in which she says defense attorney Jose Baez passed letters between her and her family, which would be against jail rules.

A defense spokeswoman told DeForest they could not comment because the team has been overwhelmed with requests.

Casey Anthony’s jailhouse letter friendship started with a wave
6:09 p.m. EDT, April 7, 2010
<snipped>
Their relationship started as a simple one. Two isolated women, desperate for some type of communication with another, exchanged a wave, a handle signal. But in the months that Casey Anthony and Robyn Adams both spent in the Orange County Jail, a friendship developed, one that involved secret, hours-long chats and extensive letter writing.

When the remains of Anthony's 2-year-old daughter Caylee Marie were found in woods near the family's east Orange County home in December 2008, Adams shared a private moment with her friend through a food slot in Anthony's cell door: "I was holding her hand and she was crying . . . You could tell that she had been crying for a long time," Adams recalled during an interview with state investigators last month. "I told her that I would always be here for her, that I would always be praying for her."

Adams told investigators she first initiated communication with Anthony, but Anthony wrote the first letter. The letter-writing began when Anthony left a note for Adams inside a book. Adams said she looked through a window and saw Anthony hold up a book, point at her, and leave the book on the book cart.

They exchanged notes sometimes every-other-day through the same hardback book, "Do Away With August," Adams said.

Eventually, corrections officer Silvia Hernandez permitted Adams go up to Anthony's window and talk to her through the glass, Adams said. At some point, Adams said, she asked Hernandez if she could talk to Anthony through the "bean hole" —the slot in the door where food trays are passed. The two new friends talked just about every night Hernandez worked. "We would talk and we would talk for hours," she said. And Adams said she was once allowed to be in the dorm with Anthony alone.

Adams told the FDLE agents that Anthony was "very scared" when Caylee's remains were found. "The Casey that I know and I got to know is different . . . then [sic] her party pictures," Adams told them. "People calling her a baby-killer from in the jail and the media just surrounding her family and saying all these horrible things . . . that's not the person I knew."

Could Casey Anthony's letters come back to haunt her
Updated: Wednesday, 07 Apr 2010, 7:09 PM EDT
Published : Wednesday, 07 Apr 2010, 7:09 PM EDT
<snipped>
Could a relationship that Casey Anthony formed with former fellow Orange County Inmate Robyn Adams come back to haunt her? Letters between Casey Anthony and Adams, who is not in federal prison after being convicted of drug charges, show the pair became friends in October of 2008. That's when Anthony was arrested for the final time. She's been locked up ever since.

Adams tells investigators that two big days in the search for Caylee stuck out in her pen pal's mind. First, was the day bounty hunter Leonard Padilla and a crew of divers found bones at the bottom of the Little Econ River at Blanchard Park in Orange County. That night, Robyn Adams tells investigators that she spoke with Casey who said, "Its not my daughter. She kind of giggled, in just... not in like an evil way, she just kind of like... it's not my kid," recalling her conversation with Casey Anthony.

That search was November 13, 2008. Less than a month later, on December 11, the jail chaplain told Casey that bones had been found on Suburban Drive near her parents house. She told investigators that this time Casey was different. "She was crying. She was very scared." According to Adams, Casey gave a lot of details. She says Casey Anthony told her, "they found the remains... in a bag, it was a black bag... garbage bag. There was a baby blanket."

So what does this mean? That could depend on how much credibility investigators and prosecutors give to Adams' time line of events.

Judge hands defense another setback
Orange County Judge Stan has ruled that Casey's attorneys will not have access to a taped interview, recorded by a Texas Equusearch volunteer who searched for Caylee Marie Anthony. Joe Jordon illegally recorded a conversation which he had with a defense investigator. In Florida, it is against the law to record someone without their knowledge.

UPDATED: Details Of Anthony Jail Friendship Surface
Inmate Alleges Anthony Briefly Given Pair Of Scissors

POSTED: Wednesday, April 7, 2010
UPDATED: 9:09 am EDT April 8, 2010
<snipped>
Was Casey Anthony allowed to spend the night with another inmate? And was she given a pair of scissors behind bars?

Using a hand-drawn map of the Orange County Jail's women's dorm, inmate Robyn Adams showed investigators where she was housed -- in cell 19 upstairs. She said Casey Anthony was locked up downstairs in cell 12.

At first, the two women would communicate with each other with flashed hand signals across a room, Adams said. But when corrections officers caught on, Adams was moved to a different cell so the two inmates could no longer see each other, Adams said. That's when Anthony first started writing letters, which she would stuff between the pages of a book titled, "Let's Do Away With August," Adams said.

Meanwhile, new allegations are surfacing that Anthony attorney Jose Baez also broke jail rules by secretly passing messages to his client.

In her letters, Casey Anthony wrote, "My attorney is keeping tabs on my family for me, and exchanging letters between us." In another letter, Anthony claims her attorney is trying to "smuggle" in some word search puzzles. Baez has declined comment since the letters were released. Outside the attorney's entrance at the jail, a sign clearly states that "Attorneys are not authorized to convey to an inmate any written communication of a personal nature."

Prosecutors will get the transcript of an August hearing where one of Casey Anthony's former defense attorneys proclaimed her innocence in court, records released today show.

Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland granted Assistant State Attorney Linda Drane Burdick the order for the transcript.

Todd Macaluso, a former member of Anthony's defense team, announced in an Aug. 21 court hearing that "the body or remains of Caylee Anthony were placed there after Anthony was locked up in the Orange County facility."

FOX 35 attempts to track down jail guard in Anthony case
Updated: Thursday, 08 Apr 2010, 4:22 PM EDT
Published : Thursday, 08 Apr 2010, 4:22 PM EDT

Adams told investigators that, on one occasion, Hernandez even allowed her to go inside Casey’s cell for a visit. Hernandez denies that, but she did say that, with a supervisor’s permission, she allowed Casey Anthony to cut Adams’ bangs.

In an investigative summary, an FDLE special agent wrote, "it is the opinion of this author that Hernandez was less than truthful in this interview," noting that Hernandez provided several "inconsistent statements."

A FOX 35 news crew received an explosive response from a woman believed to be Hernandez when we went digging for answers at Hernandez's home. "You have three seconds to get off my property!" yelled a woman behind a door.

Officer Hernandez has been relieved from her duty, with pay, and is being administratively transferred to a day shift. Although the reasons have not been released, we do know that she had been assigned to the female detention center before being moved to booking and release.

Hernandez has been employed by the Department of Corrections since January of 2008.

UPDATED: Casey Anthony case: Who would a jury believe?
11:07 a.m. EDT, April 9, 2010
<snipped>
Who would be more credible: A corrections officer who was entrusted with guarding Orange County's imprisoned, or the wife of an ex-cop now serving time for drug dealing?

If prosecutors decide to use testimony from either Silvia Hernandez or Robyn Adams in the first-degree murder case against Casey Anthony, jurors may have to decide.

Adams — the wife of a former Altamonte Springs officer — told state investigators that she became friends with both Hernandez and Anthony while she was incarcerated at the county jail. And, as Adams tells it, her relationship with Anthony was partly facilitated by Hernandez, who Adams said permitted the two protective-custody inmates to talk. Their talks violated jail policy.

Adams said she was allowed to hold Anthony's hand through a food slot in her jail cell and consoled her shortly after 2-year-old Caylee's remains were found. But that's now how 38-year-old Hernandez recalled it when she was interviewed about how Anthony and Adams were able to exchange letters by placing them in and removing them from the same book.

The corrections officer told agents she could relate with Adams because they are both mothers. Hernandez said she tried to help Adams, who cried often, deal with her depression. "She got the bad deal or the bad end of the deal . . . she is a good person you know, she's not a bad person," Hernandez said.

Casey Anthony: Judge grants prosecution’s request for transcript of hearing; corrections officer tells reporter to get lost
posted by halboedeker on April, 8 2010 6:47 PM

WESH-Channel 2 anchor Jason Guy said the August hearing was among the more memorable ones in the case. “At that time, the defense also announced they were waiving their claim that the group Texas EquuSearch was acting as a so-called agent of the state,” Guy said. “This week [defense attorney] Jose Baez appeared to contradict that position and use it in his argument to gain access to records from the volunteer search group.”

So what does corrections officer Silvia Hernandez have to say? Robyn Adams, a former inmate at the Orange County Jail, has said that she befriended Anthony with help from Hernandez.

It’s perhaps a rare look inside the mind of Casey Anthony, as interpreted by a jail pen pal.

FOX 35 has obtained audio recordings in which inmate Robyn Adams talks to family and friends from behind bars about Anthony and conversations with the 24 year old accused of murdering her daughter, Caylee Marie.

There are roughly 800 calls recorded between Adams and others, dating back to July of 2008. It's what happened after Casey Anthony was booked in the orange county jail that will have you talking.

Casey Anthony's pen pal at the Orange County Jail talked about the friendship in recorded jail phone calls, a news Web site is reporting.

Adams told a friend that on Dec. 11, 2008 — the day that Caylee Anthony's remains were found near the Anthony family home — that Casey Anthony was "very scared" that day.

"She doesn't seem to be looking good," Adams says in one recording in a conversation with another woman. "I'm praying for her every day."

Adams made about 800 recorded calls from the jail while she was there.

UPDATED: Phone Calls From Anthony Pen Pal Released
Robyn Adams Discusses Anthony With Her Father

POSTED: 11:41 am EDT April 9, 2010
UPDATED: 4:50 pm EDT April 9, 2010
<snipped>
The calls released are between Adams and her father, and Adams talked about the Anthony letters. In a phone call, you hear him coaching her about what's called substantial assistance. As a federal prisoner, if you help the government, you can apply to have your sentence reduced. Adams is serving 10 years for trafficking marijuana.

•Adams' Father: You may be eligible for substantial assistance.
•Adams: Yes, but I think it's a safety valve.
•Adams' Father: Substantial Assistance is what you need to get.
•Adams: Keep praying for it, Daddy.

Defense attorney Richard Hornsby said the FDLE should have examined the calls before declaring Adams and her information about Anthony as credible. "Those jail calls, it undermines their credibility saying Adams is a credible witness," Hornsby said.

A representative for the FDLE said the agency was only responding to a request by prosecutors. "We were asked by the state attorney's office to interview Robyn in reference to the letters. We completed the request and forwarded the results to the state attorney's office. That was our involvement," a statement said.

Hornsby said the calls could help Anthony's defense find inconsistencies in Adams' statements in their quest to get her statements to law enforcement thrown out. "The real question is did she in fact have the opportunity to view Casey to see how she was reacting," Hornsby said.

I have all the jail calls for Adams, Benhaida, and Derkovic and now I need your help.

I need people to listen to the calls and then give a BRIEF synopsis of what each call contains.

There is 1 CD for Cecelia Benhaida who was incarcerated under the name Cecelia Holloway.

There is 1 CD for Maya Derkovic which is mostly in a language I do not recognize.

There are 4 CDs for Robyn Adams (over 800 calls) – 1 of the CDs is unreadable.

I need people to listen to the WAV files and report if there is anything Casey Anthony related or if it is just “drivel.”

Casey Anthony: WOFL relays audio tapes of jail pen pal’s take on Casey Anthony
posted by halboedeker on April, 9 2010 9:22 AM
<snipped>
The friend asks if Anthony knew about the remains, and Adams replies “not completely,” WOFL reported. In the recording, Adams says that Anthony “had a feeling it was Caylee’s body,” WOFL added.

It has been a major story this week that Adams told investigators that Anthony revealed details about the remains. Authorities say Anthony shared those details with Adams before they were made public.

Another phone calls suggests not that close. Adams’ father asks: “You are not able to talk to her physically at all, right?” Adams replies no.

Could that help Anthony’s case?

“What remains unanswered is whether the FDLE knew about these dozens of recorded calls before wrapping up their investigation recently into this matter and coming to the conclusion that Adams was not trying to get a break on her own sentence,” Kealing said. “Adams’ motives in this could determine whether or not the potentially crucial information she got from Casey ever sees the light of day in Casey’s murder trial.”

Kealing promised more on the issue this afternoon. WFTV-Channel 9 also said it would offer a report on the Adams phone calls at 5 p.m.
