Defence lawyer Barrie Roux read out a summary of the athlete's mental health evaluation today, confirming that his client is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and a major depressive disorder.

The chief prosecutor in the case had previously said a panel of mental health experts concluded that the former Paralympian was not suffering from a mental illness at the time of the shooting last year.

His trial, in Pretoria, was put on hold for a month while a psychologist and three psychiatrists assessed whether the runner was capable of understanding the wrongfulness of the act.

Johannesburg - Oscar Pistorius smirked when State prosecutor Gerrie Nel said the Paralympian had “calculated reasons” for wanting to take Reeva Steenkamp to an athletics competition.

Pretoria - Murder-accused Oscar Pistorius only lost his temper twice in the eight years his agent Petrus Van Zyl worked with him, the North Gauteng High Court heard on Tuesday.

When asked if he would describe Pistorius as paranoid, Van Zyl said he was not qualified to comment.

He said he knew Pistorius as kind and courteous, not aggressive.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Oscar Pistorius was in an altercation at an upmarket nightclub over the weekend, his family said Tuesday.

Pistorius went with a cousin to a trendy Johannesburg nightclub on Saturday, where he was accosted by a man who aggressively questioned him about his murder trial, his family confirmed.

According to Mortimer, however, Pistorius was "drunk and very aggressive" and poked Mortimer in the chest, telling him how influential his family was and insisting that they "owned" South African president Jacob Zuma.

Pistorius has not said anything on Twitter since he posted a link to his website on February 14 this year - the first anniversary of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp's death.

But at 4pm yesterday part of Psalm 34:18 was posted reading: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted".

This was then followed an hour later by a montage of photos showing Pistorius, who had his lower legs amputated as a baby, with children including one of him running with a young girl who also has two carbon-fibre prosthetic legs.

“The individual, according to my client, started to aggressively interrogate him on matters relating to the trial. The trial is on a break ahead of closing arguments on Aug. 7-8, sparing Pistorius the near-daily trip to the Pretoria courthouse, where he has sometimes wept and wailed in apparent distress during testimony.

The altercation in the nightspot cannot be a factor in Pistorius' trial, said a legal analyst who has closely followed proceedings.

Oscar Pistorius' brother 'badly hurt' in car crash


"Carl's vehicle was hit head-on by another car that had swerved from the opposite side of the highway into the oncoming traffic," Arnold Pistorius said in a statement Saturday without giving details of Carl's injuries.

South African media reported that Oscar Pistorius' older brother had sustained multiple fractures and was to undergo surgery.
