Allison Jacobs tried not to cry when she was honored by her community Tuesday night.

But with an overflow City Hall crowd of friends, family and Brentwood residents applauding her, she eventually caved.

"I'm completely humbled and honored for what I feel was me just doing my job," Jacobs said after receiving a proclamation along with a Key to the City -- the second one ever presented by Brentwood.

It was a big night for the 33-year-old UC Berkeley police officer, who is credited with setting in motion the events that led to the discovery of kidnap victim Jaycee Dugard 18 years after she was abducted, and to the arrest of Dugard's captors, Phillip and Nancy Garrido.

Brentwood Mayor Bob Taylor said the Garrido case "hit America, it really hit America." Despite being in a war and other economic strife, "you don't mess with our kids."

"I think what Allison did is kind of something very remarkable," Taylor said.

Jacobs received several standing ovations from the packed crowd at the City Council chamber. She broke into smile a couple of times when catching a glance from her family.

Allison Jacobs, a UC Berkeley police officer and Brentwood resident, leaves the city council meeting carrying two proclamations, the key to the city and flowers at City Hall in Brentwood, Calif., on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009. Jacobs accepted proclamations for her part in helping solve the Jaycee Dugard case.

Oprah Winfrey, considered the queen of daytime TV, told celebrity show "The Insider" yesterday that she wants to interview kidnapping survivor Jaycee Dugard.

Explaining that she never before has been concerned about who does or does not agree to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," she said the Dugard case marked the first time she has ever called a producer to make sure they were on the story. The show, which launched in 1986, is the currently the longest running daytime talk show on television.

"I want that interview," she tells "The Insider's" Samantha Harris, stating each word slowly and emphatically.

This is the one that I want," she said.

Dugard has not been seen in public since being reunited with her mother and other family members two weeks ago at a secluded location somewhere in the Bay Area.

As part of an ongoing investigation of suspected kidnapper Phillip Garrido, Contra Costa County sheriff's detectives searched three properties in Pittsburg, Bay Point and Pleasant Hill on Wednesday that were connected to an "associate" of Garrido's, sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

Detectives seized several items, including a computer, during the investigation.

Lee was not releasing the name of the "associate," but said that he was on probation and so deputies did not need a warrant to search the properties.

The computer was taken from a property in Pleasant Hill, Lee said.

He declined to elaborate on the investigation.

Fear ripples through Garrido's hometown
September 9, 2009
<snipped>
It's been a long time since parents felt they could just let their kids wander willy nilly in most cities, but the seamy tale of Phillip Craig Garrido allegedly kidnapping Jaycee Dugard 18 years ago and penning her as a sex slave in his back yard has moms and dads a little more freaked than usual in one Bay Area community -- Brentwood.

It turns out, they've learned in the past week, that Garrido grew up in Brentwood. There are lots of nice, respectable folks in this rural outpost on the eastern edge of Contra Costa County, the moms and dads there will quickly tell you. But the fact that the most infamous suspected criminal of the moment once lived down the street -- allegedly kept his backyard prison compound a few miles down Highway 4 outside Antioch -- strikes a bit too close to home.

"We all have to be more careful."

Information is starting to surface that's painting a clearer picture of what authorities say occurred when Jaycee Dugard's nightmare began and in the first years that followed, reports CBS News Correspondent Ben Tracy.

Immediately before her life changed forever in 1991, Dugard was an 11 year old at a bus stop near her house in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., when she was dragged into a car, allegedly by Philip Garrido and his wife, Nancy.

"Once she was in the car," former San Francisco prosecutor Michael Cardoza told CBS News, "what happened was they pushed her down on the floorboards, threatened her, and then took her straight away to Antioch, Calif.," where the Garridos lived.

Cardoza says police sources tell him it was years before Jaycee was allowed off the Garridos' property. "They put her in the backyard in a tent or one of the outbuildings back there," Cardoza adds. "They left her in the backyard for three-and-a-half years before they let her get out in public."

Contra Costa sheriff's detectives on Wednesday raided properties and seized a computer from the owners of a Pittsburg auto wrecking yard that kidnap-rape suspect Phillip Garrido frequented, one of the owners said.

Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee offered few details about the morning raids, saying only that detectives conducted three probation searches, in Pittsburg, Bay Point and Pleasant Hill, in their ongoing investigation into the 1991 kidnapping and alleged rapes of Jaycee Dugard over several years.

Jaycee Dugard Tells Family: 'I'm So Happy'
Wednesday September 09, 2009 07:05 AM EDT

Jaycee's amazing story gives fresh hope to families of many of the roughly 800 children abducted by strangers and still missing, Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, tells PEOPLE.

"As outrageous and horrendous as this story is, we are absolutely convinced that there are other children out there who are still alive who have been abducted by offenders like this guy," Allen says.

Although Jaycee's recovery needs are still being assessed, she's happy and her family is, too, says Tina, who spent five days with Jaycee and other family members after Garrido's arrest.

"She said one day to me, while we were sitting: 'I'm so happy. I feel so happy.' That is a message of hope for many people."

Garrido "Associate" Says She Received Death Threat

The latest search took deputies to three properties Wednesday which the sheriff's department said were connected to associates of Garrido.

"There was no reason for them to check my home out," said Cheyvonne Molino Wednesday. "They did take my personal computer and they did say they needed to check the authenticity of the pictures of Jaycee Dugard's daughters."

Thursday afternoon, by phone, Molino said she had received an anonymous death threat to no longer talk to the media about the case. She and her husband have moved to a hotel for safety.

Police confiscated a computer and DVDs from this property and searched the couple's auto junkyard business in Pittsburg and a rental home in Bay Point.

The sheriff's department would not say what they were looking for and did not have any new details Thursday in the Garrido investigation.
