Is he suggesting that up to 12,000 people per day were crossing into Minnesota from Canada? And they need all those agents in Minnesota to secure the border.

imo
Ludicrous right?

He was just dodging the question
If this is who you send for damage control
You've missed the boat or just don't give two ---

This guy is just going to dig the hole deeper
And it may just be that is their strategy

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) relished in the fact that President Donald Trump deemed him a “loser” for calling for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
[snip]
On Wednesday, CNN’s Manu Raju informed Tillis at the Capitol.

“The president called you a loser, I believe,” Raju told the senator, who had just accused Noem and Miller of “incompetence.”

“I am thrilled about that,” he replied. “That makes me qualified to be Homeland Security secretary and senior adviser to the president.”

I think a person who felt fear in that situation had no business in a LE job.

The shooters had a job where it is important to be able to control their emotions.

If I were in the operating room while someone was having an appendix removed, I might get squeamish and pass out. That's why I'm not a surgeon.

Those shooters had no business carrying badges and guns if seeing a man with a phone and a whistle helping a bullied woman up caused them to fear for their lives. How sincerely they felt afraid is not the issue. (Trust me, my squeamishness would also be very sincere!) The issue is pros don't let stuff like that scare them.

Look at the videos from any angle. No pro should have been scared.

MOO
exactly, their fear needed to be reasonable. It is not reasonable IMO for agents to first create the conflict by physically shoving citizens and pepper spraying them, tackling them to the ground, restraining them, and then claim that same citizen was the aggressor and a danger to them because of a weapon that was never drawn or raised.

Pretti’s family confirmed it is him: https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/28/us/video/pretti-physical-clash-11-days-before-shooting-digvid

It’s neither here nor there to me - we know Alex didn’t do this the day he died, not that it would justify his death in any way.

But IMO there’s a chance that they targeted him the day he died and ended up killing him. Just like they knew who Miramar Martinez was and had her in their database before they shot her and bragged about the number of holes in her body.
It is in the BBC's coverage today, Ros Atkins at 12.40. But they are not giving it undue prominence, since, as you say, it does not justify or explain what happened to Alex Pretti.

ICE 'ends enhanced activities' in Maine, senator confirms

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has "ended its enhanced activities in the state of Maine", according to US Senator Susan Collins.

A few days ago, the Republican senator wrote to US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem asking her to pause ICE operations in Maine and Minnesota after the death of protester Alex Pretti.

Now, writing on social media, she says an end to activities in Maine has been confirmed by Noem.

"There are currently no ongoing or planned large-scale ICE operations here," Collins says.

"I appreciate the Secretary's willingness to listen to and consider my recommendations and her personal attention to the situation in Maine."

This supports the information I read from experienced Law Enforcement Officers and Weapons trainers who all say that this group is untrained, undisciplined, and unfit to be carrying lethal weapons.
Devin Stone made that very point in the video he put out the other day. There is ZERO reason that ICE needs to be armed. Just because they work under Federal authority doesn't mean that they need firearms. He equated it with the government arming every postman in the country - pointless and dangerous.

Even the FBI wasn't allowed to be armed in their early days.

BBM, this is what concerns me. IMO Agents either shot a man who was no threat in a situation they for unknown reasons escalated due to poor training or knowledge of a lack of accountability OR they recognized him from the prior incident because he was in a database of "agitators" and he was executed purposefully.

Both possibilities are equally terrifying IMO for different reasons.

Homan pledges to stay in Minneapolis until 'problem gone'

Homan begins his update by saying he's been given talking points which he will read out, as he doesn't like reading speeches but doesn't want to miss anything.

He says he was called by the president on Monday and was asked to deploy. He's been on the ground for fewer than three full days.

Homan tells journalists he will stay until the "problem is gone" and they've already made a "lot of progress".

Focus is on removing 'threats from the community', says Trump's border tsar

Homan says his task is to "regain law and order" in the city and work to "remove threats from the community".

He says President Trump has promised the American people, including Minnesota residents, that he would make their communities safe.

Homan adds that he is focused on identifying and removing immigrants that "pose a public safety threat and a national security threat".

He has met with Governor Tim Walz and local businesses and law enforcement, he says, and will continue a dialogue with each of them.

JMO IF Homan is interested in securing public safety and removing threats from the community, he can start by removing the masked band of agents who apparently have woefully inadequate training and even less accountability who are on the federal payroll and currently occupying the state of MN. JS

When you are shooting to kill, what aid? IMO
Armed officers should have training in what to do when they shoot someone.

Shooting someone is not done with the primary intention of killing them. It is to immediately halt a potentially deadly attack. It likely will but death is not the immediate intention.

Is the prior "incident" you are referring to the one <modsnip: Removed totally unnecessary snark about a victim > armed with a pistol spitting at officers and breaking the tail light on one of their vehicles?

Armed with a pistol and kicking out tali lights may well have put him on a watch list. Thinking that if I did something similar with local police, I would be on a watch list. Then factor in that he was wearing similar clothes on both incidents.

<modsnip>

I still currently doubt the over need to shoot him.... but my sympathy for him if fading fast.

Do we have a timeline of when 911 was called and by whom? I'm getting the ICE killings mixed up and have forgotten that detail.

quote from presser brought here for focus: Homan says his task is to "regain law and order" in the city and work to "remove threats from the community".

Shouldn't they be focused on threats TO the community? ICE/CBP have been acting as if everyone who looks a certain way is a probable threat when they are only possible threats. Often presumed guilty of some unnamed crime. IMO. More targeted and proportional action against proven serious criminals would be welcomed by all, but the net cast is way too wide, catching up many innocent people and many who don't pose a serious threat to the community. Again IMO.

And the quote by Homan about 12,000 illegal immigrants a day coming across the Canadian border into Minnesota is absolutely ludicrous. I think we can all agree with that. Why does the federal government tell so many obvious whoppers? It can only be to justify actions that aren't justifiable. Just like Trump's proven lie about the significant fentanyl risk coming from Canada. That lie was used to kick off the US tariff war. So my personal take on Homan's presser is that he is perpetuating lies by the federal government in order to foment fear.

fair enough. I don't agree with AP's behavior in the prior incident. damage to property and spitting are not peaceful behaviors. And yet whoever was dealing with him in that incident de escalated the situation and left him still alive.

As Websleuths we've had to come to an acceptance of the fact that there are very few perfect victims in this world. And yet, victims they remain under TOS.

I think society does victims a great disservice when it attempts to martyr them. It detracts from their actual humanity which is never perfect.

I steadfastly continue to believe this shooting was completely unjustified even as I wish AP had not engaged in the behaviors he appears to have in the incident that happened 11 days before he was IMO murdered.

My sympathy level for him hasn't changed at all, and I still wish it wouldn't have come to this.
That being said, after seeing the video of the prior incident & his violent conduct, it bothers me even more that he came back with a loaded weapon. I do believe 100% that was a terrible mistake on his part.

Well said, one can still be a victim while willingly contributing to a situation that led to being victimized.

He chose to legally arm himself , then chose to confront and provoke officers- not a good course of action with any police or law enforcement agency.

In the video, he is the only one damaging vehicles. To me, this increases the possibility that he chose to escalate things and was not acting spontaneously.

The above aside, I do agree with your point that not all victims are perfect and that a victim is a victim.

not what I said, but if that is your opinion I will not debate you on it as your opinion is yours to have.

ETA to my response as yours was edited to add more afterwards. I agree that he appears to have chosen to confront and escalate things with agents in the encounter that occurred 11 days prior to the fatal encounter that is the topic of this thread. I agree that was not a wise decision on his part. On the day of his death he did arm himself as he had on the prior incident occasion. On the day in question, IMO he did not confront and provoke agents.

Not having ID while carrying is not a major crime anyway. It doesn't mean they can take your gun away nor imprison you. It's just a $25 fine. This issue is a red herring imo.

State law says not carrying a permit is a "petty misdemeanor" subject to a fine of up to $25. Such a violation "does not constitute a crime," state law says.
And, as has been established by quoting the actual legislation, not carrying ID or your carry permit does NOT render the carry itself unlawful, regardless of how many times certain people claim that it does.

The "crime" is one of not carrying ID whilst lawfully carrying.

And, even if it did render the carry unlawful, the sentence is not one of extra-judicial execution at the side of the road!
