Meet & Greet for New Members #3

Hello all!

Have always been a silent watcher or Websleuths but thought this would be the year to join and make a difference!
Hi, and welcome to Websleuths Detective2025!
We’re happy you are here.
We are a friendly community of folks interested in true crime.
Be sure to check out the Terms of Service, aka The Rules.
They are linked at the bottom of my signature on this post. The Rules are comprehensive, but intentionally strict. Websleuths is considered the gold standard in true crime discussion forums because we don’t allow the “anything goes” approach you find on most other areas of the internet. Websleuths is FACT-BASED and VICTIM FRIENDLY, AND The Rules here uphold that.
If you have any questions about The Rules or Websleuths procedures and policies, it’s best to ask our excellent volunteer moderators. You can submit those queries to them by clicking the REPORT link at the bottom of any post. Moderators will see that and are happy to address your questions.
We think you’ll learn to love it here as much as we do!
Kind regards,
cocochanel

Hi everyone! Glad to be here to learn and participate with you sleuths. I’m a true crime and cult documentary hound, and am developing my skills in criminal profiling, forensic psychology and cult knowledge in general. I have joined at this time as I want to participate more actively and help out in any way that I can.

Welcome to Ws @Phillysuburbsleuth, you came to the right place!

Hi Phillysuburbsleuth,
Glad you found us at Websleuths!
You’ll find a number of members from your area, in addition to those from all over the globe.

There are hundreds of cases discussed on Websleuths, and thousands of members making posts.
It is a dynamic forum for sure, and you will always find something that catches your interest.
As a new member, it is a good idea to poke around and explore the different subject areas you find here. It is helpful to spend a few weeks just reading to familiarize yourself with the Websleuths “style “. There are also the Websleuths Terms of Service aka The Rules that spell out the guidelines of what can be posted. Look those over so that you can join the discussions successfully.

We think you’ll enjoy it here, and we are delighted to have you 🤗!

Good afternoon,

I joined for a particular case, but it seems like I don't have access or there is an error. I made a post about it on the members forum, so if anybody thinks they could help, let me know. Thank you.

Hi noodlecodes, and Welcome to Websleuths !!

If you give me the name of the case (either here or in a direct message), I'll have a look for you and see what's going on.

Sillybilly :)

Could you help me too? I'm trying to access the TX Unidentified Dean Corll victims thread but for some reason when I clicked on it it said "If I receive an error for a thread I am trying to access, reading " Oops! We ran into some problems. You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action."

Does this mean my account is too new, the thread is privated, or the thread is deleted? I was really hoping to access it bc it had valuable information I wanted to screenshot.

I just tried the thread and had the same message. I’m definitely not new 😄. In my experience, posts with the same message mean they’ve been deleted, so I assume the same applies to threads.

@Sillybilly, is this correct? Did the information on this thread get moved to another thread or? Thanks!

The DC case might have popped up in the news again due to recent book releases, fwiw, imo.

Hey! New member, and new (somewhat) to the true crime and web sleuthing communities. I've been a longtime fan of true crime. I love the mystery, the problem-solving aspect, and online culture in general.

I also like to make a difference with my hobbies if I can, and this feels like a way to potentially do that (eventually, once I've developed some skill and respect within the community - who knows!)

Looking forward to getting to know the community 😊

Hello Scrutineer,
Welcome to Websleuths!
You have a very clever forum name that suggests you pay close attention to details.
Good skills to have for citizen detective work!
I think you’ll find a good group here who love to discuss current crimes and delve into cold cases.
And we’re always delighted when new members join in!

A good place to start is to read over the Terms of Service (aka the Rules) we all agreed to when we signed up to be a member here. The link to Rules is a part of my signature below. These Rules are pretty important because they are a big part of why Websleuths is considered the gold standard in true crime discussion forums. They are comprehensive and detailed, but don’t let them let them intimidate you. They are pretty straightforward. As our Manager Tricia says, it all boils down to just “don’t be a jerk”.

If you do have any questions, you can ask a moderator. To reach them, just click on the bottom left of any post on the REPORT link, type out your question and then SEND. One of our awesome volunteer moderators will see it and get you an answer. It may take a day or 2, but you should hear back through a DM. Our mods are happy to help!

Hope you find a home here with us!

Kind regards,
CocoChanel

Hello everyone!

I’ve obsessively followed the Idaho 4 murder case here on Websleuths since it first broke, as if tracking each detail would somehow ensure the murderer would be caught and face justice. I teach at a college, and these students could be my own. My heart breaks every time I see a victim’s photo.

Now that I’ve finally joined the site, I can participate in the conversation as the trial approaches.

This should help preserve the sanity of my poor husband, who can binge watch a fictional series chock full of murder and mayhem but inexplicably has zero interest in true crime.

Hi, all. I've been following true crime since around 2016 and I decided to finally make an account on here. My dream job is homicide detective, though that might not be realistic. So my secondary dream job is investigative journalist. There is no bigger thrill than trying to solve decades-old serial killer cases. And also I just think this is what I was born to do. Aside from true crime, my interests are heavy metal music and horror movies. And, of course, coffee lol.

Good luck with your sleuthing and fulfilling at least one of your career goals. May all those cups of coffee help you uncover a clue or notice a connection that helps solve a neglected cold case.
