He beat the impaired charge in Canada:
"Gibson was charged with impaired driving in Toronto in 1984 when the vehicle he was diving failed to stop at a red light and struck another vehicle. An Ontario Judge later dropped the impaired driving charge fining him $300 and suspending his driving privileges in the province for 3 months.

Between this and the free passes I'm hearing he got in the States I guess he was feeling mighty invincible.
