Mel Gibson

And its interesting to see who gives him the benefit of the doubt and why.

I am not saying anyone's opinion is more accurate than anyone elses.

If you like Gibson, you feel friendly toward him, you overlook his flaws and exaggerate his positive side.

If you do not like Gibson, you do not overlook his flaws, you ignore his positive side and you exaggerate his negativity.

The whole thread IMO demonstrates this.

Very difficult to have an accurate view of anyone. To see their failings and positive characteristics without bias.
You're right- it is difficult to have an accurate view. Thanks for the post- it's right on!

"Mr. Gibson can follow the advice of Jewish leaders and begin to redeem himself by visiting sites where Jews were persecuted and making a sincere effort to understand what happened.

Mr. Gibson is an actor. That does not automatically make him a humanitarian or a saint. Even so, he has a special obligation to use his celebrity as a positive force and not as a vehicle for bigotry."

Actually it's the conservative, religious community who should lead the call for Gibson to "clean up his act", if his acts do not hold to hopefully their standards.

Just as it was up to Democrats to condemn Clinton just as wholeheartedly as anyone else for what he did.

Powerful, public officials have to be accountable or they will be called to the carpet, and their peers should lead the way in, while supporting them (if a personal problem like alcoholism), also holding them to a certain standard of behavior IMO.

They ought to, Marthatex. And they don't. It's a missed opportunity to create good will toward others.

I don't think it should be the Jews criticizing him, it should be other religious leaders as well as other public figures - Episcopalians, Methodists, Catholics, Christian scientists, whomever.

A long but excellent read:

Mirror Mirror - The Passion of Hypocrites
Snips:

Having watched the Gibson affair for a full week now and the non-stop replay of his drunken diatribe on my heritage, I honestly feel more offended by the public reaction than I do by the racist slur.
..........................................................................
Gibson is now being covered to such an extent and in such a way as to make him seem a monster, a rare creature of hate in a sea of tolerance. But the reality is far more disturbing and Gibson is hardly the monstrosity or the face of evil and hatred when one considers his chosen profession, an actor and his statements on Judaism, which are rare and far between. In fact, he appears to be far more inclined to conceal his views until he has consumed large amounts of liquor.
..............................................................................
A nation that purchases enough Ann Coulter books to put her hate products on domestic bestseller lists is not a nation that can claim outrage at a comment made by an intoxicated actor. Coulter makes a living selling hate, calls for violence, and appears on major television shows with the stamp of "news" on them.
...............................................................................
What about Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly - who advocate hate and endorse the executions for those they "Anti-American" and even traitors? Usually the traitors identified by O'Reilly and Limbaugh are liberals, defenders of the Constitution, peace activists, and non-Christians - basically calling for attacks on those who would dare to have a different political perspective?

I haven't read it all yet, but what a great sentence this is:

Oh that is good. Great article so far Maral.

How wonderful, the writer speaks with authority of her own healing process and is forgiving of Mel Gibson. She also puts some perspective into it.

All affected are in need of compassion. Some cannot let go of the holocaust. Generations of Jewish Americans are still dealing with the holocaust even now.

For those who are not able to just sit by, forgiving and forgetting, may they also have their heart- felt concerns heard and respected.

May anyone who has suffered from hate crimes due to ignorance and bias be completely healed.

May all those who find bias in their own hearts be able to put it in perspective and use the wound to become more sensitive to others.

May Mel Gibson have a little high-tech box attached to his mouth at all times that filters his words back to his publicist (who happens to be Jewish), and back it comes out to "Have a nice day, everybody"....

May Mel Gibson be able to keep his foot out of his mouth at all times when having breathalizer tests...

May Mel Gibson use his brain before speaking from now on, before he chastizes those who....HIRE HIM...." :D

Ya know, I'm thinkin'. What's real about any of us?

Who is Mel or anyone else for that matter? Is the real Mel the drunk one? Or is the real Mel the sober guy?

Is the real Mel the family guy, devout man of faith, or the one who calls the female cop "sugar 🤬🤬🤬🤬"?

Who is Mel? Who are any of us? Really?

You really want an answer wind?
Ok I'll give it to you straight :p

What we are is love, simply put.
We are a divine part of the divine whole, a member of the body.

We caused ourselves to forget who we are when coming to Earth, allowing us to choose and re-member who we are.
The act of rejoining the whole, of returning to God is called remembrance.
Our job on Earth is not to learn as such, it is to re-member who we really are.
And what we are is love, a little bit of All That Is.
For further enlightment try Conversations with God, it is my Bible and contains so much love and truth it will make you cry.
You ready ;)

Sorry everyone, but she asked :p

So that is who Mel is too!

I read that book. I really enjoyed it.

So that is who Mel is too!
I read that book, it really makes you think.

if you pass your night
and merge it with dawn
for the sake of heart
what do you think will happen

if the entire world
is covered with the blossoms
you have labored to plant
what do you think will happen

if the elixir of life
that has been hidden in the dark
fills the desert and towns
what do you think will happen

if because of
your generosity and love
a few humans find their lives
what do you think will happen

if you pour an entire jar
filled with joyous wine
on the head of those already drunk
what do you think will happen

go my friend
bestow your love
even on your enemies
if you touch their hearts
what do you think will happen

I'm wondering how long this thread will go on. A war is going on between Israel and Hezbolla and people are being killed as I write this. But, Mel Gibson and his mouth is the highlight. One thread was locked due to people getting a little carried away and guess what? Another thread was started.

My opinion is Mel screwed up. But man! Is this going to go on and on for as long as people can dig up crap on him and people jump at the chance to rip at him again? I was pretty upset with him when I first heard about it but now I just feel like "Give the guy a break."

And Idaho Mom,

If the women who were killed because they were Jewish had been Barbra Streisand and Bette Midler you can believe it would have been all over the news and here.
