:( Where is that link? I am going to it now, I DID NOT RECOGNIZE IT AS A LINK as you parsed it!

Post no. 724: embedded link per the tools on this forum.

But of course, Chris Mellas said "funny", but he meant something completely different.

No, I wrote that "funny" has two distinct meanings in English, as you surely know.

"Aviello was funny," Knox's stepfather Chris Mellas said. "Today was one of the most bizarre hearings."
Well, then Nova and I are correct. He did mean odd and not humorous!

Maybe he really didn't recognize his victim. He had the baby for 20 minutes, during which time he was riding a motorcycle and attempting to evade police. He killed the child out of panic, so it isn't such a stretch to believe he doesn't have the clearest memory of those 20 minutes.

Or maybe he was just ashamed and didn't want to talk about killing a baby.

The poor child murderer ... didn't recognize his victim after kidnapping and murdering him, sitting through a lengthy trial and knowing that the child's picture was plastered all over the news throughout the trial. He panicked and murdered a child he kidnapped out of his high chair after tying up the family? Sounds like we're ready to make him into a victim.

"sigh", "layman's terms", "not reading the post" and "it's been pointed out to you more than once" ... these are unnecessary condescending terms and phrases, are they not?

By all means, feel free to believe the testimony from lying, murderous prisoners that are spending the rest of their days behind bars. Tell me again that they are not really bad people just because they lied, robbed and murdered ... and when I refuse to adopt your opinion, you can tell me again that "It's been pointed out to you more than once" that being criminals doesn't mean they are liars. Perhaps these criminals did tell the truth when they were arrested ... because they might be honest murderers and criminals.

No one has defended the killing of a baby.

To my knowledge, no one has denied that the killer may have denied his involvement when he was arrested.

But here and now, in this case, you haven't been able to identify any incentive for him to lie. Maybe he has one, but nobody has discovered it thus far.

It's a prisoner circus that amuses Chris Mellas, and the defense has asked that the prisoner fantasies be entertained by the court. We can split hairs in an effort to distance the murderers from the prisoner circus, but no one other that the defense wants this testimony to be taken seriously.

"Bizarre" - a quick click on the link I provided would have cleared that up.

BBM: If you knew that Mellas meant "funny" as in "bizarre", why did you claim he was "amused" by the process?

Of course he is not a victim, and no one condones what he has done, but he is human, and not a demon. In any case, it does not matter. I want to know, could he be telling the truth?

High -jinx, that's why. Tried to trick us. :furious:

Chris said that the mobster was funny and the hearing was bizarre, but I'm sure we could help Chris Mellas out a bit and interpret that as the mobster was bizarre and the hearing was funny, or the mobster and the hearing were bizarre ... or maybe the mobster was funny [bizarre].

Not at all. I fully expected that everyone was checking multiple sources to ensure they were fully aware of the facts.

Check out the BBC news to hear Andrea Vogt discuss the prisoners (out of curiosity, could that be the program that Dempsey said she would be on?) ... new details released in the report: the prosecution is calling another six witnesses to refute the prisoner circus defense witnesses.

Did not know this re Judge Hellman:

Hellmann is not part of the Perugian legal establishment. He was brought in from another part of Italy after Perugia ran out of eligible judges. In fact, he's not even a criminal law judge; I think his main occupation is labor law or something of that sort.

This casts some doubt on the cynicism [. . . ] I don't see much reason for Hellmann to care about the reputation of the authorities in Perugia. For all we know, this whole case might be a laughing stock among lawyers in Turin, Milan, or Bologna, and Hellmann's reputation could just as easily be served by cleaning this mess up as opposed to covering for Mignini and Massei.

Exactly. So much for all the protestations of "serious" concern for justice for Meredith Kercher. And so much for admitting one's own mistakes, even though one is lightening-quick to condemn the mistakes of others!

I'm thinking was't_me was right: there's no way to deal with the word games except ignore them.

:waitasec: well, you did try and imply that Mellas found it humorous, but you are forgiven....:seeya::innocent:

Now, where is this all to end? what can they be thinking of? :(

Wait a second::waitasec: Or is this just the six I posted this a.m.???:waitasec:

1. Rudy Guede
2. Giacomo Benedetti (Rudy's Skype call friend)
3., 4. Two prisoners who have had contact with Aviello
5. Marco Chiacchiera (Chief of the squadra mobile)
6. Monica Napoleoni

It sounds like wishful thinking to expect that legal decisions are made based on the reputations of those trying the case - sure hope that people aren't jailed in order to make or break someone's legal career.
I have found, sadly, that this has sometimes been the case in the U.S. ....

That's most certainly what I took away from it - Mellas thinking that one of the prisoners was funny and the hearing was bizarre. Others described the day as a "circus" and it sounds like Mellas agreed.

That could be the six prosecution witnesses. Are two prosecution prisoners going to disagree with the other defense five? Is Rudy required to answer the single question of whether he told the stories to the prisoners? Can we expect another circus atmosphere in the court with Raffaele's lawyer yelling at Meredith's lawyer?
