It's interesting that in Troy Davis's case, I was one of the ones who thought that there was too much doubt for the death penalty. I believe I was in the minority in the US, except for 'minorities', of which I am not. But in this case, folks in the US are mostly on Amanda's side. My theory: a cute white college girl accused overseas has more public appeal/sympathy here in the US than a black male in the South accused of killing a police officer. In both cases, innocence was maintained by the accused. In both cases, there was questionable forensics (DNA in Knox's case; ballistics in Davis's case).

Not sure why I'm putting this out there, but it's been on my mind.

I'd have to agree with you on all counts- I am a firm believer that you better have solid evidence to sentence someone to death and our system is flawed as good as it is- so flaws in the system mean mistakes and death is a mistake that can't be corrected

I do think being a cute white American girl hurt Amanda in the press in Italy-

I don't think it's the jury's decision. I think the court probably has procedures to follow, papers to be filed, folks to review stuff, etc, that left some time. Since the jury can't leave until the verdict is read, my take is that they have offered/ordered dinner for them. I, myself, don't know if I could eat if I were them. But I don't think this 'ordering dinner' was the jury's idea. Just something to do for them while they wait. JMHO

you're right, I am sure that's it. it's not like they could teleport everyone back to court anyways.

it's just I am so anxious and I cant help but imagine how they and meredith's family feel. not knowing is terrible.

I agree. However, I don't think you were in the minority re Troy Davis. I think many felt he could be innocent and had he been a cute, little white college girl, many more would have given a darn. In other words, while the majority may have felt there was too much doubt for the death penalty, his status - black, male, etc., - made far less care to protest it, even if they thought he may be innocent.

I hope this isn't true:

As they deliberated Monday morning, Rocco Girlanda, a member of the Italian Parliament, said Knox was calm.
"She is playing and singing songs in the chapel. ... She is calm, very, very calm. She says, 'Unfortunately I have some terrible hours ahead of me, because I have to wait,' " said Girlanda, who has become an advocate for Knox.
But the lawmaker said Knox was hopeful.
"She is absolutely convinced she will fly home to the U.S. tonight," he said.

Would be terrible to get one's hopes up so high...

I think Raffaele gets overlooked as well. I found his statement last night very genuine and moving.

I am anxiously awaiting this decision. The Amanda Knox case is one of the few cases where I've never been 100% sure what to believe. There have been times when I have felt she is guilty as can be, and there have been times that I waver on that.
Unfortunately, I don't think this decision will solve my dilemma. Thanks to the Casey Anthony verdict I am painfully aware that the system doesn't always get it right.........
Regardless, I feel for both the Kercher and Knox families. What a terrible time for both.

:waitasec:

I just thought of something that y'all :innocent: MIGHT agree with me on :innocent: ...

IF Amanda is released ... it is my opinion that she will "boot" Casey Anthony out of news coverage for a while ...

And AK will probably get all sorts of "interviews ... "movie deals" ... "book deals" ...

:seeya: Bye Casey ...

Anyone ?

MOO ...

I could certainly be swayed to change my vote. :giggle:

Honestly though--after hearing Amanda's plea to the jury and listening to Megan Kelly on FOX News all morning...I'm seeing this case in a whole new light...I know I'm late to the game but better late than never.

I know her sisters absolutely believe they will be taking her home- but last I heard Amanda felt things were going well but was too afraid to get her hopes up.

This is, and has always been a convoluted case due to the diffence in legal systems and language - as well as other things. We can bet on having a lot of light shed on the case if there is an aquittal. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. I too, have wavered....

The Knox family has left the hotel and is walking together to the courthouse

that's one dark and miserable looking courtroom.

Can't decide what I think is going to happen here, but I just have this feeling it is not going to go in favor of Amanda.

I am afraid of that too, I will never trust a jury again :(
