What a lovely man Roberto is. I pray he finds the peace he needs. I was a bystander to a horrific accident over 20 years ago, and the images can haunt me even today. I can't image discovering the bodies of two children.

MOO. I can't imagine why the mother would want to go there to see where her children were killed and discarded. It might make it worse on her. Prayers for her to somehow be able to get through this.

I've been waiting to hear if and when the children have been released to their mother to be buried. It'll be hard for her to move on as it is, and that is going to be extremely difficult on her. The pain seems insurmountable.

Still so shocking to see where their father left those little ones.

I do worry about their mother having to struggle with all the feelings she must be flooded with on a daily basis. This article below says she didn't know MTC was thinking those things. JMO, it must seem like maybe their whole marriage and his feelings and his parental love was not what she thought it was. Hope she has some of her family and good friends around to help her.

its common for ppl to visit the site. it seems strange to some, but very common. there are memorials all over the interstates and freeways here that family place after a loved one dies in an accident.

True, true, I see memorials like that all the time too. The thing is... this was no accident.

All MOO, her children were killed in a very savage way by the man she thought she knew and loved. Now, it's natural that she has to deal with emotions like anger and hatred towards this man, and the absolute bewilderment as to how and why he did it.

I don't think she saw any of this coming. JMO, now she wants to believe he just snapped or it's his brain, but you and I know she will go over things in her mind constantly wondering if she could've recognized what was coming, or stopped his Q interest, or could've seen beneath his surface to stop it from happening. If it helps to go to the site they were discarded, then sure anything that helps her. Ugh, I just hope she can heal and find peace someday.

"Matthew Taylor Coleman is being held at an undisclosed federal prison after his arrest for allegedly killing his two children in Mexico -- and PEOPLE has learned that he will undergo psychological testing to determine his state of mind.

Coleman is being held in protective custody. He has been charged with two counts of foreign murder of United States nationals. A law enforcement source tells PEOPLE in its upcoming issue that the next step is for Coleman to be assessed by a psychiatrist to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.

Steve Helling is a great reporter and glad that he received confirmation from the feds that MC is awaiting assessment. I mentioned this weeks ago and that we'd know where he was being held if in State custody.

The sudden violence has shocked and saddened those who knew him, including his wife.

"Abby is devastated," a family friend tells PEOPLE in its latest issue, on stands this week. "She is confused, stunned and just destroyed inside. She never had any idea he thought all these things. She thinks he just snapped. Something must have happened in his brain."

It's unclear when the psychological assessment will be conducted -- or whether the results will be publicly released.

Coleman has not yet entered a plea. The public defender's office has not returned PEOPLE's calls for comment.

Not sure, but it seems absolutely necessary that Coleman undergo psychological evaluation before legal proceedings go any further. In some states, "no plea of guilty but mentally ill", may be accepted by the trial judge until he has examined all reports prepared pursuant to the Rules of Criminal Procedure", If that was the defense's plan or whatever the plan, Coleman needs to be evaluated first, and the sooner the better, IMO.

It appears the federal code is similar to most state evaluations. Clearly, the defendant must be competent to participate in their own defense or proceeding delayed until the defendant deemed capable.

18 U.S. Code § 4241 - Determination of mental competency to stand trial to undergo postrelease proceedings 11 So in original. Probably should be “stand trial or to undergo postrelease proceedings”.

(a)Motion To Determine Competency of Defendant.—
At any time after the commencement of a prosecution for an offense and prior to the sentencing of the defendant, or at any time after the commencement of probation or supervised release and prior to the completion of the sentence, the defendant or the attorney for the Government may file a motion for a hearing to determine the mental competency of the defendant. The court shall grant the motion, or shall order such a hearing on its own motion, if there is reasonable cause to believe that the defendant may presently be suffering from a mental disease or defect rendering him mentally incompetent to the extent that he is unable to understand the nature and consequences of the proceedings against him or to assist properly in his defense.
suitable facility—
(1)
for such a reasonable period of time, not to exceed four months, as is necessary to determine whether there is a substantial probability that in the foreseeable future he will attain the capacity to permit the proceedings to go forward; and
(2)for an additional reasonable period of time until—

his mental condition is so improved that trial may proceed, if the court finds that there is a substantial probability that within such additional period of time he will attain the capacity to permit the proceedings to go forward; or

He sounds paranoid here - not to mention, confused. The man can't trust anybody, but he does trust the twisted construct internet algorithms aggregated. Um. Okay.

I'm trying to imagine this crime happening in a world without an internet.. I can remember such a world, but...so much was so different there! I kind of hit a wall. (What did we do, does anyone remember?)

There has never been a time like this, with information coming at us from every direction every minute of every hour of every day and every night, in real time. I feel it sometimes like a wave, like an ocean of waves, pressing in, always reaching, always taking, relentless and mindless and vast...

I think I'd better get some sleep. I hate this case. Hate it.

Pre-internet... Vaguely remember this time. I think we read (books), spent time with family and friends and talked with each other (wait for it...) face to face. What a crazy time!


While there have always been conspiracy theories, hate groups, and cults, the easily accessible barrage of personally curated information as well as the ability to see that there are others who share your beliefs and interact with them, all lead to constant validation of your nonsensical convictions.
It is very difficult to pull someone back from a world where everything they believe (or WANT to believe) is being preached as gospel by people are so fanatical and firm in their righteousness, where they have made their arguments immune from facts and objectivity.

The psych eval will be very interesting and I wonder if he will be evaluated by more than one professional, especially if his defense is going for a mentally ill defense and they don't get that from the initial evaluation. If he has no history of mental illness, no one who ever suspected he was sick , that will make an insanity defense almost impossible.

I am not sure how one can parse through his arguments and the Q materials that he drew inspiration from and differentiate between what qualifies as legally mentally incompetent and the regular albeit compromised minds of those who buy into these conspiracy theories hook, line, and sinker.
Though my uncertainty is what places me where I am and not in a federal prison evaluating MC.

The insanity defense is rarely successful and I can't even think that far ahead for MC. I don't think he would ever meet the test as written.

However, it seems to me that MC is living or has been living in a very dark place, and he needs to see the light before he can face and comprehend the charges against him. He's not going anywhere. I hope he can one day apologize to his wife, family and friends, and mean it. MOO

collins mom has gone to the site a few times and he was murdered :( she has said when she was in that area prior to a searcher finding the clothes and reporting it, that she felt all of a sudden "hes not coming home". like she felt him there.
