Here's JC's attorney Michael Dezsi explaining in more detail what motions they put before Judge Matthews.
There's no law that says you have to stop someone from committing a crime so JC did nothing wrong plus the 2 high school witnesses that testified for the defense.

I think 5 to ten years was what alot of people were expecting but the judge did 10 to 15 years because she specifically said she wanted to send a message. 5 years in jail and prison and then on parole which is strict, would have sent the same message.

10 to 15 years is grandstanding almost abuse of power. Almost a way to secure her 'job security." Sounds like political slap my back I'll slap yours. Speculation only.

I think Jennifer Crumbley received a very fair sentence. The neglect of her son led to four students killed and six injured ; the trauma for everyone in the community is lifelong. She couldn't even be arsed to take her kid out of school for the day after seeing the incredibly alarming drawings that should have made both Mr. and Mrs. Crumbley bundle their kid off to one of the many large Michigan hospitals for urgently needed mental health help. She and her husband also went on the lam when they knew police were looking for them and ended up suspiciously close to the US/Canada border.

I have zero sympathy for either parent. You reap what you sow. I do feel badly for Ethan, I don't think he ever had much of a chance to thrive.

Jennifer Crumbley's lawyer argued she is not a flight risk and poses no danger.

Prosecutors responded by saying that Crumbley received a fair trial and she should continue serving her prison sentence. The Crumbleys are the first parents to be convicted for a mass shooting committed by their child.

Hopefully this link works - I didn't have any luck last time!
From the link -

The attorney said the prosecution also agreed to let journalists from ABC News and the Washington Post observe their trial preparations. The documentary aired on Hulu after the trials had ended.

Dezsi alleges the outlets were “hand-picked” to ensure “a skewed story, manufactured to rally support in placing the blame for school shootings on parents.”

“Mrs. Crumbley was behind the 8-ball before her original trial even began,” said Dezsi. “The court made it very clear that both the prosecution and defense were prohibited from engaging with media in any way that would encourage pre-trial publicity. The prosecution ignored that order and not only contacted select media but also enlisted public relations firms to push their agenda.”

The four-page deal was not shared with Jennifer Crumbley's lawyer before her 2024 trial.

Crumbley's appellate attorney argued Friday that the failure to produce the agreement was a fundamental violation of rules that prosecutors must follow

At the very least, I hope she gets a new trial and has qualified defense representation. The attorney representing her now, on appeal, seems to know what he is doing and is doing a good job within the law. I hope he will represent JC at a new trial, if ordered by the judge who is hearing the appeal.

I am still pissed that the judge only gave her sentence based on sending a message.

She said:

"She was doing 10 to 15 years because she wanted to send a message."

The maximum should never have been higher than 5 to 10 and preferably to time served.

The father of the Oxford High School shooter, now serving a 10-15-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter, has filed a motion requesting a new trial, in part because of agreements made with two Oxford school officials that were not given to his defense attorney.

In a 52-page motion filed Friday in Oakland Circuit Court, James Crumbley also argues that he deserves a new trial because of the court's failure to properly handle the shooter's assertion of his Fifth Amendment rights.

Crumbley, who was convicted last year of four counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with his son Ethan's mass shooting at Oxford High School, has asked Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Matthews to grant him a hearing to see if his attorney was ineffective and for a new trial...

The mother of the Oxford High School shooter is asking a judge to remove and disqualify the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office from her case because she allegedly "cannot be trusted."

Jennifer Crumbley's attorney, Michael Dezsi, said Prosecutor Karen McDonald has "violated the Court Rules, entered into secret agreements with two star prosecution witnesses, and has unethically engaged two public relations firms to run a smear campaign against the Crumbleys in an effort to sway public opinion and taint the jury pool.

"At this point, the prosecution has lost all credibility by misrepresenting and denying the obvious truths," Dezsi wrote in a filing made Wednesday morning. "Given the prosecution's penchant for obfuscating the truth, the Court should conclude that the Prosecutor's motives, both troubling and unethical, should compel this Court to remove her and her entire office from further prosecutions on this case."...

Oakland County prosecutors are seeking sanctions against Jennifer Crumbley's appellate attorney after he filed what they called a "meritless" and "improper" motion Wednesday to disqualify prosecutors from Crumbley's case.

Crumbley, the mother of Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley, filed a motion Wednesday asking Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Matthews to remove and disqualify the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office from her case because Prosecutor Karen McDonald allegedly "cannot be trusted."

Assistant Prosecutor Marc Keast filed a response to the motion Thursday, noting the only motivation for the request is to generate headlines and divert attention away from Crumbley's actions. Keast noted that everything mentioned in the motion has already been brought up or rejected as irrelevant by the court...

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A judge has denied a motion seeking to remove and disqualify Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald from Jennifer Crumbley’s case.

Oakland County Judge Cheryl Matthews denied the request to remove the prosecutor and appoint a special prosecutor because “it lacks jurisdiction to decide the Motion and defers to the appellate court’s jurisdiction.”...

A judge has denied Jennifer Crumbley's request to remove Oakland County prosecutors from her case, in part because she does not have jurisdiction to rule on it, and will issue sanctions to Crumbley's attorneys for filing a frivolous motion...

McDonald called these claims "meritless" and said the request was improper. She said the only motivation for the request is to generate headlines and divert attention away from Crumbley's actions...
