Pontiac — An Oakland County judge has again asserted that she believes prosecutors improperly failed to disclose agreements made with two Oxford High School officials shortly after a 2021 mass shooting, but she has not made a decision on what that means for the shooter's parents.

Both James and Jennifer Crumbley, parents of Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley, this year filed requests for a new trial or for a dismissal of their convictions on four counts of involuntary manslaughter...

...This hearing comes after Crumbley’s appellate attorney, Alona Sharon, filed a motion requesting a new trial due to the alleged discovery violations with the proffer agreements that were made between the prosecution and two school employees and the shooter’s right to assert the Fifth Amendment...

They should get a new trial with new prosecutor and new judge. That should be the remedy. If they don't get a new trial, their attorneys should appeal the decision.

A new play by Detroit Public Theatre is tackling school shooting trauma head-on and stars a student from Oxford, which lost four teenagers to a mass shooter in 2021. Emily Kaczmarek’s “Soft Target” makes its world premiere on April 30 at the theater, where it will run until June 8.

The play centers around 9-year-old Amanda, whose “Toy Story”-esque stuffed animal friends — played by adults — notice she’s acting strangely and are trying to understand why. As the play unfolds, you learn Amanda has witnessed a school shooting and is trying to process the trauma through her toys...

A three-judge panel of the Michigan Court of Appeals on Tuesday denied the Oxford High School shooter's requests to withdraw his guilty plea or be resentenced after an Oakland County judge declined to do both.

In a brief order issued Tuesday, Court of Appeals Presiding Judge Randy Wallace wrote that the requests were denied for a "lack of merit in the grounds presented." No other explanation was given by the panel that included Court of Appeals judges Sima Patel and Thomas C. Cameron...

...In the Court of Appeal’s 41-page answer to the application, officials said trial counsel was not ineffective for not pursuing a defense “that was not supported by the facts or the law,” and that such things “would not have made a difference in the defendant’s sentencing.” The response argues that a “diminished capacity defence” is contrary to the shooter’s sworn testimony and that he can’t document “deficient performance.”

It goes on to say that the defense speculated that the shooter may have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, but added that a diagnosis doesn’t bar a life sentence and that it doesn’t even bar the death penalty and that nothing brought up in the application “would have made any difference in his sentence.”...

Clarkston — It was a moment Keegan Gregory wanted but at many points in the last three years seemed unreachable.

On Thursday, Keegan joined more than 410 classmates and graduated from Oxford High School in a commencement ceremony for the class of 2025 at Pine Knob in Clarkston.

Wearing a navy blue Oxford cap and gown, and three cords around his neck — lavender for Hana St. Juliana, 14, who was slain in the attack at the high school in 2021 and would have graduated this year; orange for gun violence survivors; and blue-and-yellow for the school colors — Keegan walked across the stage and collected his diploma.

His parents, Chad and Meghan Gregory; his four younger siblings, Piper, Peyton, Bentley and Sawyer; as well as grandparents and uncles, watched from their seats as Keegan crossed the stage, shook hands, returned hugs and walked away with a diploma in hand...

OXFORD, Mich. – It has been more than three years since the Oxford High School shooting, during which the killer and his parents were convicted in the tragic event.

Now, the community is focusing on a garden built to honor the victims at Seymour Lake Park in Oxford.

Hana St. Juliana should have graduated from Oxford High School last week. Instead of preparing for a graduation party, her family is gearing up for the grand opening of Hana’s Garden...

The Michigan Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to hear arguments in the case against Oxford Community Schools and its legal responsibility leading up to a 2021 mass shooting.

The decision means the families of seven students who filed the civil cases have now reached the effective end of their appeal attempts, as a federal judge ruled last week that those cases also cannot proceed...

Jennifer Crumbley's attorney has filed a complaint claiming the Oakland County Circuit Court is delaying her right to appeal her conviction by not deciding on her motions for an acquittal, new trial or request for a bond in the required time.

Attorney Michael Dezsi's filing Saturday with the Michigan Court of Appeals says the delay "constitutes a denial of Crumbley’s right to Due Process and, more importantly, denies her right to bond pending appeal ... ."

To remedy the "injustice," Dezsi asks the appeals court to order the judge to make an immediate decision on the motions...

There are symbols delicately placed throughout Hana’s Garden in Oxford Township’s Seymour Lake Park to memorialize the four students killed in a shooting at Oxford High School in November 2021.

There are blueberry bushes for 16-year-old Tate Myre to symbolize his giving nature, butterfly figurines for 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin, bushes to feed pollinators for 17-year-old Justin Shilling.

For Hana St. Juliana, 14, there are flowers since that is what her name means in Japanese. Many are purple, her favorite color. Winding crushed stone paths, shaded benches, and trickling waters offer visitors a peaceful place to reflect, heal, and honor the four students...

An Oakland County judge has fined Jennifer Crumbley's appeals attorney more than $1,600 for filing what she called an improper and redundant motion to disqualify the Oakland County prosecutor from Crumbley's case.

Judge Cheryl Matthews ruled in April that the motion was filed for an improper purpose because she did not have the jurisdiction to decide on it, and it duplicated a previous motion, making it unnecessary and redundant. She did not give a sanctions amount in April, but waited until Monday to do so...

The father of one of four students killed in the 2021 Oxford High School shooting told the Oxford school board to "shove" their offer of $500,000 for his daughter's death after he said he was given less than 20 hours to consider and accept the settlement.

Steve St. Juliana spoke directly to the Oxford Community Schools Board of Education and its superintendent Tuesday night during a public comment portion of the board's regular meeting.

During the meeting, St. Juliana said he was sent an email at 1:38 p.m. on Tuesday with a final offer of half a million dollars to settle a lawsuit he filed in the death of his 14-year-old daughter Hana, who was shot and killed inside Oxford High School on Nov. 30, 2021...

OXFORD, Mich. – Jennifer and James Crumbley, the parents of the Oxford High School shooter, will not receive new trials, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Oakland County Judge Cheryl Matthews denied their requests for new trials on Wednesday, June 11, 2025...

An Oakland County judge has denied the parents of the Oxford High School shooter a chance at a new trials, despite finding that prosecutors willfully failed to provide evidence to the parents' defense attorneys.

Judge Cheryl Matthews issued her decision Wednesday, more than five months after hearing oral arguments about whether a new trial or acquittal was warranted for Jennifer Crumbley and two months after hearing arguments from James Crumbley.

Defense arguments centered on the importance of so-called proffer agreements that witnesses signed during initial meetings with prosecutors. The agreements indicated that any statements witnesses made at those meetings could not be used to prove their guilt...

I wonder if they will appeal her decision.

There was a very brief mention on Channel 4 (WDIV) news at 6:00PM last evening that Jennifer Crumbley was again denied bond and will remain in prison. There is nothing about the update on the WDIV website, but I found this report from last Friday indicating that the Michigan Supreme Court denied bond and that Ms. Crumbley will remain in prison.
