Apparently an “Open murder”charge means the prosecutors are leaving it up to the jury to decide whether to charge with first or second-degree murder or a combination of the two.

Some more info on this sad case:
-On July 22, MSP troopers were called to the MyMichigan Hospital after a dead two-year-old female child was brought in. It was determined that the child lived in Alcona County and a suspect was identified. (suspected beating death)
-Aaron Trout, 31, was arrested for one count of homicide-felony murder and was arraigned on July 25. He was denied bond. LE have not confirmed the relationship between Trout, Pavelka and the little girl, however he was not her bio-father.
-On July 26 or 27 a second arrest was made, bio-mother Adrienne Renee Pavelka, 22, was arrested and charged with open murder. She was denied bond.
-Trout's next scheduled court date is on August 3 at 10 a.m.
-Trout has a prior history of criminal assault, resisting police, failing to appear in court, and substance abuse.

Wondering if one of those two might hang it on the other. As long as they are shut in for life, I don't care.
Two other children. SMH. Hoping they are truly in a good place. Thank goodness they were apparently found fairly quickly.
Were drugs involved? D'oh. He looks wa-a-a-ay meth-y. No excuses.

Was the little girl crying too loudly? Hungry? Hurt? Sometimes that's all it takes to set someone off.
Glad they're behind bars. Grrrrrrrrrr.

A wispy-haired little girl who loved Mickey Mouse and fist bumps would have turned 3 in December, had her life not been cut short by an act of violence in Alcona County two weeks ago.

With proud-father enthusiasm, McDonnell gushed about his daughter’s sweetness and intelligence, sharing stories of infant accomplishments and toddler affections.

Fond of car rides and fidget toys, Jayde enjoyed all the loves of little girls, from cartoons “Paw Patrol” and “Bluey” to popular children’s songs, he said.

“She loved ‘Baby Shark,'” McDonnell said. “I think that’s because I hated it.”

Jayde was the spitting image of her dad, he said, both in looks and in temperament, either super-serious or all-out funny, words running in a jumble as she talked a mile a minute.

The rambunctious youngster liked to give fist bumps with a hearty, “Boo-yah!” McDonnell said, his voice affectionate, then tight with emotion.

I pray Jayde's little sisters are safe and being loved. Thankful that they are very young young and hopeful that they won't have lasting memories of any violence they may have seen perpetrated against their sissy

Before receiving his sentence Trout was given an opportunity to speak before Judge Laura Frawley and the court.

In his speech, Trout continued to insist that he was innocent of Jayde McDonnell’s murder and, despite his conviction, he knows he is a good person.

Adrienne Pavelka pleaded guilty last Tuesday to child abuse in the first degree in a case involving the death of her daughter, Jayde McDonnell.

Pavelka was originally charged by Alcona County Prosecutor Tom Weichel with one count of homicide-felony murder and two counts of child abuse in the first degree. The other two counts are set to be dismissed, according to a representative of 23rd Circuit Court in Harrisville.

Weichel’s office alleged Pavelka failed to protect her daughter from a known threat in Aaron Trout, Pavelka’s boyfriend at the time, and for failing to get medical help for McDonnell while the toddler suffered for several days with traumatic brain injuries before she died.
