Morton, who was the spokesperson for the family, gave a statement Wednesday night about the case and where everything stood at this time.

Morton said the family met with Roseville and Warren police departments Wednesday night a little after 7:30 p.m.

“What they indicated was there was substantial evidence collected at the home of the ex-boyfriend and they also indicated that based upon that evidence that Ashley was murdered. They don’t have her body at this time. They do have good leads where her body is. They also indicated that the boyfriend is in custody on related charges not for murder at this time. A warrant is being prepared, but he will be arraigned in the morning at Roseville District Court at 10 a.m.”

Ashley Elkins' ex-boyfriend charged with lying to police

Snipped: During the arraignment, prosecutors noted that if Elkins is still alive, they would be concerned for her safety if Booker were to be released on bond. He was given a $250,000 cash/surety bond

Snipped: According to prosecutors, Booker fled his Macomb County home and went to Flint, where he allegedly searched for the quickest routes from Flint to Ohio, as well as what to do while on the run and if blood is traceable

Snipped: Booker previously served in the United States Army but was removed from the military with a less than honorable discharge after going AWOL. This happened after he was charged with several crimes while serving, including larceny and possessing fake identification documents

Long article going over what we know etc.

On Dec. 31, 2024, just days before Ashley disappeared, her ex-boyfriend booked an appointment at her home salon using a different name, according to family members
“He knocked on the front door, and I guess she saw that it was him,” Ashley’s mother, Monika Elkins said.
He also knocked on the side door of the home as Ashley told everyone in the house to be quiet.
After that, he left

2 days later she went missing.

While in Flint, Booker is accused of planning to leave Michigan by looking up routes out of state.

His research also included what to do while on the run, as well as how to beat a polygraph test, and if blood is traceable, the prosecution said.

Additionally, he allegedly looked up how to delete his Google search history.

“This violent act was premeditated. We will seek to enhance the charges once we get there, to exactly that, premeditated,” Berlin said.

Berlin says they plan to expand the search of an undisclosed location that they’re hoping will secure additional evidence, so they can pin additional charges on Booker if that's where the evidence leads them.

The couple broke up in September after dating about a year.

“A friend of hers said she felt like somebody was always following her in her car” since then, Monika Elkins said.

While they were together, Ashley Elkins at one point moved her hair-style business to a building on Eight Mile Road because Booker was jealous about men going to her home for appointments, Monika Elkins said.

FOX 2 learned through sources in Macomb County that the search for Elkins turned to the Lenox Township landfill on Monday, more than ten days after she was last heard from.

The sources said police spent the weekend preparing to search the landfill on Monday in hopes of finding her body.

Roseville police have not confirmed on the record that they are searching for Elkins' body at the landfill. However, police seized a dumpster at her ex-boyfriend's apartment during their evidence search last week.

  • LE is searching the Pine Tree landfill in Macomb County's Lenox Township.
  • They had 40 or 50 officers searching according to Police Chief Berlin.
  • This is the same landfill they searched in 2022 for Zion Foster's remains, although they didn't find her.
They’re focusing on a 6.5-acre plot at the 377-acre landfill ...

We have a good idea of where our target is,” said Chief Mitch Berlin of the Roseville Police Department. We’ll be back tomorrow. ...

Lenox Township is north of Roseville along I-94, which, further north, leads to the Blue Water Bridge border crossing into Canada. Interestingly enough, just a few miles short of the border is the junction with I-69, which heads westward from Port Huron towards Flint.

It is known that the suspect first went to Flint before planning to continue down to Ohio. Is it possible that he had intended to flee to Canada after dumping the body, but realized it would possibly not go well for him, and decided at the last minute to divert to Flint instead?

I've made the drive from Roseville to the Blue Water Bridge myself not long ago, and it was barely half an hour from what I recall.

The search is “moving in the right direction," said Berlin, speaking to media shortly after the search wrapped for the day around 4 p.m. Monday. "...“We’re confident that we’ll find the evidence we’re looking for.”

Berlin said they focused on the Lenox Township landfill because “we traced (our evidence) from Roseville all the way here, and then worked with engineers and Waste Management surveyors to pinpoint an approximate six, seven-acre parcel where evidence would be located.”

"I knew it from Day 1," said Ashley's mother, Monika Elkins. "When I got to her house, it was 8:40. She left at 8:30. I went into the house for a minute, came back out. I texted her. I had a dream of her car being stolen. And she replied back, 'Aw, man," which was weird to me. So I FaceTimed her. She didn't answer. So I said to her just be mindful about your surroundings, pay attention to where you're going and she didn't call back. That's not like her. And she never called back, she never text back. Ever."

Elkins went on to say she believes the "Aw, man' response came from Booker, not her daughter.

One of the items investigators hauled away was a dumpster. It’s one key piece of evidence that led investigators to the landfill, reports Scripps News Detroit.

“This violent act was premeditated. We will seek to enhance the charges once we get there, to exactly that, premeditated,” Berlin previously said

Sources tell us police spent the weekend preparing for today’s dig. They had to remove tons of dirt and cover soil to start excavating a certain area where they hope to recover Elkins’ body

“The family is obviously very devastated. We’re happy to hear about an arrest. But tonight, we met with Roseville and Warren police departments and they indicated to us that based on the evidence that Ashley had been murdered and by the ex-boyfriend at his home, that this likely occurred late (last) Thursday, early Friday,” Elkins’ uncle Maurice Morton told us Wednesday night. “Hearing that is devastating.”
