MI - Calista Springer, 16, chained to bed, dies in fire, Centreville, 27 Feb 2008

We can only hope that when it comes to the sentencing, the judge will be more intelligent than the jurors. These people should have been convicted of murder, plain and simple, based on a totality of the evidence.

CPS has once again turned out to be a total failure. Had they done their jobs during any one of the many opportunities afforded them, this child would still be alive today.

I believe her paternal grandmother is going to file against CPS. Grandma was supposed to be a prosecution witness but she talked to the media, thus tainting her testimony.

I'm betting they get much more than community service.
This is what's possible: "The Springers face up to life in prison for torture and up to 15 years in prison for child abuse. The trial began Jan. 26 in Kalamazoo and it took jurors nine days of deliberations before they arrived at a verdict just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday."

Calista's trial is on TruTV now. I believe it runs for about two weeks up until the sentencing date for the 'parents' April 15 or 16.

You're correct - I'm watching it while healing a broken ankle. What I've seen so far I would convict them in a heartbeat for murder. To hear they were convicted of torture and child abuse is just insane. Everytime I see the chains and hear the stories I just want to reach out and smack those stupid grinning so called parents.

Calista needed love, understanding, and patience -- she didn't need the horror of torture and death.

Rest in peace sweet one.

The father's attorney requested 16 years.
"Dad" is speaking. He's taking some blame, but is blaming the schools, media and political aspirations of people involved.
