I wonder how many of AB's charges are on heh rez and how many are off the rez.

Drugs do cause apathy in long time users, but no amount of drugs could cause a mother to ignore the obvious abuse in front of her eyes.
Certain situations aren't even acceptable to those seeing through a haze of drugs
Some went from the mother being a victim and no one is allowed to say otherwise, but we should instead blame every other family member even though the mother rarely had contact with her son.
Who was in the best position to see and hear what was going on in the home?

I'll answer....the mother of the child.

IMO

As a recovering alcoholic myself, we'll have to agree to disagree. An addict will toss ALL caution aside, even the risk of their own loved ones for their drug of choice. Alcohol, pot, etc.

Someone made a choice of drugs and or alcohol over the safety of this child and it cost him his life. I hope that apathy among those with substance abuse issues within this tribe don't cause Carnel's murder to be in vain. Because denying that substance abuse played a part in the inability to protect him will ensure other children in similiar situations are at continued risk.

Hadn't seen this before.

Monday morning Bennett was brought in to police authorities under a different arrest warrant. There were pictures taken and he reportedly had scratches on his arms. Bennett is considered a person of interest in the case and is in police custody according to sources.

Do you think there would have been enough evidence (at the time) to remove Carnel from the home of JC and AB?
Keeping in mind that the abuse was within a time period of one to two weeks.

IMO

BBM. Where do you get one to two weeks in the time line of which Carnel was subject to abuse?

We know from MSM, his own mothers words were she was in a relationship with AB for 7 mo's. We know from someone alleging to be an uncle of Carnel's, posting in media comments and on FB, he was living with his mother and her felon bf for appx a month. We know AB spent 15 days in jail in May. Even if the 15 days were the last 15 of May, that is still 3 weeks of June that Carnel resided with his mother and his mothers felon boyfriend. So not sure where you are getting this 1-2 weeks. The math doesn't work for me.

More background on AB.

"Bennett spent time at a secure detention facility in Midland for assaulting a child and stabbing his sister, according to testimony from the Department of Human Services in probate court."

I would quote more but it is a short article.

I think she has edited, there is a lot more. Really, really bad past and this guy is only 20. They need to put him away in a cage forever, he is not fit to be with humans or animals.

Question for anyone, is there a pic/pics with this article? I never have the whole page at this site, must be my settings.

According to what Jaimie told the FBI, the physical abuse of her son had been going on for about 2 weeks. She said there were a few incidents, and she described two of them. So I guess it was going on for about 2 to 3 weeks.

ETA:

CHAMBERLAIN: Yes. Yes, I recently just -- I recently noticed this about - - it was about a week ago when I noticed the bruises on his butt.

She had left Carnel in her boyfriend’s care, and told WWJ Newsradio 950 that she became suspicious when he didn’t join her as she frantically searched for the child.

“And it sunk in and I was like, ‘Where is he at?’ I ended up like searching everywhere … I went in the bathrooms, I went in all the bedrooms, I looked in all the closets, I looked in all my cabinets, I looked in my refrigerator and after that I went outside and looked in the back yard,” said Chamberlain, adding that it seemed her boyfriend might be “hiding something.”

We may well have to agree to disagree on the subject of drugs.I stand by my post, but will post my belief on users of drugs.
Not everyone who partakes is an addict. Some can use everyday/all day for many yrs. and still be able to refrain if they so desire.
Some use drugs or drink because they enjoy it....it is as simple as that.
Most are still able to understand what is correct behaviour and when behavior is harmful.
Some folks do get addicted, but it depends on the drug of choice and the person.
Some people are just flat out mean and uncaring and drugs or drink have little to do with the way they are or what they do.
As mentioned in my earlier posts, drugs do cause apathy in long term users, but not to the extent that a loved one could overlook a child being beaten. IMO

The mother had said the abuse happened within a few weeks time period.

My coworker is a retired 30 year Sherriff from Mount Pleasant. He has worked on the rez for the past 20 years. He is very familar with the Bennett and Chamberlain families -- not good.

I asked him if the construction worker smelled burnt flesh coming out of the chimney, then why didn't the tribal police smell it in the house a few hours later? He said that the BIA refused to allow the Tribal Police or FBI enter the home for several days. They would not give them a warrant. He has a friend who was in charge of one of the hounds and they knew on day one that Carnel was either in the house or under it. The hound kept sniffing around the porch. The BIA told them to extend the search and that they were not permitted in or around the house. The hound kept going back to the house.

The Aunt had said in an interview that the hounds kept going back to the house and she couldn't understand why no one was paying attention to them.

So this is BIA Housing where she lived, rather than privately owned? TIA It surprises me because I have seen incidents, not murder though, in BIA Housing and Tribal Police handled it instead of BIA.

But grandma did not know about the split lip and the bruises. Only mom know about those. Grandma did not have the current evidence of the abuse by AB. Only mom knew about the abuse. It was up to mom to save her child.

I'll bet Grandma was just waiting for mom to get tired of 'babysitting' and drop the boy back home with Grandma. How was Grandma supposed to know about their new 'training' program? As far as Grandma knew, Mom was angry with her over the argument about the missing ATV so she was just waiting it out.

The only drug usage that Grandma was probably aware of was the weed. Would that haver been enough to get custody of the boy from his mother? I highly doubt it. And if Grandma tried something like that and failed, she would have been cut off forever. And mom would have probably moved further away and out of reach.

Grandma was stuck, imo. But if she had known about the punch in the face and the neck grab, she would have done something about it, unlike Mom, who proudly took credit for it, on national television.

BCUBBM. (bolded colored unbold by me) .

I've been in recovery groups with addicts where CPS DID step in and take the child/ren away because mom and moms live in boyfriend were using, yes, "just weed".

CPS required urine drops. These were not criminal cases or probation or parole. They were CPS reported drug use, when family wasn't too afraid to report.

In fact, I told one guy straight to his face. Go ahead use your weed. No one can force you not too, but you need to make a choice between your girlfriend and her children, or your weed. He never showed up again. Guess he chose the weed.

I am a recovering voice for Carnel. Calling someone out on their excuses is part of recovery. It is not slamming. It is not a violation of TOS. It is calling out and speaking about what went wrong in THIS case so it does not happen to another child.

The Bureua of Indian Affairs -- they dictate what goes on with the Tribes. They are not the good guys.
