Anthony Bennett indicted by federal grand jury for assaulting Carnel Chamberlain

"...the indictment filed Wednesday replaces a temporary assault charge that has kept him in jail since late June"

Thanks for the link. I'm guessing no murder charges yet? I've been away from this thread and trying to catch up.

Assault versus child abuse? Is there a difference when it comes to sentencing or is it the same thing?

Maybe it's just me but assault sounds like it was a one time thing and we know he physically abused Carnel at least 3 times, if not more according to JC.

From the article southernnana attached, AB's lawyer states there is no proof Carnel was ever treated after the assault allegations by JC.

Even with gossip aside, the fact that she admitted watching while this monster brutalized her baby puts her at risk and I find it hard to fault people for their anger.

However vigilante justice=bad thing.

Even with REZ gossip aside...condoning violence is non-productive. To condone harm on someone is to condone AB's behavior. IMHO

Vigilante justice=unacceptable

If they let him out because there is no one else to back up JC's allegations, he is going to run. PLEASE LORD keep him in prison. Yet another reason why JC should have told someone.

JC, I agree, vigilantism is not the way to go.

I haven't been here much lately. This makes me very sad for Carnel he deserves our best, our devotion to him, for us to be his voice. He's getting lost all over again.

I feel as though this thread has been hijacked for something other than Carnel.

They did not allow him to bond, I'm 100% confident he's staying put.

IMO, they are holding him on this charge to buy time for the forensic results to come back and to build their case. Not sure if the abuse charges can be rolled into the murder charge, but rest easy ToosieJoie. The judge and federal prosecutor know exactly what kind of person they are dealing with in AB. His record (history) speaks volumes.

Defense said the assault case is not strong because it is only based on the statements of Jaimee Chamberlain ... there are no police reports.

Bennett will appear in court on Monday.

She admitted on NG program - national television and in an interview with the FBI, watching and knowing about the abuse.

I would imagine Carnel's remains are at Quantico; if anything can be determined, it will be in those labs.

As stated before, the assault charge will become a 'lesser included offense', if and when murder can be charged. IF the murder charge doesn't stick then AB will be out in a few years, someone will gun him down and everyone will be 'happy'.

There are many variables in the cicumstances surrounding Carnel's death, should only some of them have focus placed on them? Justice for Carnel is determined by ALL of the mitigating factors. AB is in jail, for now, let's hope it stays that way.

As for being the voice for a dead child, here is a thread about a 2 year old American Indian child who was not only murdered, on July 3, 2012, but her body was wrapped in a blanket and hid in a closet. Her siblings, 11-6 years old, were inviting their friends to come over to 'see their dead sister' while the mother was high on meth. Where is the voice for this little girl?

A grand jury indictment on Wednesday resulted in a hearing for that day being postponed for AB. The charge is assaulting Carnel Chamberlain resulting in great bodily harm to a child under 16.

An arraignment is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012.

A federal grand jury on Wednesday, however, indicted Bennett on the charge, and as a result, his scheduled hearing was changed to an arraignment.

The arraignment is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday before Binder.
U.S. federal court records show that Bennett faces a pending charge of assault within maritime and/or territorial jurisdiction. No further information regarding that charge was available.

The charge on which Bennett was indicted carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Jacie, I read this article 2 hours ago and had to turn my computer off. I can't believe this. It just seems that so many don't value the life of a child. And to bring young friends over "to look at my dead sister" is sadistic. OMG

It is a very sad story. Her picture is now in my sig, next to Carnel. Look at her beautiful face. :sigh: There is a Lakota word waste, pronounced washtay, that means good or beautiful, to describe the death of RieLee, I prefer the English word waste. Her death is senseless, a waste of a young life. .

Ahh. And yet JC condoned the abuse heaped upon her own child by AB.

That is what is unacceptable.

And I did not say it was acceptable for people to kick her complicit a**. I said I TOTALLY understand why they would want to. Heck, I want to. But I know right from wrong, unlike that so called mother.

Reasonable people don't resort to violence or sit back and watch while other people are brutalized. Like Jaimee did. To her helpless sweet baby boy.

Poor Carnel.

What a beautiful baby girl. Now Carnel has someone to keep him company.

I have to agree with those who say murder charges are pending a full autopsy, probably at Quantico. His sad little bones will tell the story as welll as the evidence of fire in the home wood stove. I'm sure the ashes are being carefully processed as well.

Patience is the most difficult thing to have in these cases.

RIP Carnel. You are with the other young souls and your ancestors, being welcomed home.

I can't imagine that toxicology is going to give them their answer as to how Carnel died, JMO.

If they cannot determine his cause of death, will they be able to charge anyone? Will they be able to prove he did not crawl in there on his own?
